One thing ive noticed from playing that no one mentions in the videos is how much the tempo changes depending on what club youre using. You cant just practice tee shots and use that same tempo on a 7 iron shot or its gonna be too fast.
Yeah so true, it is very tough. Keep working at it and it will get better over time, but it never really gets easy. I would love if they added a number showing the percent fast or slow that you were, I think that would be very helpful
I find the swing timing incredibly difficult to master and get through an entire round without completely screwing up a few holes. I ended up just turning off the Timing in the settings and have never been happier
I find it very difficult too and hard to speed up or slow down a fraction. Haven't had a Perfect swing yet with a wood or iron. I tend to have a slow sing, so i aim left and let it cut back. However, if i happen to have a fast swing then I'm in big trouble cuz then it's going wayyy left 🤦♂
Yeah it is really challenging and takes a lot of time and practice to learn. Nothing wrong with turning off timing, that is how the original golf club game was and it was such a great game! Always use the settings that make the game fun for you!
I wanna play online and the calibration doesn't carry over to online play. Tempo is ruining the game for me. I want to play on the very hardest settings... I just want to swing where I'm aiming with my intended %
This is my first golf game since the first Golf Club game. I've had moments where everything is working like yesterday then this morning I couldn't find the tempo to save my life. I know it takes time to get that muscle memory but man when it goes sideways this game punishes you. That's good I guess as real world golf does the same. Great video man, just found your channel. 🤘🤘
Welcome on in Deuce_R6! Awesome to see so many people jumping back into a golf game after awhile in PGA 2K23! Yeah sometimes the tempo just seems to be lost some days, happens to even the best players. That muscle memory will kick in one day though and your consistency will be so much better! Keep having fun!
Just props to you 👏 for making this video. *This is the FIRST video I've ever seen that actually explains WHAT tempo is!* It's been so frustrating because I don't even know what it is that I'm doing fast or slow. Knowing it's the downswing that counts (which is itself confusing because we flick the stick up to downswing and down to upswing, should be the reverse). This video also validated that this is in fact difficult and takes a lot of practice. To be honest when I first got the game I just turned timing off because it puts me in Korn Ferry Tour on a tough course with 12mph winds, with a character who hasn't had any upgrades yet, I hit triple bogey on hole 1 and just went downhill from there it was a disaster. This game is SOOOO unforgiving with even the slightest timing error. And I'm even playing on the archetype with the 81 timing. I found that just getting some timing-based club fittings that got my timing from 81 up to high 80s improved things by itself a lot.
I played a lot of Tiger Woods on playstation 3 and was really good at it. This is a whole new level. Your comment on swing calibration is spot on. I was hitting a lot of fasts and I blindly believed that calibration would help. I have calibrated 25 times. Still the most difficult thing to do on pro settings. I have hit at least 1000 balls and still trying to get that elusive perfect. Swing plane is just as important because a perfect swing could go all over the place with bad swing plane. More range hours coming up. One small tip from a total hack, there is a green to the left of the range that is perfect distance with the driver. Instead of just whacking balls into the middle of the range use this green as an aiming point. Also, to the right is a green with a flag perfect distance for a 5 hybrid depending on wind. Keep hacking golfers.
For all the people out there that still aren't understanding it, here's some numbers to help. You need a back swing and down swing tempo of 3:1. They made this game accurate to real life physics of the golf swing. (This is for Pro settings) So your down swing needs to be between 3x - 3.4x faster than your back swing in order to hit "perfect."
Great video. I've been getting frustrated with my temp and one thing you mentioned is you stare at the back of the ball. I woke up this morning and tried that but out of the corner of my eye I made sure my golfers motion was nice and smooth during the transition. No long delays. So far this has worked. Keep the videos coming. You have great energy and you look like you're having fun producing content for us.
I wish the swing calibation would just register your speed and set it to 0. Despite calibrating so many times I still cant get the tempo right. It seems like it never actually changes. It would be more reliastic because everyone has a different swing in real life anyway. If I want to have a fast transition and downswing then let me calibrate that way. But no matter what it never seems to really change.
Thank you very much. I was having so much trouble hitting the ball. The advice about focusing on the ball has helped me a lot. I was focusing on the swing meter and shanking it all over the place. Thanks again. I like the game even more now.
There is a way to go back to default if you have done swing calibration. Go back to calibrate swing, do a few shots, then cancel swing calibration. This will reset (at least worked for me). Much different feel.
Thank you soooo much!!!! Man I swear I was hitting 25 over par before I saw this video. I looked at this video and the Lie Range video and I was finally able to get invited to the Korn Ferry Tour. I went from being in 145th place to 1st place lol 😂. I highly recommend to anyone new to the game. It’s like night and day now
What Up Ryan. About calibration: with the new game I tried the default tempo and fasted every shot no matter what. So I calibrated like I did in 2k21 and still fasting every shot. I watched a bit of Carpy's stream the other day and he went over how he calibrated his tempo. I tried it and it worked, I get a lot more perfects and slight slows or fasts. When in calibration mode: hit every shot as a very slow. And now I have a nice smooth tempo that works for me. Hope this helps anyone who is struggling. Do note that game still takes a lot of practice. A lot.
I'm on ps5 and there's no rhyme or reason to tempo. I turn temp off and my swing is within the white line everytime. Turn tempo on I'm all over the place
That's because you're adding power to the shot. Same as if you are adding shape or spin to your shot, it reduces the forgiveness for harder to pull off shots.
Never understood swing timing in this game. I started playing again yesterday since im off work for a bit and I forgot how much of this game doesnt actually translate to real golf. Swing timing should be all about matching backswing and downswing. You shouldnt need to club up 2 clubs out of the rough just to hit it 120 yards.
I caved and clicked on the notifications bell. Given how quickly you make them it’s the only way to guarantee that I don’t miss out on a video. If someone has chained you to the desk and is forcing you to pump out amazing content while pumping you full of coffee just communicate with us using a series of blinks!
LOL!!!! Let's go Matthew!!! Appreciate you man! Welcome to the notification squad! Yeah I am working hard to get as much content out for you all as I can!
I have to watch these now as for some reason when I loaded back in (Xbox S|X) my swing timing was absolutely broken. I played with being entirely too slow to rapid fire. Only results popping up was “Fast” or “Very slow”. Trust me I tried everything, I quit my game (was midway in a match) went to practice, hit over 50balls and all of them said “fast” or “very slow” I reset my career. I reinstalled the game. Nothing. So I was forced to calibrate. Now I practice before joining career to get timing back down pre match.
I have such a weird way of holding the controller for my shots it's insane: I hold my PS5 controller in my left hand the "long way" (spanning both grips), then swing the stick using my thumb, index, and middle finger all sandwiched up and I don't move my fingers or wrist at all, it's all elbow. But hey, I get results.
Your tutorials have been so helpful. Went from +23 on the first society event of yours that I played to -6 on last nights event. Shot -4 on Respawn's event and really should of been a lot better but I had some mishits and a spaz putt where I missed a easy 4' eagle putt. LOL
I keep coming back and trying to give this game a fair chance, but every time after I play about 1 round I'm over it and wind up back on EA raury mcilroy pga tour.
So I hit the driving range and practiced for an hour, and I thought I got pretty decent hitting the ball rightly 75% of the time, but then I took an iron in my hand... I'd be lucky, if I'd just hit the green 50% of the time. Every other time the ball goes to the beach, or swimming, or hiking... I probably messed up timing because I did perform calibration, because I didn't know any better
Games ridiculous, the slightest slow or fast and it just shoots off...the chipping is hard but a challenge. I dont understand the point of the adding things to clubs etc...it wasn't needed ,the character creation is literally non existent..they need to sort this game out fast...certainly not worth the £65 I paid
Another killer video. Question: Did you, or can you (even if its a brief explanation of each) How does Transotion. Timing, and Wing Path modifications to clubs effect the 3 click swing method. Thank You Sir
Thank you! So Transition makes it easier to hit the perfect and good power region for the first button hold down step in 3-click. The swing path area is the first click on 3-click, and the higher the swing path stat the bigger the good (grey region) and perfect (white region) regions are. The timing area is the second click on 3-click (the bottom one), and the higher the timing stat the bigger the good (grey region) and perfect (white region) regions are. Hope this helps!
I hate the tempo sometimes I'm on fire for the first 7 to 8 holes then I just for some reason hit the ball all over the place very slow or very fast yet I'm doing the same thing
I can't make the ball stay straight in the white line. My swing goes from bottom left to upper right. I've changed the controller grip many times and it's the same. I'm ready to glue a match book to my controller.
I have played golf games for many years and played the hell out of 2k21 the true fact is that on 23 the tempo is broken. I have a well established swing with thousands of hours practice but once you have calibrated on this game which I did then it’s game over. On my calibration I hit 10 consistent shots landing the ball in the exact same spot yet when testing after calibration high grey fast the purpose of calibration is to calibrate to your tempo but it doesn’t work and you can’t even reset to default calibration. work is definitely needed by the devs in this area. It’s all over the place at the minute imo and I’ve tried multiple times to re calibrate with the same inconsistent results
i have played these games for years and never had this problem. mostly all of my swings say fast and go completely to the left even though they obviously arent. can anyone help me with this
Call me confused as hell. No matter what i did on PC with xbox controller my tempo was very slow to slow. On the range just now and tried my PS5 controller. every swing was fast or very fast.. Had to swing in slow motion it felt like for perfect tempo... Take the cable out and put xbox remote back on and perfect tempo.. Was it a bug or just placebo effect lol.. Im thinking a bug
OK so im wrong lol. I guess the PS5 remote did make me have a light bulb moment. Lost my swing with xbox controller again. Went to range and figured it out. For me to have good tempo i have to swing to me what feels slower. I was using to much effort and trying to kill it and it would say very slow everytime. When i swing it smooth and slow i get good timing.. Almost like real golf i guess....... Now if the ball wasnt so bouncy and the greens were realistic this would be the perfect golf game
Yeah tempo is really tough and it takes so much practice and repetitions for muscle memory to finally kick in. Keep working at it and you will keep getting better each day!
@@GamerAbility BOught the game yesterday and shooting 3 to 7 under on Master difficulty.. For me making sure i took back swing back smooth and perfectly straight fixed everything. No more extreme hooks or slices. Is there a way to see your lie angle if its above or below your feet? Also how do you turn on numbers to see elivation? Ty Ty
Hi Ryan, love the vids and thanks for the time 👍 A couple of questions on tempo... Can tempo be turned off in all difficulty settings? Can you have it off in online games? as i havent played online yet! And finally whats the advantage and disadvantages of tempo? Cheers steve 🍺
Appreciate you Steve! So you can turn off tempo in the difficulty settings. But you cannot have it off in online ranked or casual matchmaking. Now if you create a private online match for you and your friends you can turn it off in the difficulty settings there. I personally think tempo on does a great job of capturing how hard golf actually is in real life. Tempo takes a lot of practice and is really hard to master, which makes it feel more like the challenge of real golf for me. A big part of the fun for me in this game is trying to dial in the swing plane and tempo.
Been playing for almost 3 weeks and yesterday and this morning i started hitting perfect every single time, i had a hour or 2 break and i come back suddenly to fast or to slow. Such a tedious game i eventually unistalled man
the last few golf games you have to be online to play -- is that the case in this version -- can you play against AI - offline with the courses, career, etc - or do you have to be online to access the features of the game
Does the club head matter ? I equipjd a cobra (orange) and the next game I played I was so off , I didn’t know what was going on , I was practicing my swing while watching your video and realized the one thing that changed that could be messin with me was my new club head , I reverted back and I was back to hitting my normal fast-perfect swing , as a pose to the cobra club where I would literally hit it deep left or deep right almost every drive
So the although changing the cosmetic look of a club does not affect the stats (only adding club fittings changes stats), I do find that it really throws off my tempo for some reason when I change my driver. Now adding a club fittings that increases power and decreases timing can definitely make the tempo more challenging, so if it was a fitting you changed that definitely can have an affect.
I just bought this game like 2 days ago & kinda figured it was going to be like tiger woods golf back in the day but boy was I wrong its alot harder than I thought it would be putting is still easy which is good but say when i put my option turned off the swing timing will that help me more or hurt me more to have the swing timing off or turn it back on to have a better swing idk what options is better just trying to find the best option
Yeah this game is definitely much harder than the older Tiger Woods games, but with practice it will keep getting better. So swing timing refers to the downswing speed at which you flick the stick forward. It can be very frustrating to learn which is why some players just turn on swing timing. So turning it off means downswing tempo does not matter anymore, all that matters is your distance control and swing path (How straight you pull the stick back and forward). Now if you plan on playing any of the online multiplayer, I would keep swing timing on to learn the tempo because once you get used to tempo being off it is really hard once you turn tempo back on. You could also try the 3-click input method, which many players find less frustrating than the swing stick.
Great video thank you. Could you make us a tempo build with the fittings please. And how do you get the default tempo back if you have calibrated before?.
Thank you! So since I am having so many glitches with the fittings, it will be awhile before I can show/make a full tempo/timing build. But my plan is to make it whenever I can, will likely be awhile though. So unfortunately once you calibrate once, you cannot get the default calibration back. They need to add a reset calibration setting
Hacker duffers and shankers. New society. Check it out. 2x weekly events. Championships and majors during the season. Events scheduled through mid december currently. Comp with some fun!
I’ve noticed that the swing plane affects the shots a ton as well. If you pull it back slightly to the inside but still get it perfect on the down swing it seems to go off line which drives me nuts.
Yeah the swing plane is very sensitive this year. Even little misses are punished quite a bit. I feel like many people will be applying fittings to the clubs that improve the swing path/plane.
I keep hearing that tempo correlates to the speed of your downswing, But I'm confused as to whether that means the actual speed at which I push the stick forward, or if that means the amount of time spent (at the 100% mark for example) between pulling the stick back and before starting to swing it forward--the reaction time so to speak? The lack of being able to reset back to the system default is a strange design choice--especially as there is no mention of that limitation AND the calibration is presented to a new player in the very beginning of the game as the proper and expected thing to do. Oh well, I'll keep working to sort this out. I've been playing 3-click for a full MyCareer season in order to get practice on reading greens, winds, etc., without being so frustrated with the swing stick. But it became easy and boring by the end of the season, so I want to add this in now--just a shame I messed it up without knowing it. LOL Thanks again for a great video.
So the swing tempo correlates to the full speed of your downswing, so from down on the analog stick all the way to the up position. Yeah they definitely need a reset swing calibration option!
@@GamerAbility Fantastic, thanks for that info! Then, I think I found a grip I'm going to practice on for a awhile. Three decades of gaming and I'm finding with 2k23 that my thumb just doesn't have the fine touch it needs anymore to keep that stick moving at a consitent pace. I suddenly miss that ball from Golden Tee--make it a gross motor skill instead! :D
So there is actually no way to reset the swing calibration in the game. The only way would be to uninstall and delete the ps5 saved game data locally and in the cloud but then you would lose all progress in the game. Now you can get back close to the default tempo by hitting 5 very slow and then 5 very fast in the calibration. Might be worth trying that before uninstalling and resetting progress. But it does not get completely back to default though, just closer. I wish they had a reset calibration setting.
This video seems to be assuming that everyone is using the 'Swing Stick' instead of the 3-click swing. Is this the case? I mean, my swing meter in PGA Tour 2K23 looks nothing like the one shown in this video and yet there's no mention of 'hey, I'm using Swing Stick instead of 3-click'
I really cannot get the hang of it on controller. On mouse I am getting perfect after perfect, but o controller I am playing worse than I play irl and in the woods half the time. I really wanna play with controller for comfort, but it is A LOT harder than mouse in my experience.
Yeah controller is extremely challenging on this game for tempo on analog swing. Requires so much patience and practice to get the muscle memory and it is so easy to miss.
Any advice, tips, methods for the 3 click system? Especially chip shots, the meter is so quick on partials, getting all 3 phases right is insanely difficult!
On pro … don’t look to stop it perfect. Use what I do.. ( went to 3 click and mastered it) wish I didn’t tho bc now I completely suck at swingsticj and a lot of guys I play with now give me shit all the time for clicking .. especially their societies they run. Most are only swingstick. Then I play those and do horrible bc I’m used to 3 click. But anyway Instead of looking to stop it perfect. Think of it more as a 3 click sound in your head. So you’ll hold a/x to start your swing then when you let go that’s your first ding if that makes sense. Then right after ding..ding So hold down then let go at where you want followed by 2 clicks but do it as if there was a sound playing in your head as you click. Lol sounds crazy bc I can’t add audio to describe it. But it’s very very efficient. Look up 3 click with sound video. You’ll see what I mean about the ding ding ding. Then you can do it with your eyes closed bc it’s a rhythm ding.. then a half second or so ding. Then again for last. I’m sorry I’m an idiot at explaining. Like I said try the video.
Hey Ryan! So far I was playing with the standard "pro" difficulty. Now my next step is to play without distance control (and without assistent). I am struggling a bit. I guess the full swing I can manage someday. But when it comes to part swings I'm struggling big time. Also when it comes to putting. I have no idea in what moment to hit the ball. Do you have an advice how to manage it? Maybe you can also make a tutorial about it? (and also others more advanced contents)
Not sure if there was a game update but my tempo has gone from very good to in the toilet. I keep hooking the ball. I think it’s linked to graphical settings causing lag.
Oh no, that would be very frustrating. Is it still happening? I have not experienced this myself, and I do not know a fix for this. Hopefully it gets fixed soon for you
I found it weird that I couldn't invert swing direction in options so I just turn my controller upside down. Feels more natural to hane downswing go down
Has anyone else found this game buggy with the backswing? It’s almost like my right analog stick is broken and can take about 3 or 4 attempts before it performs a full backswing. Frustrating and makes what is difficult even more difficult
I think you would have to uninstall, delete all your saved data, and then reinstall. But some have tried this on Xbox, and they still had all there fittings and progress and calibration was the same. May be different on other consoles. I wish they just had a reset calibration setting
@@GamerAbility You can't do it on PC either. I tried uninstalling the game and deleting all the game files, but I think 2K keeps a cloud save based on your steam account. So it is not possible to reset your calibration to default and this is beyond frustrating. HB studios needs to put this in the game. It is something people have been asking for since 2019 at very least I have seen online.
The controller has to stay stable throughout the swing. The number one fault is moving the controller with the swing. Don't move the controller with the joystick and the swing will be more predictable and repeatable.
I think the game is a bit unfair, because there are people who have a drive of 285 yards and others of 302 and who take advantage of them from 30 to 40 yards, I see that the game is all based on coins and real money, in that matter 2k21 was better
