This video is so helpful! We are flying our dog from Brazil to the US in October so under the new guidelines. It appears we have to get a broker and a contracted company who will pick our dog up at the airport and take her to a bonded quarantine facility where she will be kept overnight. The following day a USDA Vet will examine her and administer the US rabies vaccine. After that CDC release is requested and broker will take care of Customs clearance and once received our dog will be released to us. So unfortunately the process seems to be getting more complicated and expensive.
@PAWDEGA
@PAWDEGA 3 месяца назад
Hey Charlotte, thanks for your comment! Yes, the new guidelines go into affect from Aug 1, 2024. However, everything in this video still remains the same of your dog is flying into the US from a high-risk rabies country and they have also been vaccinated outside the US. The additional requirement is now the pets will need to be vaccinated at the Port of Entry. Yes, if you are using a broker then this would further increase the cost of service. If you're able to have the import permit issued before Aug 1, 2024, then you would then have until Aug 31, 2024 to import your dog under the current rules. We'll likely make a new video about this
@CharlotteHesterberg
@CharlotteHesterberg 3 месяца назад
@@PAWDEGA Thanks for your response. We were told we have to use a broker by the quarantine coordinator. It's probably worth the money to have the peace of mind in our case. We are unable to move our dog, Izzy, before August 31 unfortunately. If we had been aware of the new guidelines a few months ago we would have made a point to fly earlier.

Thanks for the video guys! I found it really helpful. I’m trying to ship my dog via cargo from Indonesia(Jakarta) to SFO before end of July 2024. To give you a lil bit of background, so far we already have him microchipped, done his titer test, and still waiting for the CDC import permit to be approved. Would you recommend hiring a custom clearance agent in the US? Bcs I’ve heard custom clearance in the US esp for cargo it’s kinda complicated and some airports do require an agent. Really appreciate if you can give some tips on this, thank you.

Thanks so much for your comment 😊 If you have all the documents you need and have the import permit issued before 31.07.24 and you import your dog before 31.08.24, you should have no issues. We haven't flown our dog through cargo into the US, so I couldn't say if or how complicated it would be, but documents remain the same. I think the only complicated part would be trying to figure out where to collect your dog as this would depend on the airport you fly into. If possible, flying your dog as 'Excess Baggage' would be a lot easier than Manifested Cargo as far picking up your dog after the flight. The pro of having a clearing agent is that they could give you piece of mind during the clearance of your pet. Hope this helps, safe travels

Hey, Thanks so much for watching. Our dog is a French Bulldog and she weighed 12kg PLUS her bag weighed about 1kg. A lot of airlines have a weight restriction, but Air Canada did not have a weight restriction. They only had a size restriction. Our dog fit into this travel box: Soft-Sided Pet Travel Box: amzn.to/452eXXE. We flew with Air Canada, had a stop over in Toronto, and it all went well. We booked our ticket online and gave them a call to add our dog onto the flight in the cabin. I recommend calling them before you book online, just to make sure your dog can be added to this specific route. Safe travels :)

Hi thanks for your comment. If you're dog was vaccinated outside the US then yes you would need to follow all of the steps mentioned in this video. If your permit is issued after Aug 1, 2024, then you will need to take one extra step which is for your dog to be vaccinated for Rabies at the Port of Entry. You will need to fly into only 1 of 5 Airports mentioned in the link below and also make an appointment for this. www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/approved-care-facilities.html If you can have the import issued before Aug 1 2024 and fly in before Aug 31, 2024, this may save you a lot of money and stress. For us it, it basically took 45 days. If your dog needs a vaccination, then you have to wait 30 days before you can do the titer test. Then another 45 days after you get the titer test done. So it depends on if your dog needs to be vaccinated agin or not.

Hey! This is a great question, Thailand is considered to be a high-risk rabies country. Therefore you'd need to follow all of the steps listed in this video in order to return to America. I don't know how long your travel is but you'll need to have the Serologic Rabies test taken at least 45 days upon your return into USA. Technically the Seroligic Test can be taken in the USA before you leave the US. It would be valid for 1 year from the date the blood sample is collected from your dog. This could help if you'll be in Thailand for less than 45 days. Hope this helps 😊

Great question, it took about 7-10 days to get the results of the Rabies Titer test. Once we got that, we applied for the CDC Import Permit, at the time when we applied it took 2 days to get the approval to enter (this can take up to 8 weeks stated by CDC). The earliest we were able to enter was mandatory 45 days waiting period from the date titer test was taken. So in our case it took 45 days from the date the titer test was taken. So you'll absolutely want to get the titer test ASAP if you're looking to get to the USA quickly.
