I have a baffle wall so that my Paradigm Signature Studio S8 L/R and C5 center box speakers are sitting behind my AT SCREEN. The front of the baffle wall is lined with 2” linacouastic insulation with GOM FABRIC on top. I have two SVS PB-3000 subwoofers in the floor in front of my baffle wall. I was thinking of putting them inside the baffle wall so that only their front drivers are flushed with the baffle wall. However, I was told that putting the speakers in the baffle wall will result in a loss of bass since bass doesn’t just go out the front drivers but the bass also emanates out of all sides of the subwoofer, including back, top, bottom an and sides. So I was told putting the subs inside the baffle wall will resulting in loss of bass and I should just put the subs outside in the room in front of the baffle wall. I wonder how true this is, since it would be more aesthetically pleasing if the subs were hidden behind the baffle wall with only their driver showing in front and maybe covered them by GOM fabric for a clean look. Thoughts? Also, can the Compact player be rack mounted by itself (using the same rack mount kit)since I plan on installing the terra server in another room.. the terra server will be connected to the player via 1 gigabit network to the compact player. How hot does the compact player get in the rack? Finally, I find it annoying paying an extra $195 for the rack mount kit.

I'm not sure on the accurate answer to that question, as I haven't had to answer it for myself. I have in-walls subs in my living room with the driver facing out and I'm thinking that design losses bass inside the wall. I know a lot of folks that have subs built in like you are describing though with only drivers exposes and it seems to work fine. For the K, yes, you can mount the Strato in the same 1U rack by itself. I've never checked heat, honestly. My rack is in a big room in my basement. Heat isn't a concern for me really. K had a promo a while back that got the rack mount with a C and Terra, but yeah, I dislike when companies charge extra for rack mounts or ears too, especially on expensive stuff.

Related question, I have a kserver-5000, kvault, M300,M500 currently. i can pick up a co-star switch and then add a strato player. can i use my existing kserver for the strato?

Hmm, I'm not sure if the Costar works with the older older stuff or if it's really meant for an Alto/Strato only combination. I'd recommend asking on kscape owner's forum.

No idea why you would pay ~$5K more for a Strato C. totally not worth it if you had the S. I far prefer the S as a one box, better form factor, 1 power supply, solution. Download speed is like 20 min on a 1000Gb/s connection; so not really a practical difference. And the S was about $5K vs $9K… you could have just added a Terra HD to the S.

I did things this way because it worked out advantageously for me financially in the shuffling of the equipment to do so. Obviously, I wouldn't have sold and rebought things to waste money. The resale on the S was strong because they are desired now and few are available to buy since being discontinued. The S had its nice elements for sure, but I prefer this C/Terra setup and its features, for me. I was getting electrical noise/interference using the S in the setup because the video processing and hard drive were in the same box. Spreading them out has nullified that issue entirely. A huge relief. You're incorrect in your download estimates also. An S caps out in its maximum download potential at just over 200 Mbps. It doesn't matter how much faster your service is. So you're looking at more like 45 minutes to download a movie to an S. I can get

Long time Plex user here... I thought of getting Kaleidescape last Summer, but I wasn't convinced yet, and so I got a MadVR Envy instead (which I'm glad I did - I love the auto aspect ratio!). Anyway, I've been watching too much Kaleidescape videos from you (and some from AV Nirvana), so I'm reconsidering K-scape again... unfortunately, prices are about $1500 to $2000 more now than they were last Summer. Isn't technology supposed to get cheaper over time? Anyway, does the rack mount kit come with a template so it's possible to only install one device? In my case, I would install the player in my rack, but put the server in my server room (not in my rack, to keep things cool). Also, is 1U extra space above the player (and no extra space under it) sufficient to keep it cool? Also, you mentioned about painting your speaker grills. If you haven't done so, and need custom colors for your grills, I suggest MyPerfectColor.com. Spray paint is a must for speaker grills, and if you have a need to match the speaker grills with, for example, the wall, they can provide a spray paint can with the exact color you need. Expensive, but worth it (no need to get expensive spray hardware).

Yeah, the rack mount can be a single or double device. I don't think you need much to keep it cool. I put an extra 1U above the rack mount because I have the external PSU bricks sitting on top of the devices inside. So I needed that clearance. I'll happy to help you spend more of your money on a K. :) The future plans for the living room will negate any need to paint the grills. Stay tuned. :)

Did you connect your Terra and Strato to a UPS battery backup? Or do you think a surge protector is okay?

Surge is fine. I have a UPS on my rack, but I wouldn't say it is required.

A Strato C is not a complete Kaleidescape system. Yes, you need a Terra to go with it. Message me at techthusiasm_jp@outlook.com, and I can put you in touch with some folks to help you out with getting a system.

I don't think I've heard you mention it in any other video, but how is sound transmission, like LFE, outside the room?

With the new changes and the new subs, I transfer LFE to main floor for sure. That's one big failing of the room is that it's just a room. I didn't do anything focused on structural integrity because the house was finished already and it's just another room. This is a good topic for another vlog though!

I love it when you say that you are pushing it in one sentence and in the next you say that you will upgrade sooner rather then later . 😀 Also, looking forward too hear more about your findings with Anthem ARC. With the Apple TV, dont you lose the ability to play lossless audio from ripped Blu Rays? I tried it through Plex and I could only get PCM 7.1, so I picked up a Shield. With that I'm able to get Atmos, DTS-X, and alike. Also, messing around with my Zidoo UHD 3000 player that just showed up. Pretty cool so far. I used MakeMKV to just make BDMV folders which I loaded onto an HDD. Pretty painless process, and definitely a better experience than pulling and loading up discs. I like how you can just skip around all the trailers and menus. Think I'm going to run with it. The last piece is to get a NAS so I can setup a redundancy array, and then just start ripping for what I assume will be a few months.

With Infuse on the Apple TV, from rips it will output PCM up to 7.1. It won't bitstream, so it won't pass Atmos/DTS:X audio. But PCM 7.1 from the app/device is still lossless audio. The DTS-MA and TrueHD mixes are just getting decompressed and sent out as PCM. It's the same thing, no loss. I'm not bothered by lack of bitstream this way as I will maintain just a smaller library of ripped stuff and most of it is still HD Blu-ray.

@@Techthusiasm Yea, plex outputs the same way on the Apple TV. That’s why I picked up the Shield. Still using the Apple TV for all other streaming through. I’m not sure there’s a reason to change that up.

I use Apple TV for a lot. It's the main device in our system, so keeping any rips to Infuse is nice for us. Most all of my computing and devices are Apple.

The faceplate looks good on the new k scape. I actually like the wall cabinets you have in there, keeps stuff organized and the boxes add up - nice to have somewhere to keep those that is wife friendly

Thanks! The house was a custom build, so we designed this room for storage. The carpenters built the shelving as you see it to the design spec. So it was all integrated, painted, and part of the room from the start.

Love your content, the one about the Trinnov Altitude 16, was one of my favorite. We are all home theater enthusiasm. Would love to hear the deference between the Anthem AVM 90 VS AVM 70, if the audio quality in home theater is worth the price deference. Like you did with the Trinnov processor. We all know so much about calibration, but we are not expert. If you could get your hand on one, and compare it to your AVM 70. Would love to hear your taught about it.

The AVM90 is out now and it's getting major positive press. Audio Advice just did a video. It looks incredibly close to the AVM70 to me, aside from internals and 4 subwoofer support. I would love to sample one and see what all the excitement is about.

I installed the 70 last night just enough to watch RU-vid and to make sure I didn’t have any problems with the Unit. I didn’t hook up any speakers just used the TV’s. I was wondering if you saw an improvement in picture quality? I want to say it seems like the Clarity is sharper by about 1-2%. I’m not sure if it’s my brain playing tricks on me or if I’m seeing correctly! Anyway picture quality isn’t much better than my old Yamaha 3050 which was excellent! 👴🏽

Fun! I don't think I noted any picture quality changes. I would say you really shouldn't. If the processor is doing the right thing with video, it should be doing nothing with video except for switching and passing it along untarnished.

@@Techthusiasm To all your followers: If you are on the fence about making a purchase at Crutchfield’s scratch & dent department don’t hesitate!! I bought my Anthem AVM70 from that Dept. and it’s flawless!! It was the last one. It was delivered double boxed with no holes nor tears. Every bag appeared as if it had never been opened. The Processor appeared as if it had never been used not a scratch on it anywhere. It still had the protective plastic covering over the screen. No parts were missing! Full warranty included! For the Life of Me I don’t understand why it was in the scratch & dent department. I even received a $300 discount because it was in the scratch and dent. Paid 0 taxes(for Missouri)and the shipping was also Free! I couldn’t be any happier except for an even lower price!😂

Nice! I’d have good experience with Accessories4less as well for refurb or returned gear. That’s often a great way to go.
