I love the way you explain everything. I've been doing modern Dance (limon) and jazz Dance for 4 years now and I still can't do clean double turns, sometimes even one isn't really good. it's so frustrating but I'll Keep practising and I hope this helps.

Focus on balance and straight axis. Make sure your pelvis is straight up and down, and that your preparation doesn't throw you off-center as you go up. Then close your arm and spot in order to rotate. It's all balance, posture, and gravitational force.

I would recommend trying fouettes they are a bit easier (in my opinion) because u get to put your foot down as a prep to start again!

That is a good fundamental exercise. It is a balance, first and foremost, and pushing down to go up with a completely straight axis is the key.

Dear Miss Cheryl, I'm an adult beginner, may I know how can I hold longer for the relevé up. Each time I found it very difficult to raise up fully. What exercise I can practice at home to help? Thank you!
@RPMDance
@RPMDance 6 лет назад
First of all, don't think about lifting up in the relevé. Think about driving down through your legs and feet into the floor while at the same time keeping a higher level in the body. Think: Up to go Down to go Up. You can also practice doing for instance 8 relevé in a row then hold the last one to build strength in the legs and calves. Do this while holding onto the barre. - Then build up to more. If 8 is too hard, start with 4.

I also do rises at the barre or in the center to improve my ankle strength so that it becomes a lot stronger for me to get higher relevés that stay

My issue with turning is that I have always end up leaning towards one side and topple over that way. This usually happens to me in 5th position pirouettes (I can balance better doing turns starting in 4th)

Thank you so much for this. It's helped bring me some comfort. My hometown ballet studio had to close down, so I'm at a new studio and they're teaching their class pirouettes. My previous teacher was having me wait because she felt I wasn't ready, but I now have the expectation, from this new teacher, for me to start learning them. I don't feel like I'm getting the guidance I need there yet, so this really helped me feel better.

My triple pirouettes were okay when i was younger but then my newer ballet teacher (after old ballet director was fired and now its a secret to the studio) kept telling me i was terrible and i need to relearn everything so i tried and they weren't improving but now i kinda understand more.

Who did you study with? My teachers were Nina Stroganova and Vladimir Dokoudovsky, both from Olga Preobrajenska. This is the same technique. My problem was not realizing my pelvis was slightly tilted, and my legs were uneven in length, so I wasn't aligned properly in releve, and did not have enough control. We had a wonderful exercise where from fifth position with right shoulder diagonal to the mirror, we would do one pirouette en dedans, then one to the left en dehors, then one to the right en dehors, and one to the left en dedans. Or something like that. The other was to stand in fifth, do a grand battement ala seconde, plié and releve onto that leg, do one pirouette and hop, again to the left. Then two pirouettes and hop, then three and hop, etc., to strengthen the standing leg and ankle with the extra hops. The best dancer I ever saw do pirouettes was Laurie Ichino, a pupil of Tatiana Lichine. She did a contest with another student, and at 27 pirouettes, she was still perfectly balanced and in control, and could have probably done 32 if not 64!

I treat pirouettes as "the preludes to the fouettes". Turning on a pirouette--my two bits--are a bit like doing a "fouette" action. Once I do the prep for the pirouette, I would contract my body (tighten it) so that my spin is faster, and I spot my head as needed. My favorite pirouette variation is doing that with the lifted leg in "pique" position. My supporting foot in the turn will have to do some "releve" - if I turn with that supported foot flat, this distracts and mars the needed speed and timing in that pirouette.....

Yes Absolutely with the centripetal force/circular pattern being the impetus aligns your central axis is like pulling a string on a top you retain the circular energy pattern consistent

@dearr0semary

person practise just doing a relève with the correct position and try to fix your problem by leaning to the right a little bit more. I practise this a few times before doing some singles and doubles, triples etc. I hope this helps!

I sprained my left ankle twice last year and I'm struggling to regain my double turn on that foot. Any tips on how to make it stronger?
@alix2948
@alix2948 4 года назад
hey, I would suggest asking your teacher/looking online for exercises to strengthen your foot/ ankle. I got my ankles to be stronger by going up and down in relevé, and using a stretch band (a towel folded in half works fine too) to put my foot into and I pointed and flexed my foot to increase mobility and strength.

When I do my pirouettes, I don’t know if it’s because my legs are kind of turned out, I can’t keep my balance... I fall a lot and I don’t know how to fix it! Please help.
@RPMDance
@RPMDance 6 лет назад
Practice just doing relevé into retire and balance. Use two-way energy by driving down through your supporting leg while at the same time lifting higher in the body to create a stabilizing position. Engage your zippers as I have discussed on previous videos. After you strengthen your releve and discover where your balance and center of gravity is add a single turn.
