Thanks for the reminder at 3:01. I just put some new cotters in, and when I tightened them, there was only enough threaded section exposed for the nut to barely cover it when tightened. The outside edge of the nut is just about flush with the end of the threaded section of the pin. I noticed that yours are just about the same as mine in this regard. Someone suggested that I should have some threaded section showing. I guess it is not important.

Maximum thread engagement is when the threads are fully contacted over the depth of the nut (and the nylon locker). It’s definitely nice (and possibly looks better) to have an extra thread or two protruding beyond the depth of the nut, but it’s not going to affect the strength of the fastened connection.
