Nice. Good you have a eye for those artifacts you behold. People pass them by all day. Keep finding great Native historical artifacts before the mixed into concrete for a parking lot
Been an avid rock collector my whole life.I recently(ok, you can laugh) figured out how the photo lense display works. It just bums me out that there's say 5 different types that will come up to match my rock, and they are all possibilities. Ugh. I used to just collect for unique or fossils, or keepsake from somewhere. Where I live now, I've come across native american tools. The Nanticoke Lenni-lenape hold roots here. Just recently exploring with my dog I discovered a cairn. It is not on historical sites. I'm not disclosing any information due to the fact the site that is known has been vandalized and ransacked. I too have an ax head shaped rock with a very predominant "X" on it.
From a fellow artifact collector I'm a little confused about what is real or not cause I see all kinds of things with different markings on them and I guess you have to have a keen eye for sure the creator has blessed me with many arrowheads I always put an offering to the creator before I start my journey back in time looking for the tools and spirits of the past to all that seek the knowledge of past be safe in your journeys
nothing shows grinding or pecking (hammering) wear. Your also orientating it in your hand wrong if its a pestle hold the fat end in the hand flat side parallel with your hand. But most of these are GEOFACTS not artifacts
Most of them are geofacts I agree as I have boxes of similar rocks..most that is..some of these do look man made..I never consider rocks from creeks or streams as artifacts only ones I find along with arrowheads scrappers etc..
As an archaeologist with over 40 years experience in the field, I can tell you that most of Bill’s finds are legitimate. Not all, but almost all are. He definitely has an “eye” for finding them, whereas, others without that ability, cannot perceive these objects with the same regard. It’s frustrating, because, to persons such as myself or Bill, it is quite obvious what is an artifact or not, while others who simply can’t “see” it in the same manner, will often dismiss it, which is a pity, but understandable none the least. Keep up the good work Bill.
All tools that they make fit your hands perfect I have found a ton of them on the creek I live on in pollock la,they were skilled at what they did we are lucky our tools sheds have dewalt and craftsman in them theirs had rocks and stick.
Hiya William, new subscriber here from Southern New Jersey. I live right across the Delaware river from Philly, and am always exploring my area. I need your help. I hope your still active and see this. Everyone thinks I’m crazy on Reddit. I did come in a lil crazy like I a now but I’m too worked up about what I found. Today was my first day finding anything on top of how cool it is too me.
Ive found dozens of manos and have seen many more in museums here in the Southwest. None of these, except maybe the round one near the end of the video, is authentic. Most are just rocks. You should not be looking for certain shapes or how well your hand fits into one. (Manos come in all shapes and sizes) Look for wear marks. I didnt notice wear marks on any of these except possibly the little round one I mentioned. Wear marks are very easy to tell. If its not perfectly flat on at least one side (the grinding side), its most likely not a mano.

@ Jamie Hamm ..... your best bet would be to search for Indian Artifact Shows in your area, and take these items there to get confirmation on the things you find. The items in this video are dubious at best.
I have read most of the supportive & harsh comments made over the years specific to the validity of the stone tools Bill displays in these videos and the general sense/descriptions of their purpose. I think we are fortunate to have these videos because the intent is to educate and the focus for most artifact collectors is not generally, on camp stones/tools, but arrowheads, spear points, perhaps axes,etc. I have spent a few years in the southwest discovering stone tools. They range from pretty primitive to remarkably clever. I am an extremely discriminating amateur and know that none of us can be right in all ways re: all artifacts-there are just too many variables and we will always have to guess at some aspects of unique looking tools and their function.I am sure of this however, much of the TRUTH in learning/knowing stone tools comes from 1) experience in the field 2) where they are found and what they are found with 3) FEEL and the ERGONOMICS- you have to hold them to know them!- generally, but NOT ALWAYS with wear-depending on the tools use, age,environment, etc. they can easily vary from nearly destroyed/disfigured globs to remarkably smooth, polished gems-with experience you will be nearly 100% certain if what you are holding is a geo-artifact, or a man/woman made finished artifact 4) the types of stone tools in the locale/field area you are finding -typically, the sizes will range from VERY large to micro tools-it is imperative you train yourself to identify every size of tool-the range is huge and many smaller/micro tools are never identified-this takes a lot of time, thought and eyeballs focused on the ground 5) distinguish between tools used in food preparation-grinding, for instance, light pounding, working skins-and the myriad other camp tasks required -Native Americans required a WIDE RANGE of tools for many different purposes as Bill clearly shows in his videos 6) not all tools were created equal-I have some that are glorious works of art-others much less so, and yet, with an understanding of characteristics and thoughtful flexibility, you will get better at seeing and feeling the creativity and unique design features that make stone tool technologies so fascinating.
JP Pestana you have no idea what you are talking about ! There is so much crap out there about artifacts . The true artifacts that are out there will stand for them selves... No body needs bad info that you are spewing out . Dude get an education on what you are talking about ... stop misleading people ! Give true info or nothing at all . You really make your self look stupid .these rocks you show are natural rocks and not artifacts.
many a natural occurring stone from the creative period have been taken and shaped into many a different type of tool designed to use for specific works' as mister Shira points out' its nice that there are some people who have the ability to recognize shapes' angles' patterns' etc that does not occure natuarally' and then using logic' they can determine its likely purpose' the mind of a science proffessional.. some' certainly not all are born with it' thanks lots for your insight Mr Shira.. would love to share with you some of what I have found.. many so much alike to what you have found...
These are plain rocks tumbled in water there are tons of these laying around if they were used so much there would be wear on the pressure points & not uniform in feel there is no pecking or polishing on these average rocks
With great respect, have you had any of these verified by archaeologists? These appear to be simply rocks...perhaps have been tumbled in water over time....but I thinks it’s a stretch to ID them all as actual tools....just my opinion after 40 years of collecting...
I keep thinking I'm crazy, but you're seeing and picking up EXACTLY THE SAME things as I am! So on sheer statistics alone, it's not coincidence or of some scientific geological explanation for a very high number of different shaped rocks to be found but only in specific areas but not ones that would be normally primarily grouped due to geography or topography...if that makes sense at all. Do you live in Idaho? Do you have an email or website contact? I'm totally fascinated with this. I have these things coming out my ears! But I'm very uneducated about it. I don't like looking for arrowheads. I don't have the patience. I do bottle digging...but I'm surrounded here with this stuff. I have questions. I'd love to talk to someone further. Until then, I'll keep watching so as to know I'm not nuts with what I'm seeing everyday. Lol. Very fascinating. Thank you.
Strange..I live in western Pa and have boxes of the exact same looking artifacts but made from different lithographic materials..but I find them in the same fields as arrowheads..I do keep an open mind as to geofacts but the coincidence as you say of having the exact same stone shapes n sizes is indeed thought provoking when I have the same things 2,000 miles away..

William...I'm sorry but you have nothing there. I have studied American Indian culture almost all my life. I just donated an extensive collection of artifacts to the Oneida Nation. I will make a video for you of what's left of my collection so you can see what real worked tools look like. What you have are natural creek and field stones.
Wish I would have seen your videos when I first started looking for artifact. Found several thing that I know now were made by Indians, but just tossed them aside. I did manage to keep a few, but not sure what they are. Would love to have you take a look at them.
I have these on my property too, and my house (at least 100 years old) was built on top of a dump! Does that tell you anything about the rocks this guy is showing here? Maybe he can email you one of those rocks ~8^)
Today on my walk i noticed a few circles cut into thirds. They were nice and round and i thought they broke perfectly that way, but now that i think about it, it is possible that it was an artifact. I should go back there with someone one day because today i found WET FUR on my favorite trail, than an actual black animal running, lol so i ran as fast as i could out of there. Than i realized i lost my phone so i had to go all the way back lol, i found it by the river where i was scearching wow. Lol
By making videos with fake artifacts, all you are doing is helping assholes on ebay scam people with other bullshit rocks like this. I mean seriously man why do you make such claims? If you try to make a stone bowl by peck and grind or stone axe you will see what the different stages really look like while under construction. You will know what the damage on the tools i.e. hammerstone and smaller pecking stones look like after little to heavy use. Try to make a mono by peck and grind, how about a metate. Try flintknapping and percussion flaking to understand how stone breaks and how they dont break, try using bone vs stone tools or cheat and use copper. The point is you must work with the stone before you can fully hear what it is saying, and the stones in this video are not saying much.
I agree that fake artifacts should not be presented. However, should people be buying artifacts on Ebay? Just a thought! I think we all know the answer to that.
I think sometime we want them to be something when it's really nature made. Yes if used for grinding they would be very flat and very smooth. Hmmm~ I don't think so.... sorry

i think your grasping at stones....i see no polishing on any of them .i found many stone tools an they all have polishing on the business end of the tool
i met a guy like this years ago. He was 'artifact' hunting in a creek when me, my brother, and cousin walked up on him. We asked him if he had found anything and he said yes. Then he started showing us his 'artifacts'. We looked at each other and didn't say a word to him about his 'artifacts'..... ALL of them were natural. He told us he had found an axe and put it in his truck, so we went to look at it. It was just a sharp piece of jagged rock that had no indications whatsoever that it was manipulated by a human. Just natural rocks. Why do people like that even exist? Real artifacts aren't that difficult to find, so why even entertain the thought that a natural rock is an artifact?
Heck of a lot of self willed ignorant people for whatever reasons' weak shallow? Most of these are just rocks, you should give a better context to where you found them to aid the novice collectors...stratified terrace wash, fields, river sides ect.. can't hear your tutorial very well.
