Root rot is probably the number one killer of house plants and it all stems from new plant parents not having the experience yet to know when to water their plants.
Watering most plants is really more about giving them a good soak and then letting them dry out to a level just before they stress due to lack of water.
Some of the signs that your plants may have root rot is wilting of the leaves, a foul smell, and/or darkening and mushy roots.
And really the only way to determine if you have root rot, it is to look at the roots by either removing the pot or having clear pots and being able to see it from the outside without disturbing the roots. The clear pots will also allow you to see the soil and help you determine when to water.
It’s always better to catch root rot before it gets out of hand.
