It is super important to have a balanced bow hold that can be flexible at any part of the bow. I also give a very simple exercise to explore your bow hold and how it behaves at the frog, middle and tip of the bow.

What was your biggest takeaway and what tip will you implement in your violin practice?

The detailed explanation of the thumb position really helped me. I started learning violin in December 2020 as a 28 year old adult. I am self taught and was always struggling to figure out how to place my thumb so that it feels comfortable. Thank you so much

This video clicked, especially since relaxation is an ongoing practice. This time everything just fell into place, awareness of finger roles, etc. It also helped right away with better double stops. Thank you, as always.

Super glad it helped. Glad to hear the double stops are even better. Wishing you a fabulous, safe and healthy 2021.

My biggest take away was to relax the handle before finding the proper thumb placement. I will be using these cues for my son. He gets tight shoulders and neck, any thing I can share to lessen his discomfort, I am on top of it 😉

Tressey, your son is so lucky to have you. Keep me posted how it goes! IT sounds like his violin hold isn't set ergonomically for his body structure if he gets tight shoulders and neck from playing the violin. Even the smallest adjustments to proper positioning can make big pain free results. Thank you for watching and commenting.

thank you for all your information. I noticed when the frog was at the strings, your wrist was flat as opposed to a high arch as others teach. which do you think is the correct wrist position (shape)?
@HeatherKaye
@HeatherKaye 3 года назад
The wrist should have a slight hill at the frog. How high the hill depends on the string and the elbow height.
