You’re welcome! I’m glad the video helped out. Another big tip, rather than going out in the morning. Get out there an hour before the sun is at its highest point and sit over a food source and you’ll have a lot more success on those really cold days.

One thing I never hear on these shows, and is something I found surprising when I went from seeing the little buggers all around town, to hunting for more wild ones, is that it pays big time to watch your scent. Try to walk into the wind. I found, especially in the fall when they’re all busy, they don’t notice little noises, but they will smell you coming and hide more. After decades of them almost surrounding me in parks, that was a surprise.
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors

Honestly, I have never paid any attention to the wind when squirrel hunting, but it makes sense for sure. I'll have to try this and see if it helps. Thanks for the tip!

This is a fantastic video, probably the best one I’ve seen on squirrel hunting, and I’ve watched many. I had my notebook out taking notes. I just started, been out 5 times, zero squirrels. Your video taught me that I’m not being patient. I get to a spot, wait 15 minutes, and then move on (facepalm). You also had great tips on where to set up. I knew about the nests, but I don’t pay enough attention to the trees with holes let alone pay attention to tracks and feeding holes. What is your opinion on using 2 quarters, banging and scraping them to mimic the sound of a squirrel cracking a nut? Great tips. I firmly believe that I am THE worst hunter in Michigan, but videos like this will certainly help me to shake that title even though I wear it well. 😁
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors 4 года назад
Thank you! I have heard about running quarters together to make it sound like they are eating but I have never tried it. It’s worth a shot. Squirrels are very territorial. When I was out I used that distress call and no joke that squirrel I shot came out of the his nest and gave me a 20 yard shot. I gave the call 3 blast...waited about 20 sec and gave it 3 more and then sat there and a few minutes later he came out. Good luck man and learn from each set up.

I use a .22 cal Benjamin marauder PCP air pistol converted to a carbine with a suppressor. Sub 80 decibels, accurate up to about 40-50 yards. Works great for squirrels, and they don’t run. If there’s multiple.

I appreciate this video a lot. I've recently gotten I to squirrel hunting with no luck yet. There are not a lot of resources with more than basic information most hunters would already know. This video talks about late season and squirrel calling which are two things I've been hard pressed to find information on anywhere.

I appreciate you watching and for the positive feedback. It’s been rough this year. In Michigan, we have had some really cold temps and deep snow which it making it extremely hard to hunt squirrels. So far, I gotten two squirrels total from my last 4 hunts. Pretty sad. We should be getting some warmer weather so I’m hoping they will start moving more. Good luck out there!

Man, that squirrel call is nice, but hot dog it's up to $85 now. That promo code is more valuable now than when you first posted the video. Between still-hunting and sitting I've only taken home about 6 squirrels, so I'm going to have to get a lot better before I can afford that one. Great video, though. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on targeting squirrel.

@@MichiganAmBushOutdoors I don't doubt it. Yours was the first call/calling that actually sounded like a squirrel to me. It's definitely on my wish list. The season just ended here in New York, so maybe I'll get it by fall. Just creep really slow and listen. Look for them to have their tails curled around their back soaking up the sun. The slower you move the more you see. Make no noise. East to take a few in one tree. Nice video. Thanks. In rough lands, I head shoot them out to 55 yards and closer. Walk with the sun in their eyes.
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors 4 года назад
Thank you. It funny you say that about the tails curled up. When I was editing my video I told my self That I should have mentioned that. It took me a long time to start looking for that in the nooks of trees.

@@MichiganAmBushOutdoors Also love to hunt grey squirrels in Shawnee late fall. Usually they are on the ground getting nuts. I walk so slowly and silent. When its real dry and leafy I can move slow with an unrhythmed creep and sound like another squirrel foraging. I have had drawn them in this way. I cant sit. Hunt the way in and out last year and took 5 under 40 minutes last year down there.
@Dutch1722
@Dutch1722 4 года назад
@@MichiganAmBushOutdoorsI try to move as slowly as possible. And look for flater contours to walk sloping rocky forested areas and I listen a barking squirrel can give away that there are a cache of others in the area. I am looking for those too in my approach. I used to try to quickly cover ground to find the barker, only to be skunked by ones I didnt know about. They move quiet and slow gives you a chance to catch others on the way to the barker. Look slowly 180 degrees as you step...if you can see em before they see you. You got em. Wished I had the umphf to video. I use rimfire and airguns.

It’s a custom made, hand crafted squirrel call, and not some cheap China knockoff. It’s going to cost more, but you’re getting quality, buying American, and buying Michigan. Win, win, win. I’m sure JPO probably stands behind their product 100%, and that’s worth something too.
