Turn 50 on Dec. All year every now and again I randomly mentioned how I wanted a violin wanting to learn so many songs... on Christmas day my husband surprised me with a red electric violin can not wait to begin to learn ..thank you for posting thos videos .
I’m getting my violin tomorrow, and I will be a complete beginner. I so much appreciate your great lessons, and I plan to also sign up for your online lessons. You are so thorough with all your explanations! It’s almost like I’m right there with you. Thank you so much!
Omg I was just watching ur “violin lessons 1-20 playlist” a while ago then I saw this and wow you look so different and amazing. p.s. just started my violin lessons today 😭 I’m crying I’m so happy. this is my first time learning an instrument
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us and making it possible to learn at home! I’ve been watching your violin lessons and learning at my own pace and I love it!! 💜
Alison sweetheart don't listen to what negative people say feedback is important though whether good or bad but just don't listen to it. Cause Everytime I watch your videos i improve more than when I watch other you tube videos. You are an amazing and great tutor❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️✨i appreciate you. With love all the way from Zambia 🇿🇲♥️❣️
Hi, Alison, thank you for posting this!! I used to play violin, viola, cello and contrabass, but did irreversible nerve damage years ago, which pretty much made my arm/fingers useless for asuch a delicate instrument... I already used a different methond, but now I can fix the posture, THANKS TO YOU!
Bend the thumb..I must have missed that in your earlier videos. Picked up on it on this video. Again Allison videos are a godsend. Thanks for your dedication.
Thank you so much for this video, really useful and informative. I started the violin lessons 1-10 and really found them beneficial, they just make sense and are informative. I recommend checking them out to anyone.
Of the many bow holds, I use the "whatever feels the most comfortable bow hold," and still be able to play with "feeling, phrasing, vibrato, and all that good stuff." 😉 🎻 🎶🎵
Started out with a basic $75.00 Eastar 3/4 Violin i played that for the first few months i easily outgrew it because i could feel my left hand fingers quickly getting the grip of the neck. I started teaching myself how to do Vibrato and figured i needed a more high quality violin so i recently upgraded to a 4/4 model 250 Stradivarius. I can definitely tell the difference in sound and pitch the bow is definitely complimentary. It still feels difficult rotating my fingers on the strings.
Thank you for all your help. Every time I i do a string crossing cleanly with no crunch or scoop, I feel I’m that much closer to almost being a real fiddle player.
I've just picked up a student violin (hobby guitarist with some classical guitar/piano background) and I'm so excited about what you have to teach. Your videos I've seen have been great so far. I have one problem. Bilateral brachydactyly, or toe thumbs, both sides. My most distal joint is very mobile but my 2nd is fairly immobile but my thumbs move differently, and are up to 10mm shorter than average.
I started watching your 1-30 lessons about two weeks ago and i am completly a beginner now im learning first finger but i have a problem my first finger doesn't sound good i fixed the tune but it didn't change
Hello Alison, I actually learned from your lessons but im currently stuck in 3rd and 4th finger. Can you give us video about exercises on how to strengthen the bow hold? Thank you so much! You're a great teacher :)
Hi Alison, first of all your videos are really helpful so thank you :) I have a request that I'd really appreciate if you do it, can you do a piano cover/tutorial for "The very last time" by Bullet for my valentine?? I've been searching for a tutorial or sheet music on that song for so long and it looks like it doesn't exist at all for some reason :(
Very informative lesson for bow holding, I noticed about your bow hair became dirty, how often would you need to rehair a bow for students/professionals?
I just got my Violin. I always wanted to learn.I started to put rosin on then bow and a hair came out the a second hair. Am i doing something wrong? What do I do with the loose hair? I also have short tiny figures, especially my pinky is super short. I do play a Flute and this is exciting for me as I been wanting to do this for about 30 years.
I do follow your violin lessons but the bow hold is something I had to learn from different online teachers because I found yours wrong for my hand. I was fighting hard to make and keep it but it didn't work for me. My pinky kept locking, middle fingers were uncomfortable, fingers were slipping from their places and I kept ending holding the bow with just the tips of my fingers for some reason, I couldn't relax my hand. Finally I watched mr Perlman lesson on bow hold and a few others and figured out a way to hold it that works for me and still has my fingers placed in all the right places, except comparing to yours, my thumb goes opposite middle finger not between middle and ring finger, and my fingers are a bit more curved, not gripping and still slightly below the level of wrist but a bit less straight,I just find it more natural and relaxed for my hand. Anyways I'd recommend to anyone learning on their own to watch a few videos on how to hold a bow, try different holds and then decide which is best for their anatomy
Absolutely, well said! I think thats it isnt it - people just assume that my hold is automatically wrong, when its not, its just different as there are many different bow holds and if mine doesn't suit you, then you can tweak it until it does.
@@TheOnlineViolinTutor yes, it works for you so you prove it right with your playing. It can be wrong, or not entirely right, for a specific person though. I think it's mostly the length of fingers and the proportion of length between thumb and other fingers that decides what is more or less comfortable. I have small hands and it influences not only my ability to properly place fingers on strings but also my bow hold. I just have to take that into consideration and adjust what I learn from you or anyone else to my body because what is right for you, might not be right or possible for me
I've been playing for nearly 20 years, and I've realised I've got into bad habits (as you do with anything!) I don't think my finger positions on my bow were correct, I put all my fingers resting on top of the wood. So I've tried your technique of how it should be, and my goodness my hand does not want to do it, it's so uncomfortable! 😭 Need to get back to basics! Thanks for the videos ❤️
How can i tell for sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the violin has an issue? I seem to always hit multiple strings when trying to hit the A string. I'm on lesson 2 and I've gone back to lesson 1 cos of this! Its really frustrating because I can hit the other strings just fine. It is a cheap(ish) violin and I'm not sure if the bridge is the issue as I'm so inexperienced
My bowing only sounds good closer to the bridge. Any notes bowed below middle towards the fingerboard sounds awful and I can’t get any pure sound. Why is this? Also my violin has a shorter bridge than the normal taller ones. Could this be why?
Hi i just had my violin a few days ago and i have been watching some of your tutorials. When I hold the bow like you said, with my middle and ring finger either side of my thumb, i am struggling not to touch the hair of the bow with my middle finger (and sometimes my thumb too). is it ok if my fingers is touching the hair of the bow?
Alison, one question please : What is the best full size violin for a beginner , Cecilio CVN 500 or Mendini MV 400 , or Mendini MV 500 ?? Need your advice , Thank you .
Hey, I am from India. I am learning to play the violin(Indian Carnatic style). I don't know how to read western music notes nor even the basics of western music. Will the' 1-30 violin course' help me?
I have so much trouble with the hand positions no matter how many videos I watch! 😭 Holding the bow is so uncomfortable (mostly it feels like there's no comfortable place to rest my pinky and it presses too hard so it hurts) and I immediately end up shifting my hand so my wrist isn't where it should be 😭😭😭
I have been playing for three months. Practice as much as possible. I have a violin instructor and the one thing I’m struggling so hard with is the flippin bow hold. It’s annoying ! I have everything else down packed but I just can’t seem to get the dang bow hold right !
My pinkie finger stretches/collapses so it doesn’t stay on the tip of the fingernail . I hate the fact that after all my years I’ve violin I can’t hold my bow properly however it doesn’t effect my playing I only noticed this year 🥴🥴🥴
