Notes:
Do not install directly to studs
Shower walls are meant to be installed over water resistant greenboard, rough plumbing and fitting should be pre-installed
Steps to Install a Passage Subway Tile Shower Wall
1. Preparation
Wipe wall surfaces with a damp cloth and allow to dry - ensure alcove is plumb and square before you begin
2. Installing Rear Wall Panels
Place and tape down shims to keep a 1/8” (3mm) gap between the wall and shower base
Dry fit the bottom rear wall panel with the exposed lap joint facing you
Panels may need to be trimmed, further instructions shown in the video.
Hold the bottom rear panels in place and make a horizontal line across the top edge of the rear panel
Wipe all panels and walls with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris and allow it to fully dry
For bottom back wall panel, apply ¼” (6mm) bead of adhesive every 6” in evenly spaced vertical strips under your pencil line. Apply one row of adhesive horizontally to the top and bottom edges of the greenboard
Move bottom rear panel onto the wall, on top of previously placed shims
Press firmly on entire wall surface to ensure adhesion
Take top rear wall panel and identify lap joint
Dry fit top rear wall panel
Hold top rear panel in place and mark a horizontal line across the top edge
For top back wall panel, apply ¼” (6mm) bead of adhesive in evenly spaced vertical strips under your pencil line on top and bottom
Add adhesive to the bottom rear panel lap joint
Place top rear panel in place and press firmly over panel to ensure adhesion to wall
Wipe off excess adhesive with a damp rag
3. Installing Side Wall Panel (non-plumbing side)
Repeat the same steps used for the Rear Wall Panels (reference video for detailed view)
3b. Installing the Side Wall Panel with Shower Valve
Line up the subway panel design to match, dry fit the panel and mark a pencil line on top
If need trim panel for proper placement, follow video instructions
Measure the location of shower valve, mark the location of the shower valve on the wall panel and mark the area. Tape the marked area, then transfer the exact measurement of the shower valve location onto the tape. Drill holes using large hole saw to accommodate opening but small enough to be covered by trim. Drill only the finish tile side
Dry fit the wall panel and ensure proper area for shower valve.
Apply adhesive as before and align side panel - press firmly to ensure adhesion
4. Applying Sealant
Apply tube and tile sealant to all corners, seams and gaps. Wipe access adhesive from the panel with a damp rag
Allow 24 hours for sealant to fully dry
