I've made a ring with just crushed/pulverized lapis lazuli before as well. But what I did with mine was I added a small amount of pulverized pyrite (fools gold) to the lapis powder. This is because the gold specks that you sometimes see in lapis is actually pyrite, and I wanted to show a little more pyrite.
@DreamwoodRings
@DreamwoodRings 2 года назад
Yes, that's a great idea! The gold specs always look so good with the lapis and having more I can imagine look amazing.

Do you have a video showing how you set up the ring with the lathe before removing excess stone? I Checked your links but idk what's holding the two sides or how you connect the step mandrel to the lathe

Ceramic is as hard as tungsten! It also is not plated so the entire ring is black. Give them a try if you haven't yet! shopdreamwood.com/collections/ceramic-ring-blanks

love the video and your ongoing commentary. did you remove the black finish? it looked like that when you finished polishing! i thought that was a no no. i have not been able to do a plated ring without taking off the polish. maybe i am seeing this wrong. help me out please. nice looking ring no matter. if the black plating has been removed is that a bother to the customer? do they notice? thanks in advance for your answer.
@DreamwoodRings
@DreamwoodRings 6 месяцев назад
This is actually a black ceramic ring. It is not plated so the black could never be rubbed off. If you were to use a black plated ring then yes sanding or polishing could remove the black plating.

@lauryltedesco3436
@lauryltedesco3436 4 месяца назад
@@DreamwoodRings Hi! I don’t think so, it’s a mini polisher with a couple of different tools you can change out with the spindle-one is a ring mandrel-it doesn’t slide back and forth like a lathe but everything else is the same. It’s a really cool little piece, but I just can pull the spindle of to put the ring mandrel off! Gah, it’s frustrating! Lol

Definitely. We made rings on just a drill for a long time. Check out our bentwood ring series I believe it shows how we make one with a drill.

Ceramic is not plated, so a carbide tool will not scratch or discolor it.

I noticed a hammered ring on the website. When you make the ring in the same fashion as your video, can the turning tool and sandpaper essentially remove the hammered look?
@DreamwoodRings
@DreamwoodRings 9 месяцев назад
If you use the wrong sand paper it can! But you want to use a soft wood sand paper and it won't affect the hammered look at all.

Hey, that really depends on the channel size. I think with this 8mm ring, 5mm channel I would feel safe around 2-3 grams. That should also give you a bit extra if needed. Here is our Lapis shopdreamwood.com/products/afghan-lapis-aaa?variant=32316242624567
