I like the information here, but I would like to see the basics of how the hand needs to position itself thru the swing to get to the outside and then finish. A frame or segmented analysis of how the hand is working at getting to outside through the swing would help us to try and emulate the correct method of release….. thanks

My scratch league just started on a really short 26' with low volume last night and I was just working on this so it's cool this ironically popped up in recommended. I was playing essentially straight up the 2-board going right up the back of the ball. My comfort zone is usually high axis rotation but that simply will not work on super short patterns. This is solid advice.

Belmo is a master of axis tilt, axis rotation, rev control, loft and ball speed control - All whilst walking diagonally across the approach. If you’re not sure, use a full roller so that your ball does not skid through the oil and let the ball design do the talking (i.e. dictate the ball path through the pocket, king and 8 & 9 pins).

Made me feel less guilty when many years ago I used to almost "spin" the ball to get it get down the lane when bowling an evening "C" squad at a PBA regional (southern region) when the lanes were completely scorched. I've never heard the names but I kinda realized the difference on my own. I realized if i tried to get all hook from my fingers (which is up the back) i get less hook but more control. If i try to get more hook by really getting under the ball and rotating my wrist i get way more hook but it's harder to control. When I'm on the more hook style is way more powerful but so much harder to control

@Anders-B
@Anders-B Год назад
@Daniel Bennett Honestly don't feel the statement that the main purpose of 2-handed us to maximise revs, its just a by product. We do it for a variety of reasons, there are several in my league and non of them are "Switchers to get more revs" In fact, maybe we are all bad bowlers or doing it wrong, but I find way more consistency on a house shot playing narrower even if I can play all over the lane with the right ball. But because of the flexibility to adjust our style and still put loads of revs on, we have the benefit of changing the angle easily. In fact you find some bowlers at the top level like Jesper Svensson who can bowl with just one ball all tournament and just change their speed, angle, position, loft etc without needing a ball change, so that's why I feel it would be beneficial for us amateurs to have that expert analysis on when and how to change.
@Anders-B
@Anders-B Год назад
@Daniel Bennett Sorry buddy not defensive just countering your first comment "Harder for this analysis to work" - rather see someone attempting analysis than someone commenting, "its harder to do that, don't bother" Anyway, we're all good, I just have a better grasp on the subject.... cos I use 2 hands.... /joke

Hey fellas, after a ton of research and trying out on the lanes, I've found that perfecting this release is extremely difficult for us mortals and I believe I finally figured out why. No instructional video that I've come across talks about the whipping motion the arm does and or the snap forward. It happens so fast and from some angles, in slow motion, you can't even see it but every pro has it. This is what I'm missing and can't seem to wrap my head around and from everything that I've watched and read this is what others struggle with as well or they do not even know it exists. Every video talks about cupped to uncupped and elbow bend. I believe if this motion can be explained then more people would be able to perform this release or at the very least understand it much better. I'm surprised out of all the videos out there and I've watched hundreds this isn't covered at all to my knowledge.
@jamiehickey4808
@jamiehickey4808 3 года назад
Definitely a tricky one, and you're right, not many vids out there explain it. Easiest way I can, is that it's just your hand extending to it's lowest point, so basically, keep your elbow bent up until you're about to hit your release point, extend to release the ball, and let your arm swing up, while maintaining firm wrist action and control. Should give you the reaction you're looking for. It's like pitching a baseball, just the other way around.

@@jamiehickey4808 Thank you very much for the response good sir it's much appreciated. This has been one of the most frustrating things in my sports life. Super coordinated guy, a scratch golfer, played all sports growing up it all came naturally to me, but this bowling release has me getting far too many gray hairs lol. I'm a 200 average with my release but I'm a one-trick pony if I have to move left forget it, I'm a Walter ray norm duke play right type but they both can move left I cannot. Thanks again for the response and I will do my best to put your thoughts in motion would love to see a video on this from these guys explaining how to get there and the steps involved. So I’m with you my man and it’s super frustrating I probably have 2 days worth if not more of studying this material for the release your talking about, it’s very involved way more then ANYONE leads on...your fingers have a great deal of involvement along with keeping that elbow tucked and getting that thumb out super fast(been trying to get it down but it’s so uncomfortable and it’s a lot of work putting the pieces together in one super fast motion) my rev-rate is 350 ish the way it is would love to get to 400 - 450 but it’s definitely difficult.
@existenceghost9701
@existenceghost9701 3 года назад
@@djsully8071 Perfectly said DJ, I'm honestly running out of videos to watch regarding anything bowling release related lmao. I watch some stuff practice as much as I can without actual lanes at the house feel really good like ok I got this, get to the lanes throw the ball and I couldn't be further off. Drives me mad. Tuck the elbow, slight elbow bend is enough, work the inside, yo-yo the wrist, roll the bowl with the fingers, seems so damn simple and it is until you get a 15-pound ball on your hand. lol, I see the snap that I mentioned or a whip-like motion it's like the pro's best kept secret and no one talks about it because I believe if I can understand that motion ill get it. I'm not too concerned with revs as much as I am being able to play all parts of the lane, id be totally fine with a Francios Lavoie type release all day. Anyway, best of luck to you brother hope you get it.

I've long done this, but only recently found that the the balls that have the pin kicked out a little to the right (i'm a righty) hit way better when I come up the back. If the pin is above or below the finger holes, I find it leaves 10's and those layouts I have to come out with more axis rotation and my hand more off the side. In short, I only come up the back when the pin is off to the side some, and then use different levels of axis rotation release when the pin is right above or below the fingers for best results.

I'm always amazed how, in all these videos, these guys are just able to swing the ball back and forth with one hand time and time again with the ball not moving an iota. I struggle to stay behind the ball and not grip with my thumb, partly because I feel like the damn thing is going to fall out of my hand on my backswing if I don't. Accordingly, I can't hit my mark consistently, my track looks like a UFO spinner and my average has gone down from when I used a 13-pound house ball and just threw it straight since I got fitted for my own ball and have been trying to throw a hook. The pro shop guy told me he was giving me the lightest ball he'd recommend for someone like me. It still feels too heavy -- like if I tried to hold the ball like these guys do, I'd hurt my wrist.

I don't take 5 different balls to the alley like many do. So I make my ball work for me and the shot I am throwing. Most the time when the lanes are good I roll right straight up the back of the ball but what I also found like with a ten pin I just kinda push my ball off my hand instead of rolling it off my fingers. I don't throw it very fast when I do this but it takes a lot of the hook out and lets me go after the right side easier. Even though it goes slower it still hooks less. Most the time I am a down and in kind of bowler and keep my hand behind the ball but if I have to swing it some from out of the oil to the dry and back I will move more around to the side of the ball some but still behind the ball.. being able do do theses things took years to learn but it will make you a better bowler all around,

@anthonygomes3751 3 года назад
Well explained...as per my understanding and also as I see during play, I feel that a heavier oil pattern needs a side role in combination with a strong ball. Whereas a drier pattern, a forward role with a moderate hooking ball will do the job. My question to you now is do we need different ball drilling layouts for a forward rolling and side rolling or the same layout would work for both the options but only hand position change?
@FearTheWeird300

👀
@bowlingxp8345
@bowlingxp8345 3 года назад
Well...depends. Sometimes heavier patterns are also longer. So if you increase axis rotation the ball might go too long. Or it will be inconsistent because it will be sensitive to speed and lane transition. Most pros on tv on long heavy flat patterns go with low axis rotation to control the motion and be close to the pocket. YOu need to try both and see what works for your conditions. :)

@jamiehickey4808
@jamiehickey4808 3 года назад
@@anthonygomes3751 Same layout won't always work. Where the weight is in relation to the holes can affect how the ball reacts down lane. @bowlingxp8345
@bowlingxp8345 3 года назад
@@anthonygomes3751 For altering axis rotation, the layout is not an obstacle. It's just that some layout will work better with some axis and some better with other axis. @drwisdom1
@drwisdom1 3 года назад
I have been bowling in league since 1979 and have a different perspective on axis rotation. Used to be you would have to throw the ball slow enough so that it would hook. Today, due to the revolution in bowling equipment, you throw the ball hard so it doesn't hook too much. Axis rotation definitely adds more hook, but today you can purchase as much hook as you want from your local Pro Shop so you don't need to use axis rotation to get there. The small amount of axis rotation that you naturally impart when staying behind the ball causes the ball to hit the pocket at the correct rotation angle. But as you add more axis rotation you move the rotation toward the balls equator significantly increasing the chances of leaving a 10 pin. If you are smaller like me (160 lb) or Mr. Miller, when you give it more axis rotation you lose power generating weaker hits. If you are over 200 pounds then that isn't much of an issue.
@deano42
@deano42 Год назад
In theory that's correct, but in practice ... I purchased a ball that is supposed to hook, drilled it fingertip, but I still have a hard time hooking it consistently. My wife, on the other hand, can hook a plastic house ball with ease. We got her a new ball and when she presented her old one to the pro shop dude he looked at her in disbelief and said, "You're throwing a hook with *this?* She beamed with pride after that. That's my favorite part of bowling ... trying to work the math and physics out. Every time I step on those boards it's a new set of calculations ... where to stand, starting positions, speed of approach, holding the ball, shoulder checks, torso control, release protocols, spots and arrows ... and the fact that we are able to calculate all of that in the 4 to 10 seconds between arrival and release, adjusting as we move, all on an instinctive level ... and manage to knock those pins down after all of that - hell, in *spite* of all of that. Well it falls squarely in the zone of Miraculous if you ask me. Which nobody did ... so I'll sit down quietly now. Sorry. (...let's go blues...)

Love these videos. Its always best to miss light. I have been a player with about a over 400 rpm and my speed was around 16 mph. I have a style i would liken to a PDW in that I loOOVE axis rotation. My Track flare gets so close to my finger holes its crazy. I find myself manipulating the ball through the heads and suffer from under over reaction bc of it. I did find success at Nationals in 2017 at Southpoint. I ended up shooting 1700 even for the 9 gms and finished 193rd place in Standard All events 190-209 average. I was blown away how good I was bowling bc while everyone was trying to throw it up 14-18 board or whatever out to like 8/9 bc there was a huge out of bounds if it got inside of the 7... I was fading the ball around 21/22 at the arrows with my SCANDAL SOLID and with a lot of axis rotation and nearly BEAK'ing it through the nose but I was stoked. I mets several pros that trip like Haugen Jr., Kyle Troup, and even bumped into a friend I bowled Junior OJCTA's with a decade earlier, so random!! We got a pick and everything. Anyone know Chris Mongelli? He's a beast on the lanes. I think he is a ball rep now.

hello maybe helpful to have a lighter colored ball with a pattern to show the roll with a mark on the axis?

Jus started bowling again after 8 years ahah , any recommendations? I have 3 14lb balls I’m a 2 finger bowler and my fingers & wrist are killing me I can’t really use 1 hand to smoothly throw it so it’s hurting, but I don’t wanna start using 2 hands

I miss bowling. Kinda wish I had never quit. My ball is 20+ years old now and the grips have gotta be shot. Think I have a Zone and a Rhino Pro in that bag haha

If you guys invested in some high speed cameras it would be cool to see high definition slow motion of ball movement and stuff like that.

I don't hear that too often "I'm one of those guys that naturally likes to go up the back" lmao

For me, its hard to get under the ball for some reason. Had someone record me the other day and my hand was so over the ball. Should I try using a lighter ball? I'm using a 13 pound surge

Recently was finally able to bowl after 8 months off. Took it slow but encountered a problem. My pointer finger was really catching the stress of the ball. I bowled for 25 years and now have this problem. What is a solution. Do not over crank the ball.

It would really help to have something visual on the bowling ball so you can see the change in rotation as well

So for a bowler that usually comes around the bowling ball then choose to do the opposite, does that bowler usually see a huge loss in the amount of revs when making that adjustment?

Typically when I like to go up the back I tend to release on the forward as well. For a good strong finish, drive the ball forward for the best action.

Two questions, guys: first, doesn't axis tilt also extend the skid phase? Second, it seems, from personal experience, that wrist supports don't make it easy to stay up the back of the ball. any thoughts or suggestions?

I feel like as I move left, I naturally try to add axis rotation, but then if I need to move back right, I struggle to undo the axis rotation I added, any tips?

Can you guys explain some tips on 2 hands if you know any?
@jamiehickey4808
@jamiehickey4808 3 года назад
All these tips work for 2 handers (I use them for it myself!) you just might need to slow down a bit and adapt them slightly to your method of bowling. This one for example might need a change in where your left hand is positioned also, to be able to change around your right a bit and maintain balance/strength, until you find the right spot
