Thank you for making this video. It's very well done. I'm doing this trip in two days and didn't know much about what to expect aside from the Subway itself. You deserve 1,000x as many views.

I'm assuming with having to repel three times, this is a hike you cannot do by yourself? legit question.
@LiveThatAdventure
@LiveThatAdventure 2 года назад
We did 4 rappels. You do need a permit and I wouldn't recommend attempting it unless you at least have someone in your group with a lot of canyoneering experience.

would a dry suit be better than a wet suit or just make things more complicated?
@LiveThatAdventure
@LiveThatAdventure 2 года назад
Dry suits are nice to protect you from the cold. There are only 2 problems with them. Canyoneering is really hard on your gear and a small hole in a dry suit ruins it. The other problem is that dry suits can be crazy expensive.

@LiveThatAdventure 2 года назад
Hey Rododlfo! You do need a permit of you go the way that we went. You can hike up from the bottom without a permit though. The way we went is a little more dangerous than the regular hike in.

The permit is only needed for the canyoneering route. You can do the bottom up hike with no permit👍

I'm not a fan of permits either but I do understand their reasoning. It's a beautiful place so the limit it to 50 visitors a day so it doesn't turn into a zoo. And it can be dangerous so with the permit system in place, if something happens, the park service will have an idea of who hasn't made it out.

My wife and I have done the Subway bottom up route 3 times and want to do the top down. I understand a permit is needed and no “commercial” tours allowed but if we don’t own gear do we just need to know somebody to guide us?
@LiveThatAdventure
@LiveThatAdventure 2 года назад
Technically yes. But this is a semi technical canyon. We strongly recommend having either canyoneering training or experience. We want to see you stay safe out there. 😁👍

the death you referenced at about 10:15 did NOT occur at Keyhole Falls where you mentioned it. That accident occurred at the final, exit rappel, though not off the bolts that you used. There was webbing on a log 20 feet upstream from where you rapped, which left them rappelling in the water course, which precipitated the unfortunate accident.
@LiveThatAdventure
@LiveThatAdventure 3 года назад
Thanks for the correction! Some of the research we found mentioned Keyhole Falls as the site of the accident. Either way, it is meant to warn people about the danger of this hike and not to take it casually. We definitely appreciated the corrected info! Have a wonderful day.
@GaryLArnell
@GaryLArnell 7 месяцев назад
@@LiveThatAdventure , @rickthompson2739 is correct. I think some news outlets got confused because the couple had completed Keyhole Canyon in preparation for Subway and there is a separate Keyhole *Falls* in the Subway, which you point out at the 10:00 mark.

One of my favorite hikes I've ever done. My brother and I did it when we were broke and stupid, so we nearly got lost before the canyon section and didn't have any gear except a rope that was barely long enough. I was also delighted to find a HUGE, bloated, white dead rat floating in one of the swimmers after I had swum around in it for 15 minutes looking for my sunglasses. Definitely recommend this hike though, it's really cool.

Hello, are you planning on doing the bottom up route? The route that we did on the video is considered semi technical and requires Canyoneering experience. We had to bring our own ropes as well as the rest of the gear. If you don't have Canyoneering experience we highly recommend doing the bottom up route. It's still really pretty 👍
