How to Hollow Out Catalytic Converters 

easier method; pull cstalyic converter out, throw a metal pipe through it to hollow it out, reinstall it, done!

I've always had good results with a wooden dowel and a mallet. This seem needlessly complex.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the "fibreglass matting" is not actually fibreglass at all, but is likely to be Refractory Ceramic Fibre matting. Why is this bad news? Mostly because RCF is considered hazardous waste and is very dangerous if inhaled, being made of extremely fine fibres which are easily breathed in if made airborne. It has health implications like those of asbestos.

I just bought a 5.0 and it was tuned for no catalytic converters in a different state the state i live in requires it for state inspection should I do this and still be able too pass inspection?

I was looking for old 80s car solution where cat melted inside. Usually caused by too lean or too rich condition. My solution was a direct fit "track or test pipe" (straight pipe) to replace melted cat. However, no aftermarket test pipe for a Z31, have to use a custom exhaust shop. More expense, so 2nd solution was to remove melted ceramic and rare metal materials from inside cat. electric or air powered chisel from box store will do this easier than a hammer. I would not recommend blowing this material airborne however, that is not inert non-toxic material. Old cars in my State don't have to have emission tests. Old pre OBD2 cars usually have O2 sensor in front of the Cats not behind CAT so nothing to cause error.

This thread is a bit old now, but I'll ask the question anyways and maybe someone will be able to give definitive answers. DID THIS MOD SET ANY DTC CODES? EMMISION ERROR CODES? YOU WOULD THINK THAT THE O2 SENSORS and VCM WOULD DETECT CHANGES AND TRY TO COMPENSATE.

my shit box 2005 92x linear saab i use to get to work i suspect has a clogged cat, temp gauge fluctuates, i checked for bad head gaskets, no fluid mixing with the oil etc. temp sensors fine and coolant is topped off, would this get rid of my check engine light, or should i go to a muffler shop for a upper cat delete?

Far from simple and easy! Plus drilling will kick up a bunch of dust you might not want to breathe in.

I got my car scanned with one of those readers and it said I had a bad catalytic converter.. my friend who knows about cars told me that instead of replacing it I could just "knock out the fiberglass". I'm assuming this is what he meant but not totally sure. If there is anyone here that could tell me if this is what I should do, that would be vert helpful. thaks
