Love your videos ❤️man im an Apprentice and everything you say and explain makes a lot of since ☺️ id like to see you take a gopro with you to your jobs and break down step by step on what your doing that would be cool
thanks for the australian content very rare and hard to find on youtube .I removed a dimmer because my lights were flicking , stuck the wires back in and somehow i mucked it up because I have 3 switches operating my lights ,now the switch only works when one of the other switches is on or off.At least I know what the loop does .
Thanks mate..worked..for how long not sure, I'm running 3 odd found object chandeliers, one with led, one with incandescent and the other with halogen...the dimming quite uneven, in fact the halogens don't dim. I'm happy just the same.
thanks so much, really clear explanation on common installation jobs! would you also be able to make a video about installing a dimmer switch like in your other video, but then within a 2 way switching configuration (looped at the switch)? that would be great!
Hi there, it's very well explained nice video, if possible please create content on wiring for ceiling fan with switch in dry wall..keep the good work up, once again many many thanks for the great video 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'd be keen to see this video too lol your a legend with these videos mate, and the only one I've found to be aussie lol hopefully you'll be able to post more regularly im keen to see more haha Cheers mate
Your a legend with these videos mate, and the only one I've found to be aussie with the 240v lol hopefully you'll be able to post more cause we're keen to see more haha Cheers mate
@@allelectricalau also mate, got couple questions if thats ok, I'm just curious as I've currently got a 2 plug 2 switch outdoor power point setup but I'm wanting to have a 3 switch instead of the 2,so I can run the 3rd to a container and putting power to that. My question is, can i just piggy back all of the 3 wires that are currently in the one that's there, and just run the same configuration like green to green, red to red and black to black together. And what's a decent multi meter youd recommend at a cheapish price. Cheers mate really appreciate any help 👍
Simple :) , Question : if a house already had a dimmer on a switch that you wanted to remove, could you simply replace the a single wire in place of the dimmer to effectively bypass it ? ie when switch is turned on the live current now flows straight through to the loop with no wave modulation (ie no dimming).
Small flat head screwdriver 🪛 in from the back. Need to be careful not to stab yourself and breaking the plastic. There should be small slots around the mechanism to insert and screw driver.
Nope any wire is fine out of the dimmer. Aslong as the switch wire to the light joins with the other dimmer wire and is put in either the looping terminal or connector.
Very Helpful thank you! Can you install one dimmer to 3 light switches at the same time? can the dimmer control more than one switch? I have a 3 button light switch with controls various lights in different locations. Can the dimmer control all of these lights?
Thank you for the informative video. My house is using the loop at the light method, could you kindly advise me on how I can install the same dimmer switch with this old method?
At your switch you will most likely have a twin active. The process is still the same you just wont have neutrals and earths at your switch. Hardactive into common the tail of dimmer into number 1 the other tail joins with white active up to light.
If you have architrave switches I suggest calling a electrician for this one because you only have limited amount of cable to play with and you would have to drill out the architrave or move the switch to the wall instead.
Hi there liked your video, I want to ask you I have dimmer switch and I want remove it so what should I do because there are 3 switches and just one of them only connected to the dimmer. Thanks
Its hard to say there are different ways people can connect a dimmer. If its connected like this remove the cable from the loop and put it in number 1. And remove the dimmer completely.
Trailing edge dimmers have a much lower minimum load than the leading edge, making them far more suitable for powering LEDs. The 10% rule is very important when using trailing edge dimmers with LEDs. ... The main benefit of trailing edge dimmers is that they are able to control lower wattage loads.
Great vid mate! Can you advise me on what I need to do in my situation? I have x2 black wires in loop and x1 red wire in 1 and x1 red wire in C. Do I still follow your instructions?
Remove cable from terminal 1 and join with 1 dimmer wire in a connector. The other dimmer wire goes into terminal one. When the switch is turned on power flows from common to 1 then through the dimmer then up to the light.
The switch where the wire goes from the common to the light is removed. One side of the dimmer goes into the common and the other side of the dimmer joins with the removed switch wire to the light.
Great video , why there are 2 cables in Common, 1 is from the main what about the other one? there is no second switch, so why there are 2 cable there thx
You will have a 2core cable possibly red and white. Red is usually the hard active and always has 230v this goes into the common terminal. One of the dimmer wires into number 1. The other dimmer wire and white cable joins in looping terminal or connector.
An orange wire rings alarm bells especialy in a domestic application 🔔 its best to contact an electrician if you are unsure. Usually the colours we use are red,green/yellow, white and black.
@@allelectricalau - it was working on the previous light switch, but when I wire it to the dimmer, it's either the dimmer works and the light don't turn off, OR when I wire it a different way then the light switch works and the dimmer doesn't work. So would I go: red to the common, 1 dimmer wire to the 1 socket, and the other dimmer wire and the orange to the loop socket?
Like the heavy duty disclaimer for Oz consumption. Of course us DIY-ers know that ANY work on the fixed wiring is illegal so we would never attempt something like this! 🙂
