You know Michael, you’re right about if any of these companies go belly up, that’s it, you just lost everything you PAID for. That’s one reason why I like the physical hard disc. And the good thing about the hard disc, you can store it in your garage without it getting damaged, I hope.
Thanks for covering this product and many others that most people, including myself, can't afford. I love theater tech and love to see what's coming down the line as far as what is possible and what may be more attainable in the future.
🍿🍿🍿it’s so entertaining to see people who get so upset over the cost. It’s not targetting an average user, it is a luxury item! Just like cars… you can buy a Saturn or a Ferrari. Same function, completely different results/ experiences.
Great video Youthman and congrats on leveling up to AD. In the web interface under Advanced Video Settings, did you opt to "transmit content type metadata" to your NZ8? If you could share your web interface settings, that would be great. I also have an NZ8 as of two weeks ago and hope to dial in correctly.
If they had priced this at $1,999 with the same 1TB storage they would've seen their sales sky rocket. I feel the price that this is currently at should at least come with 4-6TB of storage.
It doesn’t matter what we personally think a company should sell their product for, every brand has to make a profit. If they can’t make a profit, they don’t stay in business. I don’t know any company that could reduce their pricing by 50% and remain in business. Could you survive if your paycheck was cut in half?
@@Youthman thousands of businesses are able to lower prices on their products once they become a bigger company and get better sources to help get a lower manufacturing cost per unit. Lowering the cost of the product doesn’t necessarily equal less money they make overall. If they’re able to find a sweet spot at a lower cost that allows a lot more people to buy, that easily could equal or likely surpass their sales now with the minimum of people buying it at this highly debatable price point. But.. they might not even want to get their prices down that low (even if they could) to maintain their premium look/price point.
@MrGettemTV they reduced the entry point from $10,000 to $4,000. I’m still not sure how you expect them to reduce that product by 50% and be profitable. 🤷♂️
Thanks so much for this video. I have saved for reference. I’m in Canada and am excited that I will get my Strato V next week. So happy to join this system.
Before the Strato V, I had no chance of talking my wife into letting me buy into Kaleidescape. Now with it only costing $4k to buy into Kaleidescape, there’s a chance! Hopefully we get some sales to bring it down to $3,500 or so. That would be great!
For the 1% wealthiest people this makes a lot of sense but for 99% of people you’d be better off to rip your own physical media to a nas or plex to watch it.
All about prioritization, got a friend that drives a really nice car, but lives in a small apartment and then I have friends that drives shitbuckets but have all the fancy toys. Your money, your choice.
Exactly , this is aimed at the more well off people that just have money to burn, this is in no way a great thing to get into for the average joe...just a plain rip off..... rip your movies and watch them on a Zidoo..or just watch it of the disc.... there is no way i would pay $15K for 22TB of storage... and that is at the lower end.. no thanks for me... if you can afford it all the best to you all..
You’re correct! $3995. Is way to much money for this simple device with its a very inexpensive transformer to convert from 120 AC volts to DC voltage it’s way overpriced. It shouldn’t be more than $250 to $500.
@@rayc9838 You can build an online store that allows you to download disc-quality movies at the touch of a button? One that gives you access to disc quality downloads BEFORE DISCS COME OUT? Whoa!
I’ve had my Strato V about two weeks. It’s fantastic. The remote was working fine. All of a sudden I have to double click every button for it to work. Any idea how to fix this? I’ve emailed Kaleidescape; just waiting for their response.
As usual, great content. You’re the best. You should open a school for theatre enthusiasts, but then again, here you are. Some of us do have the funds, as do I, but, I will save my bucks. Still too expensive.
This is the best Scenario for this company... Sell the unit "player" for say $1000 make it able to put your own external drives on it like Zidoo ... People then will most likely download movies from them because they know its good quality..... simple .. but Kaleidescape want their cake and eat it too , making this into a "rich man " toy that most will not buy because it way out of reach..
Your scenario will never happen because the studios will not allow it. if you were able to download legally movies to a standard hard drive, you would be able to take that file, upload it to any files sharing service and give it away for free. The studios would absolutely never allow that to happen. the only reason the studios will allow Kaleidescape to distribute their media is because of their proprietary hardware and software that encrypt those files to prevent them from being distributed.
@Youthman yes true I see where you're going with this ... but I think if you paid for it, it should be your property ... because if this company ever goes down you can say bye bye to all the movies you just bought.
Is that true youthman? Will you loose your movies? I mean, I know the answer, but remember when Bruce Willis had a dispute with Apple about his music. If he passed away, he wanted his kids to have his music. I don’t remember the outcome
The same could be said for voodoo, Netflix, Apple TV. If any of them goes bankrupt, so does all of your media. We don’t own any of our media, even physical media. You have a license to view it. That’s why there is an FBI warning at the beginning of the movie stating it’s illegal to copy movies.
When I’m allowed to own the movies I purchase I would get the new player. Price is more reasonable and the idea is great. But I don’t own the movie if I can’t watch it where I want.
You don’t own your Blu-ray, your 4K, or your DVDs. That’s why there’s a FBI warning at the beginning of the movie that says you absolutely cannot copy the movie for any reason or you’ll go to jail. Granted they’re not going to enforce it, legally you don’t own that even though you purchased it. You have a license to view it.
@@Youthman I don't see why you're being intentionally dishonest when you know better. Physical media is not a license to view it, it's a physical product you own. That's precisely what makes it different than streaming.
You really should do your homework before you accuse me of being intentionally dishonest. “When you buy a Blu-ray disc, you own the disc, but you don't own the underlying copyright rights to the content on it. For example, if you buy a Blu-ray of a movie, you can watch it yourself, but you might have limited rights to do anything else with it. To protect your material, you can register it with the United States Copyright Office. The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) is an industry group that develops and licenses Blu-ray Disc technology. They also establish format standards and promote business opportunities for Blu-ray Disc. “ my.wlu.edu/general-counsel/answer-center/copyright-and-intellectual-property/copyright-guidelines-for-showing-movies-and-other-audiovisual-works#:~:text=When%20you%20buy%2C%20rent%2C%20or,are%20very%20limited%20by%20law.
@@Youthman I like how you didn't refute anything I've said, even showed that I actually own my Blu rays. You always have the most ridiculous takes when anyone says anything negative about scape. I'm starting to think you're financially tied to the brand in some way.
Realize I have hundreds of comments I reply to every day. Most of the time it’s short and sweet. No monetary ties. I just don’t understand the negativity. I’ve never been mad at Ferrari because they don’t have a $40,000 version. The only time I’ve ever been paid from Kaleidescape is when I provide booth coverage at CEDIA.
Zidoo still requires you to RIP, this allows for download in full res unlike any other (legal) service. There are many releases that are faster than DVD (and some 4k specials that are otherwise not available).
I'm sure they're working on expanding into more countries, but the prohibiting factor is the studios granting them access to become a licensor in other territories. They need to see the potential user base in those areas worth the cost of licensing enough content to make it a profitable venture.
@Youthman you can still get super high speeds over wifi. Sure, the drop off over distance is still significant, but some of us have our routers in other areas. I have 1 G fiber, and the modem and router are in the living room. They had to drill a hole through my living room wall to connect to that spot. My home theater is in the basement. So if I wanted it, it would be a decent project to run am ethernet cable to the basement and make it look good. We're just talking about the base unit. With the drop-off in speeds over wifi, say I have to wait 30 minutes to download a movie instead of 10 minutes. Something that can be easily planned ahead. As of now, even if I wanted it and decided to pay the $4k for the unit, it's not even an option for me.
I have a gaming PC hooked up to my home theater also. It's a high end rig, with a 7800X3D and RTX 4090. No difference between that and downloading movies. In fact games are generally much larger in size. I download and delete titles all the time over wifi, so it's easily manageable with wifi, just takes more time.
1) blu-ray 1080p came out in 2004 or 2005 2) will this new device download movies in 4K UHD? That technology came out in 2014? 4) the average blu-ray 1080p takes up 5Gb or storage and a 4K UHD is 25Gb with that said 40 x 25Gb is 1000Gb = 1Tb.
Think the file sizes you refer to is compressed. Even the worst c-grade teen movie I have ripped was closer to triple the 5 GB you refer to, and that was just the main movie file.
Bluray come out in 2006 because I bought my first Blu-ray player in 2008 and Blu-ray movies are higher in gb I have ripped some as high as 45gb and as low as 15gb
Say you have no clue what you’re talking about without saying it. I didn’t realize you could download completely uncompressed movies onto a Vudu box. Please explain how that works.
I think we just got our answer to the question of what happened between Michael and Ryan. Becoming a dealer to compete with Ryan, probably didn’t go over too well. This guy reeks of used car salesman. His videos from now on are going to be infomercials for products he sales. Sad!
What’s sad is your assumptions. You are WAY off. Like completely. I had 4 main reasons why I chose to dissolve the partnership. None of which had to do with Obsessed Home Theater.
