As much as a useful tool shown here, the technique of a larger diameter and the wedge to lock it can be useful in other ways. Felix thinks outside of the box (and outside of the can too) 😁 Always something to learn here 👍
Well, I'd rather carry a small plastic shovel in my bag than waste my time on the camping site on manufacturing a tin shovel that will be weaker than my plastic shovel. I'm grateful for the technique, though. It is good to know how to make a shovel if I forget to take a real one with me, or I lose or destroy the one that I have.
Great video. You may never need a shovel, but a project like this is a great way to show techniques such as how to make a slot in a stick, which can be very useful.
Everyday I'm shoveling, shoveling, shoveling ... 🤣 Great project, Felix, thanks for giving inspiration ... I think I have to try this in order to create a little reverse shovel as used in India (means on Indian shovels the handle comes out backward over the shovel in an 45° angle). Have a good time, best regards, Robert
Oh how I love the Ranger with its toolset and relatively great portability for the day to day. The file/metal saw is handy. Thanks for another great project, Felix!
Very good I personally did that over a lifetime ago 50 years or more but I like it we did the same with plastic milk bottles a lifetime ago it was alright on the short term other long-term it was rubbish so we made shovels out of decent branches and they stun up to the task we used to make Knives Out of hands to make Casuals and boy was a sharp we also made spoons and forks a string was wood and it worked anyway thumbs up keep it going enjoy watching your channel
Hey I'm sorry I said I made Knives Out of hands and I meant to say old rice pudding cans and bean cans it was whatever we could get our hands on will use to sharpen them up with a little bit of spit I'm an old rock we used to use all pedal bike inner tubes to wrap around the handle to make a handles there was no cars on the road back then everything was brilliant just a lot of bomb sites a very lot of years ago everything was homemade plum bread cakes jam tarts lemon curd tarts we didn't even have a bathroom we bath in a tin Bath and that's the truth and it sounds hard to believe but it's a truth but we had a lot of fun growing up I haven't still grown up after all the years anyway keep it going thumbs up love watching your channel
Yet another inspirational video - you can do almost anything using a Swiss Army Knife (I have several but my favourite EDC is my Huntsman, which I’ve had for years). If you are not sponsored by Victorinox, you most certainly should be. Thanks for your content 😁🇦🇺👍
'Yes, you can' :-) Always fun and interesting watching you tinkering with the SAK's. Gives me lots of ideas👍 I think when you have the Champ, the Venture+Pro Kit, and an axe or big knife, you'll be ready for long term camping. Greets from the Netherlands 🇳🇱, TW.
Would love to see if it is possible to cut a wood log that has a diameter larger than, 2 times the length of the saw/largest blade on a swiss army knife. Could it be possible to make the saw "groove" larger than the thickness of the knife? While obviously wasteful and useless, it would be interesting to try. Only with a swiss army knife. Love the vids, keep it up! 👍
I wonder if you could make your shovel sturdier with double layers. Instead of cutting off a piece of metal, you could make a "T" shaped cut to form a two "flaps". Then fold those flaps inwards and with a round piece of wood suitable thickness, pound and roll them flat to contour the outer layer.
Great inspiration for making camping projects. Have you made primitive traps for survival camping? I would like to see you fabricate deadfall traps. I believe that you could show the trigger mechanisms for a Figure 4 trap, Paiute toggle trap, and promontory point. Thanks for all you do. Be Well and Good Journey Richie
Gracias.
Nice project, well done. IMHO the little bit of rim left at the front doesn't help much with stability, but without it you can shovel even small things up from the ground. I think, most of the stability comes from the 'wavy' side profile. On the handle end that's a whole other story, without the complete rim the bottom will easily bend. For tasks more heavy-duty it would add stability, if you oriented the wedge upright.
Dear Felix, Thank you for the video 🙂👍. Please add Czech subtitles. Automatic translation is enough. Please always add Czech subtitles. Not everyone can speak English or other foreign languages so well... Even here in the Czech Republic there are many people who would like to watch your videos... Thank you very much. I wish you all the best 😉
LG
Fantastic idea my friend as always! I dont know if you remember, but some years ago i asked you if you could think of a way to make survival crampons for a mountain situation with ice. Have you thought of anything to use? I thought maybe barbed wire from a fence or a piece of wood with glass or stones or sticks.. what's your take on this? thanks my friend!
I'm sorry, I didn't proofread it. I was talking about the seam that goes down the can to be on the bottom part of the shovel you make. I love your show, thanks.
So now if we go to war with china, and the dollar stores don’t have cheap kitchen tools, I can make my own. 😀. I’ll admit, I didn’t think this would work at all, but it seems to. See you in a few days.
