I've been wondering how to line a denim jacket because I want to make a denim jacket but embroider and embellish it prior to putting it together- and I don't want to see all the underside of that. Lining makes perfect sense. Thank you!
Well done! I have no sense of direction and always get in a muddle trying to work my way through right sides and wrong sides even when I’m following a pattern. Seeing it actually being done is much easier x
Genius! I absolutely love this video. It’s great to see someone else “making it up as they go along,” since I often do that, too. I spend lots of time “sewing” in my head, working out the steps when I’m imagining some details that I am adding or changing in a pattern. I'm about to attempt to line my first anything and have been 'imagining' how I might go about it. The pattern is for an unlined shacket and this video was such a confirmation of what I'd been thinking, particularly regarding the initial steps of drafting the lining pattern pieces! I've sewn two toiles of the Sorrento jacket pattern and I was thinking of making a corduroy version with lining. When I googled how to line a denim jacket your video came up in the search results and I thought, how perfect. This is a great video, and I'm looking forward to giving it a go.
Wow! I learned a lot, and I’m very grateful that you acceded to our requests and made this how-to/how-I video. Your process is very different from what I initially thought I would try, for example, I was going to make up the lining in all those little pieces, just like the outer layer. Now that I see how you combined the multiple pieces together so that the lining is in larger pieces, that approach makes so much sense! Why weaken the lining with so many seams, not to mention all that extra work. :) also I loved the non-intuitive-ness of the sleeve lining manipulations! Genius! Well done filming this one, it did not occur to me but now I’ve watched it, I realize it must’ve been hard to decide how to film this one to show all the points you wanted to highlight. I thought you did a marvelous job. Thank you very much!
How do you do all the hardware? Could you do a video showing us how to do all the hardware attachments. Could you do a video on how to do rivits, buttons etc.?
Thank you for that tutorial. Very clever. But here’s me 🤔 wondering: can’t one put the lining completely together - put it in the jacket wrong sides together and the do the collar, placket and cuffs etc. Am I overlooking something? (Apart from going off instructions)
That was my first idea but you need the sleeves flat to put in the continuous lap. Also the way the jacket is constructed you'd have to change the order of construction to put the lining in whole. 😊
beautifully made jacket, really useful video thank you. One question, as you have an inch extra in the back lining, do you need to pleat this at the centre back to get it to fit the bottom of the jacket or do you just ease it in and lose that bit off extra fabric across the bottom edge? Hope that makes sense
I made a black velvet "jean style" jacket and lined it with flannel. I thought it would be warmer, and it was. But, it is difficult to get on and off sometimes. *cringe*
