This was a really interesting watch. Thanks for making this. It's so cool to see the behind the scenes of how you've refined your approach to make for a streamlined event that is easier on the host and enjoyable to your players. I'm a sucker for logistics so this scratched an itch for me. 😄
im from Brasil and i love this type of video ! please public moreee , im 20 years old adn do my first tournment with my friends ! poker its not too popular here, we dosent have tables (too expensive ) and good chips but a love this game!
DFW native here too. Love the video bro! I watched a bunch of videos, including yours, before I had my first cash game in March ‘22. This one really makes me want to have a tourney! Can’t wait for the next one! Keep them comin! Can you elaborate about specifics of the add-on?
For someone buying a poker chip set for the first time for tournaments what kind of advice do you have/ recommendations? How big should the chip set be for just a one table 10 people tournament? 500 piece set, 750 set or 1000 set?
Thanks for watching - I don't have any videos on it - however I did write this blog while I was building it. www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/building-2-new-tables-argyle-poker-night-thread.43334/
We shuffle behind, using 2 decks. Whoever just felt, shuffles his own cards, then when the hand is over, the dealer will cut the new deck to his left & oss to his right to start dealing the next hand, dealer who just dealt the hand shuffles for the following hand for the new dealer to grab them, cut them & pass to their right after their hand is over.
Hey Lance, love your poker videos! I will be hosting poker tournaments in the future and would love to know how your payout excel sheet works. More specifically the formulas you use the adjust payouts based on the number of players.
I noticed there a $5 pizza contribution being made 👍🏼,.. simple and makes sense. How do you handle alcohol? Do you simply not allow it during the tournament, is it BYOB, or otherwise?
Hey great video! I'm planning on building software that does tournament management better and would streamline your whole process. If I could get your input on what features to build, I'd be happy to make you the first customer and not charge you! Let me know, happy to coordinate with you
Man, I really appreciate the work you’ve done! I made my own tournament yesterday. I mentioned all the rules that you’ve noticed in your video. We got 10 players and 2 tables. Could you please tell me more precise about the rebuys and addons? I mean, I made it like this: unlimited amount of rebuys until the first 30 min break, and also made only one opportunity to add on at any time of the game. Or they can add on only after the break?? Anyway, thank you for your video. You made my day and I won the third place of that tournament I organise!
And also make my own notices that I need more chips (we have enough, but they are all different type). I need my own hdmi cable, cause the place didn’t have it’s own. I also can speed the blind system for 17-18 minutes, because after 4 hours there were 6 of us playing (of 10)
The add-on is only offered at the dinner break & this is when the re-buys stop. Someone with little chips left, can choose to surrender their chips at the break, re-buy & add on as well. After the dinner break is over, re-buys & add-ins stop. This way as a tournament director, your done, just play poker & worry about seats if you have more than one table.
I heard people don't usually use 50 denomination chips for some reason, instead 25 denom chips are more common. So owning a 50 denom chips is a mistake for me? I was buy a lot 50 denom chips😭
Yes, I wouldn't recommend or use a $50 chip. Depending on how big your cash game is, Id recommend a lot of $5's and $25 then jump to $100 chips. If you're doing a tournament, I'd skip $50's as well.
Wow the timing on this is just absurd! Such a great explanation! About Hosting, do you get any % of $ of anything( meaning a % of winnings even if you lose or any other comission ), and the 2000$ chips for arriving early, you, the host, gets them? Thank you!
Hey man, I hope you’re well. I really enjoyed the video but I have a lingering question. Why do you recommend 2 chips sets for cash and for tourneys? Is it just because you run a cash game with the tournament at the same time ( in which case I totally get it). Or is that not relevant. For example I host a night a week and every fourth night is a tournament. There is only one type of game at a time. Would you still recommend two sets, and if so why. Thank you in advance.
B/c I run them over lapping each other and the denominations are different. And it prevents sticky fingers or someone bringing in the same chips to your cash game. I would recommend them.
I've been hosting my cash and tournaments for a year with my friends and finally have bought a professional table last week, but always using the same chips in both game types. Why do you recommend to have different types of chips for either games?
So they don’t get mixed up with your cash set, your bank will be off & you’ll be in the hole. I also like playing with higher denominations for tournaments, 25,100,500,1000 etc.
Because I don't know who is all showing up to play, players sometime don't show or drop out last minute. I have to take out the Pizza, and we do add on money - too much for the App to take on.
@@One2ManyHobbies Should have guessed by the wood working shop in the background. Very nice table. Love the tournament structure. Wish I got invited to games like that 😂
Couple questions - Do you allow unlimited rebuys while a player is in? Do you use a specific program to have have people signing up early? Registering, paying and showing up. Can I email you for that excel sheet? Great video! Very informative, thank you..
Thanks for watching! The player must bust before re-buying and receiving new chips. The player must show up, pay and I check them in manually on a sheet I print out each tournament. Yes - send me an email.
@@One2ManyHobbies hey Lance, I saw another comment where you said that a person can surrender their chips and then buy back in at the dinner break. Why is this? As in, why do they need to surrender instead of being able to just top off? Thanks!
@@SethCorbinMusic because it’s considered a re-buy. In order to re-buy you have to loose your chips. I give players who have very few chips left to “loose” in order to re-buy & keep playing vs going into the next blind after break where they only have 2-3 blinds maybe.
Me personally, I may not right now but maybe in future. IMHO, people do buy Rolls-Royce. For most people that's just another costly car but for some who have the money and want the quality, they will shell out that extra cash.
@@One2ManyHobbies ok, thanks. But I think that I'll use just one table, for cash game but also for the tournament, also because I haven't a big house with a garage or a cellar. I mean, I know that for the cash game is enough only one table as you say, but I just say that my home is not big enough for many tables unfortunately, so I'll have to make do with just one table.
Anybody know how to install the pokertimer on a MacBook Air. I bought it but it will not download because it is saying that it cannot verify that there is no malware involved or something like that.
it is illegal for any person or organization to operate a game of chance or to play or bet on any game of chance that involves winning money, property or anything of value. Violators shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor. GS 14-292. You need to post a video of the cops raiding your home poker tournament or cash game, and hauling you off to the pokey.
A little intense for me. I guess with like 30 people it kind of has to be though to be well run. But set bathroom breaks and the inability to play with a buddy or even pick a chair is just a little more than I want for a chill poker night.
$80? i think that is a lot for me that is like 15 work hours when i host a tournament we play with a € 10 buy in works perfectly for us as the winner gets €100
