Learn how to hop your mountain bike! This video breaks down all the elements that go into getting your bike off the ground. Slightly different from a traditional bunnyhop, this skill will help you gain confidence and allow you to readjust or reset on your bike, especially when you are riding challenging trails.
We break down the skill into three parts, and it is followed by a handful of drills that you can practice to lock in this new ability!

These are the first moves I learnt after track stand. Looking back, it took me quite a while to master these basic moves but it came without notice while I was practicing other more tricky moves.

@@SuperRiderTV I tried these hops today for the 1st time, I was only able to hop the front wheel a few inches left and right. was able to only lift the back wheel some inches in the air (not left and right). also I tried doing both together (hops) but managed to get the chain stuck on the derailer 😅

Do u brake both the front and rear wheels during the hopping?
@SuperRiderTV

Yes! Sometimes I’ll let off the back wheel slightly to adjust my pedals to keep them level - but for the main technique, it’s with both brakes.

I’be been working on this. I can do side, backward circular hop but hopping forward seems difficult (even unnatural) and I am sure what I am doing wrong.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 2 года назад
Try getting ahead of the bike (over the bars) and pulling the bike up toward you. Just try to move it a little bit at a time, as you get more efficient with the movement, it’ll start moving farther with each hop. Practice makes progress! 👊

I can now hop vertical while in trackstand. But I fail to initialize the lateral motition. Do you have a tip how to learn this movement ?
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Год назад
Try leaning the bike in the opposite direction when you load up for the hop. When you pull up on the bike, the motion of straightening the bike (from side to side) will create enough momentum to move it laterally! Sometimes I'll even trackstand with my front tire facing away from the direction I want to go. Check this video out, actually - there's some principles in here that will be helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r5gfcBqbELQ.html

One thing that helped me is to use a full suspension bike to practice. Doing this for an hour with no cushion and poor technique is really hard on the body. Was able to spin 120 degrees today, but only to the left :| My goal is a 180 on rollers, like Brumotti.

Are the Diety you use on the Mountain bike the same rise as you use on STB? 80mm rise? My DJB frame is more similar to this bike than your other trial specific bikes. Ive experimented so much, I have 100-120 travel on a DJB frame. what rise handlebar would you recomend for learning.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Год назад
Yeah - same handlebars on both bikes, just to stay consistent. I like having a higher rise bar when I'm practicing (or teaching) techniques - it gives me a ton of control. You might try the 80mm rise bars on your bike, just to see how it feels!

@@SuperRiderTV Thank you, I'm practicing a little after my 40km rides, mainly on paved roads and some off-road trails. Gonna get me a riser bar coz that will make it a bit easier. As you said, practice makes progress. Progress boosts confidence and it also makes those muscles used for that particular trick stronger and install memory. So it all adds up bit by bit. It takes a lot of core strength to do some of these tricks, but mainly I think it's about winning over your fear and gaining confidence. Best regards and congrats for your channel 👍👍 Keep it up mate ☮️

@@SuperRiderTV yes those tips works, just need patience and practice, I am on rear pivots, front and rear lifts and few low bunny hops, I used to have 9 speed 11-46t the spacing is either too light or too heavy for pedal drop, I switched to 11 speed 11-42 maybe it would make pedal kick easier.

How critical is it to master the track stand before attempting this skill? I'm asking because I see that you do not wobble around, but when I try it I'm unable to hold my balance from tipping over the side.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 2 года назад
When I first started, I learned this before trackstands. However, that extra level of balance and bike control that comes from trackstanding will make this whole process easier. Not required, but helpful. I’ve got a trackstand video (“Trackstand Forever”) on this channel if you want to check it out!
@Adileigh24
@Adileigh24 2 года назад
@@SuperRiderTV I can gracefully trackstand like a pro, forever, even eyes closed… but not with my wheel straight. I can roll to a stop and keep the wheel straight, but as soon as I lose balance, that wheel automatically turns. How are you able to trackstand with the front wheel straight?
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 2 года назад
Lifting the front wheel up and putting it back down is how i do it. I can’t balance with the front wheel straight for more than a few seconds at a time before I have to lift it again. The “rocking” technique I mentioned was where it all comes from.
