As a biologist with a lab research background, this is fascinating and I don't see it as a failure whatsoever. You managed to capture mycelium inside the box. I'd mix up, rehydrate it with a spray bottle of distilled water and place it somewhere in dark moderate temperature to develop further. Not all colonies bloom fiercely. However, mold loves to spread and there's more than enough there to get something started. Thanks for sharing this process done in a traditional way.

I've been implementing this technique in redford michigan for years and I'm finally seeing result. The soil was destroyed in my area.. The salt every winter doesn't help at all. Huge obstacles to overcome.

@@WookofWallstreet It's great to hear that this method is fruitful. Your cold climate shortens the growing season, coupled with salt... It takes a lot of positive inputs to counter those concerns. Thanks for chiming in... There's lots of wisdom in these comment sections.

Wonderful video chris. This is probably the most difficult product to get consistantly. Thats how nature works. Want to add something here. While you have demonstrated how to find natural leaf mold in the forest and collect it in the rice, many viewers would be wondering what to do if they have no access to forest leaf mold nearby. Our teacher taught us an alternative. 1. Drench the soil to be used for collecting IMO using LAB or rice wash water (this should be preferably under the shade of a tree) 2. Dig it a little (one or two inches) 3. Place the collection box in the shallow depression with cooked rice loosely spread out (You have shown this clearly in the video) 4. Cover the box with straw, leaves and other organic matter and wait for a few days till the fungal mycelia form. Its always worked!!!

@@annsiguenza9108 Its easy. Make LAB solution. Soak dry leaves in following for 24 hours. LAB:salt:brown sugar: water 5:1:3:1000 Keep it in shade, lid covered In 24 hours you will see lots of bubbling Longer soak is also OK upto 48 hours, or just wait till the bubbling dies down Remove the soaked leaves and keep in shady place covered with a sack to prevent moisture from evaporating, or just a plastic drum and cover the lid Within five days the leaves turn black and full of mold. You can use this mold to extract IMO-1. It works great This is the quickest way of making leaf mold.

Hey Chris, just discovered KNF and I'm blown away. Grew up with many natural farming methods but this tops them all. I'm in!!! I have one question that is concerning me. Maybe I'm overthinking this but... I'm in Central California at an elevation of about 3000 ft. At his level the forests are really full of Amanita Phalloides. Death Cap mushrooms. They like the oak trees. The forest is mixed. If I am collecting from this area are these death caps a problem? Should I go higher up into the pines? The area I am in is very rich in mycelium.

Hi Chris, a big thank you for all these great videos you're sharing! I am super excited to start KNF though a bit overwhelmed. I've one main Q regarding getting started. Our land in Hillsboro, OR is almost wetland, and its probably not going to stop raining till the end of june. the PDF manual says dont collect during the rainy season (ours is almost 9 months long) and makes a mention of bringing materials into a greenhouse to collect IMO. can I collect IMO from our land, maybe from mycelium growing in arborist woodchips ive been spreading here for years? im hoping i can collect samples from a few different spots and bring it into my greenhouse to start the collection. It seems if I go 200m up in elevation i'd be in a completely different habitat than our land.

This may be a silly question - hopefully someone knows the answer. Is there any reason this process wouldn't work with soaked, but uncooked rice? @biomei.solutions
@biomei.solutions 7 лет назад
+Chris Coombs you are American. It is our tendency to 'improve' or make it easier. The thing is, your worm castings have nothing to do with the process of IMO1-2... if you want to use those then just skip IMO1-4 and apply vermacompost to your garden... If you make up a process name it the 'Coomb process' :) Its just not Natural Farming. There are parts of what is being accomplished in this process that you don't understand. Changing it without understanding, makes it kind of pointless to follow it at all. The key we are going for is the diversity of nature. What has been create in the soil ecosystem (the soil food web) over a hundreds years of being undisturbed is really valuable. If you can get that established in your crop land it will be to your advantage for disease resistance and abundant production. What diversity does your worm bin have? Only what is on the material that you personally have added since you started it... enjoy the journey man :)

Hi Chris, I love your work. Thanks a lot for this great videos that you share with a world. One question, is it OK to post few pictures of your work on my web site? I would love to promote this great knowledge in Serbia and i would like to write about IMO and whole procedure of making it. So I was planing to snip few pictures from your RU-vid Chanel and post together with a text. Let me know if is ok, or not. I would understand if you say no. Thanks for everything you are doing.

this is all fascinating and i'm getting into this as though my life depends on it but however, how do you know that your not also cultureing breath and skin microbes? thank you
@Jpmcfly209
@Jpmcfly209 3 года назад
Well you could technically. But the hope is all the good microbes from the forest will take over and over populate those other microbes

can you get lactobacillus from whey that's strained off of yogurt? I'm left with a bunch of whey after I make my yogurt...curious as I can't find a definitive answer
@biomei.solutions

+chill 22 yes, that is generally LAB, however if you are using a yogurt 'seed'/inoculant then it isn't "indigenous", there is a strength from collecting and indigenous strain for use in the garden/farm.

I am not handy enough to make a mesh box to put the wood box into. Could you give a short video on how to assemble the mesh box and the wood box?

Can you tell us or at least point us to reference materials where we could know what biology is what color and what that means to our collection? I've tried to collect IMO1 and all my 10 collections either has different colored biologies (yellow, orange, pink) and some with the same color as yours, some with black, and my first try watered.

Wouldn't cooking the rice with LAB and FPJ kill the beneficial microorganisms in the LAB and FPJ? Have you tried applying it after the rice has been cooked?

hey man. I just took my IMO1 from the bamboo forest. my IMO was greenish white. not sure if it was because I used white corn (cooked) instead of rice. I left another container but using rice instead.
