Getting a fake memory card can be a real downer. Not realising it's a fake until it's too late is even worse. Follow this videos tips for determining if you have bought a fake memory card or not. Here's some genuine Samsung SD Cards from Amazon ► geni.us/hTOi

I did receive a refund for the Fake Samsung Micro SD Card, so I agreed not to name them. Just be aware, I checked the sellers feedback and several people had reported the user selling fake memory cards. So the moral for me and others is to always check feedback and if someone else mentions a fake memory card, then steer clear of that seller.

Another clue, mentioned in the comments... Check to see if the "Made in..." on the package is different than on the back of the microSD. Apparently fake package says "Made in Korea" with the enclosed fake microSD saying "Made in Taiwan".

What puzzles me is, why do they even try to sell fake crap like this? Eventually people will find out, sooner or later.. and unfortunately will even loose precious picture and video when using it in a mobile phone. This just shows utter dumbness on the part of the wanna scammers... SMH! Guess the best thing to do is be proactive, and run the H2Test on every single card regardless where it was bought at.

I bought Samsung 32gb (class10) MicroSD memory card similar colour packaging (the fake one you showed) from ebay for £6. Nothing triggerd me to think that it was a fake card apart from your video. The print on the card and packaging looks very clear and accurate to me. Though on the back of the card said Made in Korea and model number ended up with CN as well. When I inserted my card in the slot, it showed 29.4gb available space and I ran the H2testw. Test went very well without any error. Writing speed was 18.1MByet/s and Reading speed 30.0MByet. I took the screenshot of the test result but there is no option to upload it here with the comment. Do you think its fake? N.B: forgot to mention that side of the memory card is also black. NOT WHITE.

This is from a message from Samsung "Our SD Cards used to be only made in Korea, but about a year or 2 ago, we opened a factory in the Philippines for SD Cards as well. So modern Samsung SD Cards will either say Made in Korea or Made in the Philippines."

Great test and a good video. Only thing I don't understand is that you are not willing to tell the name of the seller as it is a fraudulent seller. You are willing to tip Ebay, etc... Then also make his name public. You gave him a chance to react on this, so it's not that he doesn't know.

I bought a FAKE just recenlty from Ebay (in fact I've had two in as many weeks off Ebay) a 128gb Samsung Evo Plus and a SanDisc Extreme Pro 128gb The Samsung you mention here ticks every single fake box on your video. Something else I noticed too, ulike my other Genuine Samsung SD Card that I have had for years, is that on my phone it only shows up as 'SD card' where as my genuine one shows up as 'SanDisc Card', I also notice that on the back of the Samsung SD Card itself (in tiny writing) so you need a magnifier to see it, it says Made in Taiwan (and Made in Korea on the packaging) Also both fakes say 'your card is too slow. consider buying a faster card' in the Moto G4 phone. Thank you so much for this video, you have no doubt saved me from yet another fake. Incidentally the Samsung was only £9.99, fortunately I got the money back on this one, but still waiting to hear back from the seller that I bought the SanDisc from: that one was £29.99, so thought it would be OK, but it behaved in exactly the same way as the Samsung Evo in my phone - couldn't save anything to either - they just kept showing up as 'corrupted'.

Thanks for sharing. I recently received 4 -32 GB MicroSD Cards that literally had gold foil for the contacts. The truly sad thing is that they were sent here from the US and not shipped from abroad. The low life scum that did this should rot in data hell for the rest of their existence. I am not blaming all transactions that come from abroad, however, some jerk hole got burned and decided to create a flaming crap sandwich for others. Now I have to fight EBAY, Paypal and this bottom feeder for my money back. It takes time and that is time I lost. Of course they did not work, however, it made me test a few other cards I was suspect on for crashing in my devices or corrupting data. I used RMPrepUSB to test them and they were 8GB cards not the 64GB cards I paid for. For everyone else, spend the money through reputable places and not EBAY and get what you pay for. I have never got a bum card from Samsung direct, Dell, B&H, or Newegg. All buyers beware when you make purchases from suspect places. Sorry to rant on your post. Keeping making video's!
@martyb4815
@martyb4815 6 лет назад
FYI, Just got done talking with Samsung C.S. and they say that it's on the back of the card it self where it was manufactured. Only two places that make their cards, one is the Philippines and the other is Korea. Just because it's written on the box does not mean that's what's inside. Yes my package said made in Korea also, but made in Taiwan on the card itself. That's a good point about the edges being white. Something for sure to look for in the future. Thanks for that tip.

So I purchased a 126 GB Samsung micro SD and some parts of your video point to mine being a fake but other parts point to it being real. The lettering is crisp and centered. The adaptor says Made in China and even has the white samsung logo embossed on the back. The SD card itself says made in phillipines on the back. The only thing that tips me off is that the edges are black. Is it possible that it is just a unit that happened to pass through quality control with black edges or is it for sure fake if a unit has the black? It seems like everything else on it is perfect so I'm hesitant to write it off so quickly.

@TechWizTime

29.27GB sounds like a legitimate card. It's only when a few things add up that you should consider it may be a fake. The ultimate test is using the tools and testing the whole space available. If the test doesn't complete, that's a sure sign it's fake.

Samsung SD cards are mainly from Philippine and Korea. 8GB, 16GB and 32GB are mostly from Philippines while 128GB and 256GB SD cards are from Korea. No Taiwan or China made SD cards from Korea. Only adapter is from China, it even say adapter is from China.

Good video (I'm a bit late to watch!) What is annoying is I watched a video of some dude supposedly reviewing a Samsung 256GB EVO card, and saying how its no good etc... then we find out he got it on Amazon from some seller. That actually infuriates me just as much as the sellers of fakes! Samsung have exceptional standards for their products, so people whining on RU-vid should check they have the real deal before they try to soil the reputation of what are essentially the best SD cards money can buy! Cheers

I have a question... I just got a Samsung microSD EVO Select with 256GB. Everything matches what you said about it being real, except for one thing... The back says made in Korea... But I had to remove a sticker (which I didn't even notice that it was a sticker until I saw the edge of it.) But on the sticker was all the exact same info that was under it except the sticker said "Made in Philippines". While under it in that exact spot it said on the casing of the Samsung package, it says Made in Korea. I intend to test it tomorrow, I just wanted to let you know that it's passed all of the marks for the test you have set, just not the Korea part. It even says "Adapter made in China and guaranteed for one year" next to the "Made in Korea". So could the fakes just be getting better, or are Samsung really sending goods out of Korea now?

korea or philippines is an indicator of it being genuine if it is china or taiwan big indicator of fake samsung card. as samsung only has plants in south korea and philippines you will only ever get genuine cards from those 2 locations. also samsung has a patent on the white edge design for exactly this reason. further bad news you are not safe from sellers of repute amazon had a supply contamination in their own stock so it is literally gambling if you get a real card or fake... best advice is to test your card if it doesn't pass scratch and sniff test and a write + verify then return it.

The old adage "You get what you pay for!" certainly hold true with SDCards... Best advice is to buy it from a local big box store (forget online!), which will reduce the chances of ending up with fake cards significantly. As a tip, regardless of where it was brought from, simply run the H2Test on every single card to avoid being scammed. ;)

The problem is that buyers do a simple test, put it in their cell phone and then leave good feedback for seller. It may take weeks or months before they notice that some or many photos are missing. Photos like baby's first steps. dash cam video missing after an accident.etc, In the meantime, others see the good feedback and buy more.

There's a Samsung memory card authentication utility off of the Samsung website that verifies it. Use that. Upvote this so others see. Your package should tell you by saying "authentication available" with a check mark on back, which means you can check with this software when SD card inserted.

Hi, I have a question. I got this sd card from a seller and the package says Made in Korea and the code behind is also CN and not EU. The Micro SD has passed the test with this software h2testw_1.4 without any errors. Is this a good fake or the real one?

So having finally learned some German , I was able to download h2testw software and ran it on a suspect 64GB EVO plus card from eBay. Test finished without errors. You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again. Writing speed: 18.0 MByte/s Reading speed: 31.7 MByte/s H2testw v1.4 Are these good results, because the packaging says write speed of up to 60MB/s and read speed up to 100MB/s Is this 18.0MG/s software or hardware limitations ?

Prices will change as NAND becomes cheaper, but a general rule of thumb these days is $400 per terabyte or 40 cents per gigabyte for high performance parts. It can be as cheap as cents per gigabyte if performance isn't top. The cheapest you should go when getting a 128 gigabyte MicroSD card is $35. All pricing figures are based in the US dollar.

I'm confused. My mem is made in 'Korea', the adapter is made in China (1 year guarantee for adapter mentioned), punch hole through the card, white edges on the memory card and the bar code says EU (im from the UK). So apparently a lot of the signs indicating authenticity are there but it's made in Korea. Can anyone assure me I don't need to worry about it being unauthentic/original? Would appreciate an opinion..

I just got a fake (128 GB Samsung EVO Select) from FleaBay seller (elizabeth3q39-7). Before coming here and matching all of the stated qualities of a fake, it miserably failed speed tests (on hardware fast enough to produce much better results). The only thing not yet confirmed as fake is the actual capacity.

Me too man, was uding it on a hacked vita and everything was corrupted til I took it out and restored my data, thank God for back ups. I'm super pissed, but I should be mad at my self for not checking that it was in China.

Thanks very much for the info you saved me even opening the packets on two 32gb cards I had delivered yesterday. E-mailed the e-bay 100% positive seller he did not argue just said send them back for a full refund. Thanks again. Mike.

In the rural town of Kroonstad, South Africa there is a large Chinese shop. I recently bought a box cutter from them and the Chinese lady stopped peeling printed stickers off a roll and pasting them onto unmarked light blue USB memory sticks in order to process my sale. The labels being pasted on the USB sticks said 16Gb Kingston USB complete with the Kingston logo and Kingston branded carded plastic bubble packaging.

I have also had similar problems with pen drives sold at very low prices. Having much less capacity, and failing to write files even though the software reported successful write. I am also suspicious about items at very low price with very far shipping dates and wide range of arrival dates. They never arrive. If you contact the seller they react very apologetic asking to wait a little longer please. I have agreed and it doesn't arrive. Contact again and they said they will ship another item. Finally, at the end they issue a refund. This happened enough times to be a noticeable pattern. To me is a tactic because some buyers at developed countries don't care to track items of very low value. But the currency exchange rate makes it significant for the seller at one of these third world countries. They are betting on the chance that buyer will not remember the purchase or won't take the time to reclaim or even won't know how to use eBay features to follow up. They keep the money and don't deliver. I contacted eBay to inform this tactic, but I believe there is nothing in the eBay system to detect the scam. What I do is not to buy memory devices at ridiculous low prices.

The fake you got has the correct number font, most fakes I've seen have a different number font which makes these fakes easier to weed out. Never purchase Micro SD cards online without being able to see pics unless you are buying directly from Samsung or Sandisk, way too many fakes in the wild. Ebay has a load of fakes right now, if seller uploaded non stock pics, you can kind of tell if the SD card is fake by looking at the card and packaging.

Why did you not report the seller? You're complicit in them selling further fake cards. Even more so if you don't get a refund.

Why was, "Made in Korea," a tip-off to being counterfeit, when Samsung is a Korean tech company? That's like saying that a Nikon or Canon is fake because it said, "Made in Japan."

I bought several sdcard and everytime they turned out fake ,I found on the 64gb if I put more than 7gb on card it corrupts the files .I bought another one from a new seller and exactly the same if fact everytime I would buy a new one from different people not all from ebay but they turned out corrupt, I can only assume the whole of Europe and Asia is infected with thousands of them in the end I spent over two hundred GBP on cards only to trash them .Its not one make I tried all the top and some cheap and no where was spared .in the end I bought from a over priced shop but it was alot cheaper than buying a card 5 or 6 times

well, problem is... there are scamming ebay/amazon sellers who use a fake photo of the card and ship out the fakes so you have no idea until you receive it. The other sign of possible fakeness is price as in.. if its ridiculously low priced.

I got a card off ebay (a 64gb Evo with a 60MB/s write speed and a 100MB/s read speed) - was a bit sceptical at first as it was about half the price of the ones sold in store but I guess curiosity got the better of me and I bought it.... I've done the tests you mentioned and the speed seems to be fine when writing/reading on the computer, however when I use the card in my drone to shoot in 4K in 100mbps (approximately 12-13MB/s), I keep getting errors and the drone will stop recording saying the SD card is too slow. Out of all the other things you mentioned, the only thing different from my packaging to what you mentioned is the "Model Code" next to the barcode. Mine has /APC - different from the "official" ones and also different from your fake one being /CN. Seeing as this video was made about 2 years ago, no doubt counterfeiters watch videos like this and improve their fakes........ what do you think the chances are that mine is a fake?

A few months ago I bought a 128GB samsung microSD card for less than a quarter of its original price (what a steal, right). when i used it, it could only read and write up to 10GB and whatever it stored in the available storage, it became corrupted. fortunately the seller (lazada) refunded me. and as per your advice, i checked the packaging and saw that it says "made in korea"instead of "made in the philippines" (i'm from the philippines, so, yey!). thanks for this video, it will help me a lot in the future when i buy new memory cards (i only use samsung memory cards).
