Bowlings' worst nightmare, throwing it nice and easy. It seems counter-productive, but it can make all the difference in the world.

Nice tips. I had been trying to change my release gesture to control my rev, it worked little though. So I started to focus on controlling the ball speed rather than the rev, and it seemed better. I'm so glad I didn't take the wrong direction to improve when your video pops up. I have kept following up with your channel for three more months. You guys are awesome and I'll learn more from you.

You guys rock! Thank you! Bowling has Been my passion and stress release for years. I can remember trying to learn the modern game by slowing down VHS tapes of shows… I was always a traditional straight arm square shoulder stroker… Because that’s what Fred Borden taught me… But it’s just not Enough to compete… At least for me… so I changed To a crank style...worked my ass off and doing well...then.. enter RU-vid, you two, and a few others that have really saved me many hours of frustration trying To figure it out myself…Which by the way big fan of you both...Not many sports have stars like yourself with good character… I believe our sport is almost exclusive in that way… Anyway it’s so much nicer these days to be able to watch Bowling whatever I want on RU-vid… Or some advice on things I’m struggling on via online. Thank you for helping me so much through your videos… You’re making a difference and I get excited to try a new technique you propose… I can’t wait until it’s safe and I can get some in person quality instruction… Stay safe out there thank you for all you do

I'm still pretty new to bowling and learning from the owner of my local pro shop, and slowing myself down has been one of the main things my teacher has had me focus on. Especially since I just switched to The Parallax effect for my main ball, and it has been making a world of difference.

Ball speed is how Bill O'Neill just won the PBA Playoffs - he used a strong ball and kept ball speed up to get a touch less hook and come in straighter. Beautiful.

speed control is very necessary and that has become more clear to me as i have bowled in more tournaments. I've also really only bowled at one house, but i have been very quick to adapt to different houses and patterns fairly quickly. This year I have been participating in the junior gold events, and ive realized that i need practice on different oil patterns. However with covid that is very difficult to get. I think that using speed control is very hard and the only way i can really do it is if i move up on the approach and take out a few steps which forces me to walk slower, but with larger strides. I love your channel, keep up the good work!

I had a knee replacement and am just getting back to bowling. Starting with foul line drills which is new to me. I usually roll up the 7-8 board on house shot but now I am standing far left and seeing break at 8-10 board. Totally out of my comfort zone but it is because ball speed is at 50%. This has been great for my game understanding and proves out your points to me. Thanks for the great vids.

Great video, again! One thing to consider about ball speed control, and why it is so important. There are 4 elements you can control (not including the line of play) when you release the ball, that are generated by your approach. They are: speed, revolutions, axis tilt, axis rotation. Of that 4 elements, the only one that is relatively easy to adjust is the ball speed. All others are much, much harder to control and repeat constantly. So, you can do yourself a lot of good by learning a few exercises to control your ball speed and become a much versatile bowler. One of the easiest ones is just moving your feet at the start of the approach forward (slower ball speed), or backward (faster ball speed), this is just one example. Good job Brad and Kayle, keep them coming! :)

I've had time to watch a few of your videos today and I learned alot! I have a fast and high rev shot and main issues I have is hitting right or having it hook a ton and go to the 4/7 pins. Going to try working on keeping to the inside of the ball and stay same pace or slow pace and keep same rev and see how it goes.

You guys need to put the camera to the right side of the lane when you throw the ball. Because with it on the left side of your body blocks the ball going probably about halfway down the lane we can't see it. So Kyle you need to stand on the left and put the camera Where You Are. Thanks for the video this is a fantastic video ball speed means so much in a game of bowling. I unfortunately can't seem to feel my ball more than 15 miles an hour so I am always standing left. Which isn't a bad thing I love hooking the ball that's what I'm good at

Thank you for this video. Although, this is something I should have thought of. I don't know what my rev rate is, however I can move a 15 pound ball at upwards of 20 MPH, one handed. Boys cover Wrist Flexion its amazing to me that no one talks about this but is so important for revs not to mention every pro uses some form of this. I studied the pro release for a year, practiced daily, and just couldn't seem to grasp it. 200 average bowler. Then I came across a Japanese coach, and another and another all of them talk about wrist flexion. Once I saw their demonstration of what this is, with no English subtitles mind you, I finally understood what was happening and my revs went through the roof.

I agree with what is being said. Though, I see a lot of people keep their ball speed slower than they should to stand furthur left as a righty. You should also do a video to promote speed. Speed and revs both promote pin carry on their own. Reading the lane to figure out what combination you need is key

I had a really low rev rate about 18 years ago, practically a straight bowler. Back then I was throwing the ball at around 20 miles per hour. A former pro bowler coached me and one of his recommendations was for me to lower my ball speed to maximize my bowling ball's capabilities. I was so suprised how easy it was for my ball to hook when I dropped my ball speed to 18 miles per hour. Even more surprised how easy it is for my ball to find "the zone" when my ball was hooking like that. Right now, I'm probably at 16-17 miles per hour and my ball is hooking just fine.

I am a beginner. But I think there is a point where ball speed has a negative effect on knocking down pins. I think 14 mph i the faster I can get and I am often more at ten. But I find bowling slower helps me figure out what I am doing right or wrong in my throw.

Ball speed is full of complex discussion. My speed for a strike is usually 13 - 14 mph. When I look at it, I observe the angle of my ball reaction. When I throw it about 15 mph or higher, I miss the head pin. This video is a great example of what I have been working on.

This is my current issue. I'm a big guy with long arms and legs, and I'm definitely speed-dominant. When I'm practicing on burned-up open lanes, there's enough hook that my high ball speed doesn't cause any issues. But the minute I get on fresh league conditions, getting the ball back to the pocket is a pain in the ass, and my average drops in an ugly way. I already know I'm supposed to slow it down, but it's hard to do it consistently. Even when I'm really trying to bowl slower, I'm 2-3 MPH faster then most of the other guys in league. It's tough. I'm considering hitting my ball with surface because I'm having so much trouble with slowing it down.

Thank you so much for this!! I just started bowling for the first time a couple of months ago, and was trying to find my disconnect between my one step drill to my full approach. During my one step drill could hit the pocket most of the time, but when I would try my full approach my ball was not reading the lane at all. This makes so much more sense now!! I have to stop trying to yeet the ball down the lane on my full approach. Thank you again and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

That had been my problem for most of league this year until our state's shutdown, throwing too damn fast. That's the biggest reason why I've been in a funk for half the season. I stubbornly finally admitted to myself that throwing max effort for every shot is not sustainable and not repeatable for all 3 games. Even though I kept reminding myself beforehand to "slow it down" (New Edition style), but you get hyped up and still try to throw it 80 mph. As with most sports, when you try to throw your hardest, you over throw. When I over throw, I have a tendency to yank on it and throw it down the middle and not get it out to my optimal break point. The revelation came and I had that eureka moment when on the tv broadcast where Francois Lavoie threw his 300 vs Sean Rash and the announcer said he's "just pure-ing it out of his hand." Then all of a sudden, instead of trying to force it, I let it come off naturally (pure-ing it) and boom, back to back 600s from a 175 average bowler, including losing a perfect game in the 10th. Meanwhile noticing that my first ball average speed went from 13.5 to 12.5 mph. I wholeheartedly agree that speed control is a very important aspect of the game. Granted, someone that can throw 20 mph usually have a little more forgiveness as far as slightly missing the pocket with sheer power and pin action. But for the guys that throw less than 14mph, it's crucial to their success.

This is a good topic which many bowlers cannot do. Unfortunately, they don't tell you how to slow down. You need to move up on the approach, hold the ball higher in your set up, and walk slower to the line. This will slow you down without disturbing your timing.
@gavinwinkler1147
@gavinwinkler1147 3 года назад
I've noticed that the height of the ball in the setup doesn't matter much, but the height of the ball in the back swing matters a lot more. If you can keep your timing the same, slow the feet down, and lower the peak of your backswing, it does the same job

My problem is I can't throw the ball fast enough to hit the pocket on a consistent basis. Many shots hit Brooklyn or miss wide on the left side of the 1 pin. If I move left sometimes I get a good shot and hit pocket but a lot of the time I don't get good shots. Once in a while I put together a great game (topping 200 or even 230 to 250). But it would be nice to be more consistent.

I like to tell my buddies that throw it hard to "wait on it" when they can't get it to bite up. If you have someone really focus on waiting until the ball is directly under your shoulder to hit it I find it tends to slow them down a bit and ultimately have a better roll on it.

You mean down and in? And with low revs generally you'd want to play straighter, since you get the best carry there, but if the lanes allow it, you can move a little deeper, slow down, and shape it and you'll carry just fine. Typically the lanes won't transition much with the lack of traffic on the left side of the lane tho, so you can play straight for a long time before having to move

It's not good if I can't watch the ball go down the lane. You tell me what happened but I don't get to see it.

imagine your rev rate being that slow the ball doesn't come back to pocket on that shot at 7:30

He's using a Hy-Road X, throwing it easily 18mph, and his rev rate is about 430, also you don't know what kind of pattern was down on the lane, it could've been longer or heavier. The reason I say this is because sometimes I can't play that deep at that speed and my rev rate is easily 520+
