In this video, I show the end-to-end process to install a direct vent, natural gas fireplace from unboxing to mantle with built-in cabinets. This is a summary of my Family Room Makeover that was documented in several videos that can be found in this playlist: • Empire Tahoe Fireplace...
The fireplace shown in this video is an Empire Tahoe Luxury model provided by eFireplaceStore to demonstrate the installation process. Check them out at handydad.tv/efps.

Looks great! I DIY flipped my house and never got the opportunity to work with any type of fireplace so I'm glad I found this video. Love the build-ins too.

i think you did a great job, the csst install details indicate not to cut the yellow part any further back than the edge of the fitting though. I just bring this up in case a future person reads this.

I realize this is after the fact....if your gas piping is sized correctly there will be no drop in pressure as you get farther from the meter
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 3 года назад
True, when there is no flow. But every foot of pipe and every elbow affects the pressure when gas is flowing.

Ok, I understand that there was originally another fireplace i. that place. my question is: Is it possible to install a gas fireplace in a wall that was not intended to have a gas fireplace at the time when the home was built?
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 3 года назад
Yes. Same process I used. The vent pipe would just go through the wall.
@PeterSchneemann
@PeterSchneemann 3 года назад
@@handydadtv Thank you! And do all walls have connections to a gas supply? Also will the fireplace have to stick to the inside of the house? I have seen that some homes have something like a bump on the outside of the wall where the fireplace is, so basically it is inside the wall and no sticking to much towards the inside of the living room. Would it it be possible to do it like that if the home is finished already? I am buying a home which hasn’t been built yet, but it is a spec home and the builder told me they do not have a fireplace in the plan. That’s why I need to know if I will be able to build one later and if yes, how it would work and looks like.
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 3 года назад
Sure you can have the front of the fireplace flush with the wall. If you’re having the house built, just tell the builder what you want and have him run the gas line.
@PeterSchneemann
@PeterSchneemann 3 года назад
@@handydadtv The problem is that it is a spec home. This basically means that I cannot tell them anything. They just follow their plan. I can’t even change the color. That is why I am worried if it will be possible to add a fireplace there once the house is done. Do gas pipes run through all the walls? I know they will have to demolish something to install the fireplace but I hope they won’t have to demolish and redo everything from scratch
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 3 года назад
Adding the fireplace is easy. The gas line is the hardest part. They don’t run through every wall. Consider an electric fireplace. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bvD9U8LLLNA.html

I'm curious if the outer vent should have been turned 90 degrees to keep out more rain. It also looks like you forgot the inner band clamp, I'll assume you did it out of frame. ;) (its there but isn't put into final place) I'm curious of the heat rating of the sealant used? Looks great!

Great job man! I have a similar model of a vented through the back gas fireplace and in windy days I can feel some cold air coming into the house. I’m afraid they didn’t caulk the exhaust and intake tubes as you did, or maybe there is something else wrong with it, like a poorly installed insulation on the walls behind it. Do you have any hints for me on where to start my investigation? Thanks Merry Xmas!
@handydadtv
@handydadtv Год назад
The only thing I can suggest is to make sure the glass is installed correctly against the seal. That would definitely let cold air in.

@@handydadtv thanks! I can feel the cold air flowing from the bottom grill. It’s like if there is a window open with air simply coming in freely. I did a quick test with a candle and I can “see the wind” in the flame.
@tylerreidl8447
@tylerreidl8447 Год назад
I think it's supposed to be that way, the vent pipe is dual purpose, the inner small pipe is the gas exhaust leaving the fireplace, while the larger outside pipe supplies fresh air to create combustible gas/oxygen mixture.
