I have to say you bring the game to the next level. There are many channels around but yours stands out in a magnificent way. The respect and thoughtfulness is a great part to your approach to fishing and the fact that you share and spread this information is also fantastic. Great job Billy, i cant wait to finish watching all you videos and waiting for that Co.Cork episode :D. All the best, see you on the beach!
Another informative video. Definitely will be using this method. Much more humane, and if the fish tastes better it’s “win win”. Congratulations on being brave enough to show this on your channel. All the others I’ve seen shy away from this emotive side of fishing. Thanks, Keep them coming
Every one is afraid of losing views or sub's, it's a fishing channel!!, No names, but one of the big channels, the guy showed how to kill a fish , using a a fish he killed off camera, how stupid is that 🤔 thanks Brother 👍😁
To clarify Billy refers to the wire as "titanium" but actual titanium wire would not serve at all -- what he is using is Nitinol, a titanium/nickel alloy. If you're going to buy some you want the "superelastic" variety with minimal memory. Also, great videos Billy, some of the best fishing content on the Tube...
Well ya learn sometime new everyday... Never heard about this with fish in all my years.. but it makes complete sense... Great info.. Well done ... Keep it up
I will indeed do this in future.... I've only stopped watching some of your great videos etc... For the last 4 hours... Had to stop you have my home in bits... dragged out some rod and gear I haven't seen for 3/4 years .. Do still love my 525 mags ... Will try and improve my casting always put off by pendulum, but definitely going for it this time, only seen your videos by change... No choice... Hooked now.. Tight lines and thank you so much... Absolutely brilliant stuff
New subscriber, just going through your previous stuff, this one is a gem. Very informative and interesting, thanks Billy keep up the great posts. All the best Chris.
I did Billy, currently binge watching your vids, learning plenty, laughing plenty too. Top man. Gonna get some mussels, try the frozen lug tactic and see how that goes. Peace out brother. ✌
Who could argue with what you say and demonstrated Billy, It's as humane as you'll ever get. Far better than leaving the fish to eventually suffocate or bash it senseless with an iron bar or rock. Great Information which I know I'll adopt in future if by chance I catch anything that is.😒 Loving the Vids and thanks for sharing them.
@@Billyfishing_watch Thanks Billy. I've just ordered 5mts of 0.8 mm of Titanium wire from ebay for £4.99. Well worth the few quid to do the right thing by the fish. I'll keep plugging away, one day I'll get that monster. 😁
I have aiways been a avid believer of dispatching fish to be taken home as soon as possible. Im glad you've done a video for it and i hope anyone that wasnt doing that they will. I find people after mackerel are the worst just throwing them on the beach behind them to bake and ruin in the sun just a waste they aren't real anglers Thanks Billy your a star.
The problem is, most people don't even know why they fish! It is genetic memory. Just like a dog chase's a stick, we fish instead. And if you are in tune with nature. Respect and nurture it, then you will be rewarded, thanks Brother 👍😁
Up the Dubs . Hi Billy watched the Hook light house video last night really enjoyed it , have been down to Slade Habour thats beside the Hook twice but cought nothing yea all about timing . keep up the good work . Have a moblie home outside Arklow so blessed with so great areas to go fishing . regards Pat
brother billy thats good information mate and your right the fish taste so much cleaner after b.l.e.e.d.ing out , take care on them rocks tight lines billy
Thanks Billy respect for using this method and also putting it on the channel. I'm quite inexperienced and wasn't sure the best way to kill the fish quick so this is very useful.
@@Billyfishing_watch Much appreciated! Do you ever get back to Ireland to go fishing? I'm a North Dubliner myself, currently living in London so would like to fish a bit more when I get home and have easy access to the coast.
Great video! Been looking into this method and this was the best how-to. Glad to see it also works on flounder. Do you have to change the entry angle of the brain spike with different sized fish?
Hi bud, and thank you. Yes you do, the bigger fish I have extremely hard skills so you have to go in at a steep angle, and then change to a more shallow angle and then move spike around to disperse the brain. See you on the beach 👍😁
Muchas gracias! Estaba buscando como hacer el priceso detalladamente, y como hacerlo sin un kit de ikejime caro y tu video ke resolvió las dos cosas, muchas gracias
Great video Brother Billy! I got the idea of what you were on about in your other recent video, but it doesn't hurt to watch it again. Wasn't that the spot where your mate Mr Mink lives? !! Stay safe & well mate. 👍👍
Interesting video Billy. I've brain-spiked my fish for ages, usually on a piece of foam so they don't damage themselves and spike them using the tip of my knife. I cut their throat, break their necks and pop them straight into ice water. Never directly onto ice. I do have a spike like yours for bigger fish. I have never seen the wire technique before - but it makes sense. I'll try it and see if it makes a difference to the flavour.
Hi Gav. Where's the pic's bud, love to see some OZ fish. The spikes are easy to mack out of a screwdriver, using a Grindr. What ever size you like. As for the taste, some people say it doesn't change. But I think they're not doing it properly. For me it makes all the difference in the world, give it a go. If you need a link for the wire I'll send it to you. Thanks Brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch - I wish you were with me last night mate. You'd have loved it. I was chasing mulloway off my local beach & instead scored a stack of little bronze whalers. Kept one to eat (provided eight delicious meals). They fight like a demon right to the sand. Never get tired of the first run - the line makes a roosters tail as they tear off towards NZ. Have to take a camera next trip. The little sharks make the drag on my Shimano Big Baitrunner really sing.
hi billy, might sound like a dumb question but do you recon this would be possible with a thin baiting needle only? going fishing today and dont have the tools at this time, cheers bud
You can also pass the wire through the small hole on top of the vertebrae where you cut the tail if you are having a hard time getting the wire through the head.
@@Billyfishing_watch Ahhhh now I get it. You really need to try keeping an angle as parallel as possible to the spine when braining the fish. Makes sense I was having a hard time since I was spiking the fish at an almost 90° angle on top of the eyes lol. Couldn't figure out why it was so hard to curve my wire after inserting it looool. Thanks man
never done it. but hope to try it out. But I did learn from another video that the wire part has a separate name, shinke jime. I do not even know if that is actually true because I do not know anything about inke jime beyond trying to learn what it is here and in other videos. But I still commented it anyways.😅
Hi Nozrep. I'm sure the Japanese have a separate name for it, but it's not necessary to know the name to learn the process. And too much information is the same as too little. Thanks buddy 👍😁👌
Technically yes it is possible, but I haven't tried it. Before you attempt it do some research into shark and ray anatomy, so you can pinpoint the position of the brain. Otherwise you might cause the fish unnecessary distress when killing it. Make sure it is dead before you try to bleed it or pass the wire 👍
When I cut the tail the fish is bleeding, but the wire is the first. If you want for the fish to finish bleeding, it's too late. Thanks Paul, fish on 👍😁
hope ya "enjoyed" it ..... :) wasnt really enjoyable, but very informative :) Thanks for the video, i might try this, but i'll probably shit out hahaha, hitting em on the head is a lot less dramatic :P
It wont make you're fish taste better it will preserve the fish for longer and taste better in the long run but if you are eating the fish in the first few days of catching it this will have no effect on the taste of the fish.
Nope it makes it taste better. I’ve been on a boat were I’ve do this and also been given fish by people who have let the fish flap about on the deck. Mine taste and look better
I would much rather see a fish killed quickly and humanely than see someone fillet one when it is obviously still alive. And I've just ordered a nice ice pick to use myself.
@@Billyfishing_watch I'll buy that. But I'll also go on to say that the time and effort needed to process fish this way is greater than the subjective improvement in taste. But good demo anyway!
@@Billyfishing_watch Well, natch. All I'm pointing out is that I don't think the extra effort is equal to the relative improvement in taste. I'll keep it efficient, as Lord knows there's already a lot in fishing to pay attention to.
As it goes it's not just the taste that improves. It will make the flesh last longer as well. It is a technique the Japanese used to prolong the shelf life of food. Is retards the growth of bacteria and other harmful mechanisms. And honestly it doesn't take very long. It only takes me about 10 seconds to complete the process. When I'm not making a video!
