Hey Peeps! Another mini tutorial today, you've seen this very recently in the NL 6080 sew-a-long but it's a technique that can be applied to lots of other jackets so I thought I would make a stand alone video. I hope you enjoy.
I learnt this technique whilst following the Sewaholic Minoru coat sew-a-long and you can see it here sewaholic.net/m...
If you want to see the full sew-a-long you can find it here • How To / How I :: New ...

Thank you! This part of the directions on the pattern truly stumped me. I only needed the first minute of your video. Now the baby jacket is finished, thanks to you!

Another lovely teachable moment; great job again! You have a wonderful talent and make each method look achievable. Am sure that many beginner and intermediate sewists will have "A HA" moments. Have you tried this with knits? Although many people seem to have difficulties doing this procedure with knit blazers/ dress sleeves; I find that using a stretch lining works well. The secret is finding "good knit Lining". Thought you may want to try it and do a tutorial for all your subs. Some of my friends still shy away from lining knits. I still do the Hong Kong finish on my facing pieces. The secret is to cut all pattern pieces precisely so there are no wrinkles showing on the main garment. The other secret is to press well. (I use a piece of light colored silk organza to insure I press in all the right places without leaving a shine or "tell tale" impressions of the seam on the right side of the garment.) Cheers and happy sewing.

Hurray, I managed to do the first sleeve successfully! Then I tried the second one, boo, i done it wrong, had to unpick and left it overnight, so brain is fresh today to try again having unpicked the stitching. wish me luck!

After spending an hour trying to figure this out by reading the printed directions included with my pattern, I found your video. Thank You! this made so much more sense. I wish the pattern company had included a link to this video.

Do you tack the lining at the elbow area to keep the lining from twisting? I see it in men's tailored coats...

hello, i want to do this technique to my lined dress for a wedding in march 24, when you talk about the raw edge i understand that both fabrics are both folded. Also i ask if i cut 1/4 from the main fabric or just the lining? Thanks

Use a safety pin on the lining before you pull it through, no chance of it slipping, and no pokes!
