How to install a graphics card with power cable adapter?
Installation of the PCI-E graphics card isn't difficult, but when you have an old power supply, you may run into the problem of missing the right connectors.
I my video I have shown how to solve the problem, I used the graphics card with an 8 pin power connector. You can use an adapter for Molex connectors that are in every PC. It's not the best solution; replacing the power supply is a much better idea, so do it if you can.
Adapters can be poor quality and so make sure that all Molex pins are well connected. It is a good idea to check that the connections between the Molex and the 8-pin connector are correct before you start the installation. I've heard that the computer was damaged when the cables were swapped in adapter.

if you are here and don't have 6/8 pins in gpu, don't worry low gpu's does not have pins to connect to psu as pcie slot itself provides the power.

Yeah this is me, my problem is that I am upgrading my gpu and my old gpu didn’t need any cables. However, my new gpu needs a 6 pin adapter but there isn’t already one in the pc since my old one didn’t need it (i bought a prebuilt). Do u know what i am supposed to do??

Dude, you're asking for a fire. An 8 pin gpu power plug can draw up to 150W. Molex cannot handle 150W. Capiche?

@@m4rshal469 75 watts only are the needed wattage because the 75 watts are from the motherboard. But I don't trust this process(adapters) in long term use because this is the leading cause of shorts like in latest rtx 4090.

One question, i have a MSI GTX 1650 Aero ITX that needs a 6 pin power connector, but i dont have the power connector and i am planning to buy an adapter like this, my psu has 500w and the minimum amount for the graphics card is 300w (the graphics card only uses 75w). Bro You can go with this connector it's perfect as the pcie express slot itselft provides 75 w of power and it only consumes 75w power so you are safe to go even in long term and your psu is also fine for this gpu

Make sure 300W is not too little? The bigger, newer power supply will have different connectors.

@@JNY_32 I used the 6pin 2 molex and it works perfectly, because the motherboard can stand already 75w so if your gpu is the same I have, or one that uses not much more than 75w it will work, just be sure that the psu has enough power for your gpu and use a 2molex and not 1molex because it will split the wattage between the two cables so it's safer

PCIe is the name of the data connector. The PSU has power connectors. You need to compare the power socket on the graphics card with the plug from the PSU

Now that Trump is gone, and every day isn't a crazy $hit show ... maybe the PSU folks will reach out to the GPU people (or vice-versa) and finally figure out an intuitive way to standardize how their components interact with one another? This shouldn't be so complicated. And one shouldn't need to replace their entire PSU (or settle for Molex) when moving from something such as a GTX 970 to 1660, especially if the PSU exceeds power requirements. That's not how building your own PC is supposed to work!

I'm upgrading from a RTX 2080S to an RTX 3090 and note that the 2080 had an 8 and 6 pin power setup whereas the 3090 has two 8 pin for power. I also know the 3090 has accessory cables (2x 6 to 8 pin adapters). Do I simply use the adapter for one of the existing 6 pins? Thank you

AVOID THESE CABLES AT ALL COST. I plugged my adapter in today, of which I've used before into my second nvidia 970. I heard a strange hissing sound and then smoke, the cable started melting. And now my motherboard is broken.

To me it sounds like you have Crappy Grounding issues. This method is safe as long as you Properly Ground everything. Tested it with my GTX 1660 ti.

@@allenthomas914 Different graphics cards have different commectors. You mast check what connectors you have in PSU supply. Even similar graphics cards can have differents sockets.

Check the GPU power requirements (watts) at techpowerup.com and make sure it meets the PSU power output (also in watts. It should be written on the PSU itself) For example a GPU with power requirement of 300W will work no problem with, for example, 350 or 400W PSU

Molex and Sata usually share a rail. You would want want one from each chain if you could. And this is only sort of safe for cards that draw 120w or less. If it needs 2 8 pins or 2 6 pins, your going to start a fire if you try using 2 of these adapters and 4 molex or sata connections.

@@mattdudley3789 I'm trying to power my Lian Li TL Fans that require a 6 pcie to power the fan connector hub, so i don't think i will be drawing as much as needed for a card. Roughly 60ish W or so if i added them all together... =X So seems like if i just use the molex cable + adaptor 2molex conenctors> 6Pcie power ... it should be safe is what it sounds like since i'm not gonna be pushing it anywhere near that high. (Only reason is my PSU already has 3 used for my GPU and 2 for my CPU/MOBO and there isn't any spares left)

The video shows a computer with an old power supply. That's why I had to buy this adapter. It's in the video description. Currently, the cables needed are together with the power supply. The adapter should work. This is not a perfect solution. Rather temporary. They are usually of low quality. You need to make sure that all Pins are plugged in!!! 2:46

I have a Raidmax 530ss 80+ and it comes only with 6 + 6 PCI Express. But the GTX 970 requires one 8 + 6. So can I use a molex safely?

Hi, it'a a very good question, I have explained it in the video description. It's not the best solution; replacing the power supply is a much better idea, so do it if you can. Adapters can be poor quality and so make sure that all Molex pins are well connected. It is a good idea to check that the connections between the Molex and the 8-pin connector are correct before you start the installation. I've heard that the computer was damaged when the cables were swapped.

@@_nom_ when it's running your 970 require 314 watt to run. The pci e 16 will supply 75w that leave 239 watt that needed to be supple by the connector. The 8 pin will supply 150w and 6 pin will suplly 75w

Nvidia GT1030 does not need any additional power supply. Just plug into PCIe.

Sou muito leigo no assunto quero tirar umas duvidas, eu tenho um pc com ryzen 5 5600g (video integrado) estou pensando em dar um upgrade comprando uma placa de video, eu vi alguns videos sobre e sempre repete o mesmo padrão até ai tudo bem, você encaixa a placa de video coloca os parafusos e o principal conecta um cabo chamado PCIE esse cabo serve pra ligar a placa de video, até ai tudo bem, mas o meu pc ja veio montado e nunca mexi nas peças, fios enfim, eu não sei aonde está esse cabo PCIE e nem sei se veio dentro ou está conectado, como falei sou legio, mas eu reparei que tem um cabo muito parecido na placa mãe, então a minha duvida é todos os pc vem com esse cabo? esse cabo PCIE está conectado na placa mãe?

This is the Safest way to power up single 8 pins GPU. Step 1) 2 Molex to 6 Pins PCIe Step 2) 2 SATA to 6 Pins PCIe Step 3) 6+6 pins PCIe to 8 pins PCIe. Warning!!!! Don't buy 2 Molex directed to 8 pins. OR 2 SATA directed to 8 pins.

This is under the assumption you have 2 molex and 2 SATA cable. If you have 4 molex or 4 SATA cable, then the method is still the same like previous comment.

@@thedspace yeah, the Step 1 and Step 2 Actually must be taken from stand alone source of Cable from the PSU. Which means the 2 Molex must be same Strands of Cable, and then 2 SATA must be from Different root Strands of Cable of that same PSU. Which means 54 Watt + 54 Watt. Which equals 108 Watt. The PCIe X16 Lanes on the Motherboard also gives 75 Watt. Which means 108 Watt + 75 Watt = 183 Watt. For reference, GTX 1660 ti is using 120 Watt. I have videos of it.

@@ofiryehudar12 to be Safely feed 8 Pins PCIe power connector "if" your PSU don't have it, you need at least 4 Yellow Cable. Yellow means 12 Volt. That's why I said 2 Sata + 2 Molex = 4 Yellow cable
