They do that to know their surrondings or to smell for example when I pick up my leo he gets a bit scared but licks my hand and knows its me then he calmer again Hope this helpsss
mine gets confused when i finger feed, she boops my fingers and also the insect, so she takes a few times to get it but when i use pincets, she goes crazy like a rabid dog shaking first time i fed her like that i didnt know or expect it, didnt want to CRUSH the cricket so i held the pincet very lightly, she almost shook it out of my fingers lmaoo but when it comes to finger feeding, shes VERY gentle
Same lol my gecko is a baby still and it loves to explore. Whenever I take it out of the cage it gets very hiper and try’s to explore the room.(I won’t let him bc he could get very hurt)
Not knowing how to spell Caesar is definitely a facepalm moment. One of the most famous people in history... This is why the rest of the world makes fun of American education.
An easy way too is to let your gecko choose to be picked up! Mine is very skittish, so he knows that whenever he comes up to the front of his cage that its uppy time! I open it up and he immediately begins climbing out and onto my hand. By choice is the easiest and safest way to hold your gecko
I wouldn't recommend grabbing them from above, that tends to scare them, especially tokays. It's best to lift them from underneath, letting them crawl on.
I get rlly nervous for holding my gecko bc im so scared her tail will fall off🥲 I don’t wanna immediately grab her by the stomach so I usually corner her if I need to clean her tank and have her willingly stay on my hand
I always go with the "try to pick up, and if they try to run dont pick them up" method. Half the time my geck wants to be held😂 he is a cranky 3 year old boi
I’ve had mine for a few months now, marking a year in September. I’ve gotten him used to being held now I just need to get him better at behaving before I try to trust him running around my room lol. I hope to get there someday if not soon.
This assumes that they’re already comfortable being held. No gecko is going to want to walk towards your hand and willingly let you hold them without already knowing you aren’t a threat
Unfortunately the captive-bred leopard gecko I got online turned out to be a psycho because everytime I try to pick it up from above like you just did he freaks out and then eventually tries to bite me hard
You mean gecko soup? I was told it was because the gecko was frightened by being grabbed from the top. I wonder what the living conditions are like at the company snakes at sunset in Florida are? Every time I do business with anyone in Florida I deal with total incompetence.
I definitely recommend taking things slow. When I first got my gecko, I'd put my hand in there and let him crawl around it. I also made a little click sound with my mouth everytime I came to say hi and feed it so he would know it was me and get used to my voice. Now I put my hand in and he literally crawls on it. Sometimes when I walk by his cage he comes out asking to be held. I'd just give it time. They get more docile the older they are. Mine is three.
My first gecko comes when hesees my hand, as he knows IT'S time to get out for him 🤣🤣, at the same time, he hates if I pick him up again, as he knows it's going back time lol, and my other gecko is still pretty knew around 2 months ago I got him, and he's just getting used to handling but lol he's calmer than my first one 😭😭😭
I have a tropical gecko i just got it yesterday and I was told its a crested gecko. I just looked at him he climbed to the top of his tank🤣 Edit: ALSO PLEASE DONT HOLD THEM LIKE THAT LET THEM SIT ON UR HAND OR CRAWL UP UR ARM
Yeah but my gecko might not like it and try ti bite me even though ive had her for almost a year i dont want to stress her out but no one is helping me,
Question- what size is your tank? Right now I have a 20 gallon but I am thinking about getting a second gecko. What size tank would I need and what separator thing should I get?
Hii i have a baby well junior leopard gecko and i do the same i either put my hand out and he will climb on it or ill make sure hes ok for me to grab him and ill put my hand under him and wrap my fingers around him
How big is the tank that you split up ? Cause I might want to think about doing that because I thinking about geting another Leo but I don’t have enough room.
So cute!💖 would you mind helping me? I have- well my brother has 2 leopard geckos but he never feeds them! I have to sneek in his room while hes at work and feed them there tails are as skinny as my pinky😢 ones like simi albino? And a female and the other is like brownish grey and a male and has stuck on shed its been on him for a while i cant get it off because he SUPER aggressive because hes never held and im almost positive they have mbd because theres no ubv on them or heat lamps...what do i do😞
Hey. First off you are awesome for taking of ur brothers geckos. Second, i think it’s best to feed ur geckos like normal but dust them in vitamin supplements. That’s actually the reason leopard geckos don’t need UVB( it is beneficial but you don’t need it) because leopard geckos can get all of their nutrition for vitamin dusted insects. Also I would start handling ur gecko once it starts to look more healthy, from there continue to handle 1 to 2 times a week and the gecko should be more friendly. Again make sure you do your research but there still might be a chance to save the geckos
I got my gecko a week ago and I’ve tried three times to hold it by leaving my hand in the tank when they look at me curiously but she just bit me :,) I’m new to owning one so idk what to do, they are a juvenile from a reptile store Mack snow
My gecko rarely wants to be held but she makes it clear when she does, she’ll climb right up your sleeve We JUST moved last night so she’s all shaken up but I just saw her in her cave a little while ago so she’s doing alright, just slow, doesn’t understand what’s happening
my gecko died a couple days ago but I still have another gecko my albino leopard gecko she died but I still have my regular leopard gecko Layla so she refused to get off my hand because my hands are so warm and so I had to get the rock out of the cage her Little Rock and I put a cloth down on my bed and put the rock on it so now she's just sitting inside of her Rock sleeping
Yeah but when i touch mine he starts moving like I'm trying to kill him. I don't understand is mine broken or something. I know they have a strange behavior but I don't see this in others
I feel so bad one time i was holding my leapord gecko and he jumped outa my hand and i tried to catch him but i accidently grabed his tail he didnt drop it tho and another time he jumped outa my hand again and smacked the ground he was alright but i feel like the worst gecko onwer now😔😭
