In our county in Virginia our superintendent said we’d only need to mark the religious exemption as our reason for homeschooling and wouldn’t need a letter or references. But I just sent it in the way they said so we shall see.
Hey there, I live in Virginia as well. I personally don’t have any social media but am wanting to homeschool my son. I just wanted to know how to get into homeschool groups. This is all so new to me and very much overwhelming. Thank you for all you’re great videos!!
Hi Katie! Thanks for reaching out. There is so much out there for homeschooling that it can definitely feel overwhelming. My best advice is to start off very simply! Don’t try to do it all at once or even in your first year. Choose a couple of things to focus on that are important to you and then slowly build on it! Here is a link to HEAVs website that shows a list of homeschool groups through out Virginia! I hope it helps. heav.org/homeschool-support-group/
Hi,yes you have to inform the school your intentions if your son actually goes to school! and after deschooling your son and you too that means take time to enjoy and know each other and forget the idea of the regular school system! This 's an opinion only! Thanks!
I don’t have that personal experience of bringing a kid home from public school, but I’ve heard many moms say the same thing - that there’s a process of reconnecting and getting rid of that public school mindset! Thanks for the comment!
So I’m in Va and we use public online school as our Curriculum k12 and connections academy we transition from public to homeschooling it’s all new to me I have 11 ,6 ,3,2 graders and we still have to take sols I didn’t mention that and I would love to learn how to find something were we don’t have to take sols I would to know more about how u do things
This is a great question! We don't homeschool through the public school system, we homeschool under the homeschool statute. This means I get to pick out the curriculum we use for the different subjects. It also means we don't do SOLs! We are required to do end of the year testing, but it can be any nationally normed standardized test.
@@pillarsandpress thank you I did more research recently and I’m going become their home instructor I’ve already started looking at curriculums that I want to buy thank you for responding
The state of Virginia doesn't require testing for Kindergarten. I used the TerraNova 2/Cat6 test for 1st grade. It is available through Seton Testing Services. www.setontesting.com/product/terranova/
Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting. Could you elaborate on your questions? Are you looking for info on how to notify the school district that you'll be homeschooling or what curriculum to purchase?
