Hey, Beauties! This has been a highly requested video after my previous nail tutorials, today I am showing you how to infill BIAB gel nails, aka builder gel nails. This is a gel polish overlay on my natural nails, however, you can use the Builder Gel to extend the tips of your nails if you use a form. The gel really is tough as nails and will be amazing if you struggle with weak natural nails.
* No base is required with the BIAB

It’s definitely not a hard thing to do, takes a little practice and then it’s super easy. Top tip is just to warm up your bottle first - many nail techs pop the bottle under their armpit or underneath their thigh while they sit down as the body warmth is perfect. It makes it more fluid which is what you want when avoiding thick application. Ideal for infills as it’s close to the cuticle which should be the thinnest application. Hope that helps!

I recently developed a gel allergy 😩 and now my nails are thrashed. I used BGIB for years (Tammy Taylor Nail Plump) with no issues. Then I bought a less expensive product from Amazon and all hell broke loose! The severity of the reaction was entirely my fault though; I should have removed everything as soon as they started itching and burning, but I was in total denial and left them on for several more days 🤦‍♀️ My whole point is to make others aware, and don't do what I did. The painful cracked, dry skin is all healed now, but I also had onycholysis on ALL 10 nails, so now I have to deal with ugly nubs until they grow out. Will I venture back into gels? Absolutely! But with extreme caution, and only using high quality products, being mindful of the ingredients. Beautiful mani, Shonagh!

Thanks for sharing, Sandy! What an awful experience. People don’t think about these complications as no one really shares their experience - I’m glad you’re not put off gel and only plan to use reputable brands. I’ve only ever used gels that you can buy with a license - this particular gel isn’t one of those so it’s a first time for me but it does have a good reputation, however, that’s why I didn’t want to share the name as it’s the first time I’m using it and I didn’t want to promote it if it’s not good. I’ve used the same technique as I would with my regular choice of gel so this is just about the technique. I’m pleased you’ve shared your experience as it will hopefully help anyone else thinking of trying a generic unknown brand.

@@ShonaghScott Back in the 80s and 90s when I was a licensed nail tech, I used Tammy Taylor exclusively. Her products were always good quality, and she only sold to professionals. Life took me in a different direction, and I let my license lapse in the early 2000s. When I started doing my nails again a few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find that TT gel products were available to the general public. Her acrylic powders, monomers, primers etc are still for licensed pros only, though. I wish I wouldn't have let my license lapse. Not that I want to get back into the business, but many companies, like Tammy Taylor, also offer a professional discount. Oh well, live and learn, LOL!

@@sandyrice3559 ahh, well at least you know what you’re doing! I don’t believe we have that brand here 🤔 it’s great that you can get lots of her products without the license, and that they only allowed licensed pros to purchase the products you should be trained in. Gels have become so straight forward these days that more or less anyone can do them (maybe not very well 🤭) but they’re allowed to buy them. I don’t offer mani’s to customers anymore either, I just keep it up for myself and Callie 🤩

Am I allowed to use the gel polish builder in a bottle in clear as a base for my overlay and then use a different brand (like OPI gel funny bunny) to add the colour on top? I hope that makes sense…. Essentially am I allowed to mix brands? There are so many colour options with opi 😩

You need to really try and use a very similar or the same tone when doing an infill. Or, use a gel overlay in a solid colour to disguise it.

No, you don’t use a base coat with some BIABs. Clear requires a rubber base coat. Ideally you should use top coats that match the brand or at least have been designed to be used with BIAB.

Great video, thank you. I also have the TGB lamp. When you're curing for 40sec and then 2min cure...what setting are you using? Atm I'm using the low heat setting for 99 secs for each coat of BIAB. Also, instead of the gellish step for dehydrating the nail after cuticle removal, do you think acetone would do the same trick? Thanks again! I love your videos. Really informative :)
@ShonaghScott
@ShonaghScott Год назад
Hey Krysia! I use low heat setting for the 40 sec cure to prevent heat spikes. Then I do a full 2 min cure at the end before the top coat just make sure they’re full cured. Yes, acetone would also work for dehydrating 😊

Doesn’t peel or lift if the prep is done correctly. I’ve tried one other brand and I had staying power issues with it because it didn’t harden like TGB does, so it peeled. Just a couple of questions, bear in mind I’m a beginner so apologies if these are silly questions! 1) I notice you don’t use a specific base coat, just a thinner coat of the colour you’re using - all the systems I’ve seen all suggest to use a base coat..? 2) why can’t all the layers be painted on in the traditional way i.e. literally just painted on, as opposed to putting a ‘bead’ on then doing the funny wiggly side to side thing? I’ve tried to do it that way but it just goes so thick and the nail looks like a horrible bubble - why can’t I just do several thin, painted layers? What is it about the ‘wiggly’ method that makes it better and why can’t I do it right?!? lol apologies if I’m not explaining it well! Any tips would be gratefully received as I’m determined to do this myself and not pay salon prices 😂
@ShonaghScott
@ShonaghScott 4 месяца назад
Hi! No silly questions here ☺️ You don’t need a base coat with certain colours of TheGelBottle and NailzKatKat BIAB Gels. The All-In-One gels by TGB don’t require a base coat but you can find out which do by looking at each shade on the website, scrolling down towards the bottom it’ll tell you. In regards to layering the gel, you can of course just paint a few layers but you’ll likely find that the gel will snap or break before your 2-3 weeks in-fill is required. Having a full apex (the centre of the nail) creates centre of gravity and sturdiness to the nailbed, making it more durable and more realistic. My nails are very natural, not too bubble-like as I only apply a thin amount. Some nail artists go quite thick with them which I’m not a fan of. But I still always build the apex by applying the bead in the centre then ‘wiggling’ side to side, as you say, to carry a smaller amount of gel to the side walls of the nail bed. The wiggling means you gently encouraging the gel pull to the edges but keeping the majority of its placement along the centre to build the apex. By turning the nail over and leaving it for 10 seconds allows the gel to pull towards that centre before you cure it. If you don’t, you’ll find the gel will pool in the side walls and it’ll be a mess. I hope that helps!

@@234mara okay, when you file it down it will create a rough texture but it shouldn’t be too bumpy that it would affect the layer you put on next - apply the slip layer and then make sure the bead of BIAB that goes over it is large enough to create a smooth layer. Maybe you’re doing the layer too thin and that’s why the texture is showing through?
