How To Increase Vocal Range For Males - COMPLETE - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
I get asked this question a LOT!
How can I increase my vocal range?
This answer is not so simple and here is why:
It’s not just a matter of increasing range, it’s a matter of good, healthy vocal habits and training.
We need to start with the building blocks first to establish good muscle-memory to “hold” the things we build on.
I want you guys to think of this like building a house.
We first start with a strong foundation. (No one really wants to hear this because they want easy tricks or tips on how to get range).
Once that “foundation” is established, we can start putting up walls and then build various “rooms” to our house.
Those rooms could be range, vibrato, belting, mixed voice, different tones and textures, melisma (licks and vocal runs) etc. etc..
But without that foundation, we create moving targets as to why we can’t get consistency out of our instrument.
I cover a small portion of this in this video and thoroughly cover this in my singing course: “How To Sing Better Than Anyone Else.”
I hope this video finds you well.

@@LeeEisenstein It's a dream of mine to study with Ken. But don't got the money for it. Maybe sometime in the future I can. Until then, I enjoy these clips very much. I can definately get somthing out of it. I'm not a very good singer, and I'm never going to be anyone in singing. But I enjoy the very small improovements now and then, when I use Ken's tips and tricks. 😊
@PezrulezHaakon
@PezrulezHaakon 5 лет назад
@@kentamplin Yes, all of your clips and tutorials are informative. 😊 Even though I don't get feedback on my singing, I've most definately noticed small baby step improovements when I try your tips. I started from scratch 4 years ago. Now I got a fair understanding of breath support, vowel placement, chest, mixed, head voice, and a tad of compression. Still got tons and tons to learn and master. 😊 Thank you Ken for your work! (y)

When I started taking voice lessons, I couldn't sing at all. In my experience as a voice student, the basic key to it, is learn proper technique. My two absolute top favorite vocal sites are Ken's and New York Vocal Academy and I watch both, religiously. Between these two, you can get your toes wet, so to speak. Once basic technique is mastered, you're real singing voice will begin to appear. You'll be surprised how good you can sound, once you've done that. Forgive me for offering advice, but here it is. Here's a thought. Ken teaches via Skype, I believe. Perhaps you could take one lesson, work on what he'll teach you for a month or more, then have another lesson. Over a year, maybe six or eight lessons, which may not sound like that many, but just doing that would get you great results, Imho, if you follow his instructions meticulously and practice. Here's a thought my teacher told me, early on, "Inhale on a yawn, exhale (sing) on a sigh. Everything relaxed and breathing from the diaphragm. Maybe there's a better way to approach that, but in my studies, it's worked for me. Anyway, singing is a great joy and is our birthright as a species. I don't know if it's true, but I've read that the part of the brain that process's music, evolved first, before we had symbolic thinking and language. Those parts of the brain, reportedly, developed after. Wouldn't surprise me, if true, since music affects us on the deepest level. Anyway, anyone please feel free to correct me, if any of my little pointers and observations are off base. Technique and practice, practice, practice. Aloha!

I don’t sing but I really would love a strong and widened vocal range. My limit right now is around a G4 (Light voice and “oo” vowels chest) I can hit an A4 and a B 4 if I belt hard enough and it’s a good day but that’s straining.... I also have difficulty with pronunciation and clear tone. Any tight movement of the mouth and/or vowels are hard for me to even hold an F 4/G 4 in simple patterns. I’ll try and do this whenever I can. Hopefully I can sing along to Queen in a month or so.

Most vocal coaches say the head voice is different than falsetto. Falsetto generally refers to to a type of voicing that enables the singer to sing notes beyond the vocal range of the normal or modal voice (wikipedia). I used to be able to sing falsetto, until a lady opened a car door suddenly in front of my bike, and caught me right on the voice box. I still have a head voice.

This is where I am currently on my singing. Working on tapping into the head voice without the speed bump. I'm also working on discovering what type of music my tone is built for. Singing alternative 90's type rock kareoke helps. I can do green day and RHCP well

I'm a Baritone and recently I've been really stressing myself out over high notes. I've been trying to see if I could someday sing as high as Freddie Mercury because he was a baritone with a wide range. I love how your so supportive of your viewers and I hope that your videos will give me what I need.

So much depends on learning to relax when you are feeling tense. There are a number of things you can do to mitigate that tension, but you have to deal with it in a positive way.

No chance that Freddie Mercury was a baritone, just type in You Tube Queen live at Wembley arena 1980 and you'll hear belting of high notes and a thin high voice that can only be described as a lyric tenor.

I used to know how to sing head voice, but I stopped singing in a few years and when I tried to sing very high, my voice cannot hit those notes again. So I'm trying to bring it back😩 maybe because I'm 14 now but I used to be like 8 or 7

The vocal of Steve Perry on the original "Wheel In The Sky" amazes me still. Then again almost every Journey song from 77 to 81 that he sang amazes me.
