This video demonstrates how to install a wireless remote starter on a vehicle. This was my first time doing this so it was a test to see how user-friendly the kits are for home installation.
Great breakdown! One day I hope to be able to do this on my own. I'm having a friend of my brothers' whose installed a remote start for him before. I had decided, kinda late and last minute to want to get a remote start finally for my wife's car. I hope he does a good job. It's gonna be slightly over a week after her birthday. But she doesn't know I'm doing it, so I hope she's pleasantly surprised and pleased. 🤗🤗
You obviously are very knowledgeable about auto electronics. I'm pretty sure the average person could not install this even with the bulldog manual. But your video makes it very possible for the average person to do this. thank you
@@TheCousinDan Great video. Im planning to buy one and put it in one of my dads car, his audi already has the whole 9 yards of the system installed. Installing another one in antoher car. Did you use the Blade AL bypass module?
It's more of a guy thing than a female thing. Guys are more left brained than women. Yes many women have left brained abilities (such as myself). I think it's related to the amount of testosterone in the brain and/or body. Scientists say there's no real proof that there's a "left and right brain" for knowledge but it's evidentally clear that some people are very mechanical and many are not.. because those people are crafty and musical and stuff like that.
Very nice video. Well done. I just pulled an 8 year old Bulldog unit out that's been collecting dust. As an engineer, I'm trying to test this out before I install it. I don't know the theory of operation but it my mind the constant power should be the power source that the bulldog supplies to send the starter relay 12v as well as powers the accessories, such as the blower motor, and also powers the parking lights. I have it on my bench and can't get 12V out of anything. The only thing I have connected is constant 12v and ground. If anyone has a clue, let me know. I'm about to dump it as faulty. Maybe my head is faulty.
In a basic sense, the Remote Starter Module simply tells the car to turn on, so most of the power is handled through the factory system itself. The exceptions are for parking lights (used to show the status of the RS when you attempt to start with the remote) and possibly door locks (if your RS is equipped to lock and unlock the vehicle). The other items you listed are all powered through various accessory channels within the vehicle. Most connections on the RS are safety things, such as the hood pin, trunk latch, and typically the door latches
You are definitely correct the Compustar Manual seems a bit confusing, with Positive and negatives on the wiring diagram but, I'm going to order one for my 2001 Nissan Sentra and I too shall make a video. I know this is an old video but, my only recommendation would be to put a fuse at the battery on your blue wire so that if anything grounded out along the way it would pop the fuse before it melted the wire and possibly start a fire. IE -- from rubbing or anything like that.
Blue wire is absolutely wrong…anytime you grab power from any source (ie. battery) fuse must be within a few inches. What do you think would happen if your un-fused blue wire rubbed on the radiator support with engine vibration? Short would cause excessive heat…then fire
Nice video you understand how the system work most remote start unit no installation even tho it's your first time install great job but i would spend extra 10 dollar on better keys transponder without having to leave they keys
I have a manual transmission that forces me to put the car in reverse to remove the key. I do however have a broken key that I can jam into (and leave in) the ignition to start it. Wonder if I could make this happen
I bet someone has already pointed it out but your break controller isn't mounted right. It has to be mounted horizonal to detect inertia from your breaking.
when I get around to this myself, I will be referencing this video, my god you did an excellent breakdown and how to test each step. I'm working on a new headhunt (stereo) and steering wheel control mod first. I assume you hid the key deep inside the dash so someone can't grab that and start it since you'd need the remote fob to start it? edit: typo regarding the hidden key
Hi. Thank you the video was very informative. Quick questions. You must use a key to unlock the steering wheel. What happens if the key is chipped? As in in there is two chips now. If you don't use the remote start is the chip bypassed anyway? Must you use one key if you do and another if you don't? Contused.
The system will work with multiple keys present. Rental car companies do this a lot for some unknown reason. They put both factory keys on the same keychain and it works fine. You do this and you will always bypass the immobilizer, but another chipped key won't hurt anything
Once a bypass is installed, especially the type that he used which is universal and has an actual chipped key within it from that point it doesn't make a difference whether you have another chipped key in the ignition or have a key made at your local home Depot or Lowe's or whatever. Any key at that point will work to unlock your steering wheel and be able to drive the vehicle whether chipped or not because the "installed" chipped key will always be sending a signal to the lock cylinder, unless the module goes bad or the transponding ring moves away from the ignition enough to cause an interruption
Hey nice video.! I was wondering if you could give me an advice. I'm trying to do it in my car. I bought a 925s w/keyless. My car it's a 2019 toyota highlander but i I don't know how to start. Any information would be really helpful. Thank you.
What immobilizer bypass did you purchase? Want to get the same one for my system, plan on installing soonish. Great video, clear shots and great commentary. Thank you
Also dude you do k ow that light switch comes out near driver door right. if remeber correctly you with push in and turn or you either twist an pull out an itll pop out but you do have to twist it
When i disconnect the positive and negative. My remote doesnt start the car anymore. Starter crank for couple second then stop. Can you show a video how to troubleshoot that?
Instead of sacrificing a key for the bypass, or having to buy a new key, could you use two keys, and keep one in the ignition, lock it, then use the remote start?
Yeah, probably. But then all a thief has to do is smash the window and he has your car. I'd rather it be hidden way under the dash in a little non-descript box...and then you still have to have a key to physically turn the ignition column as well.
You should have fused the blue wire at the battery. If you somehow shorted out the bolt and nut connector, the car would be on fire in seconds. Otherwise, it looks good.
Also should have used larger wire for the blue. If you have 2 wires with potentially 30A going through connected to 1 wire, that wire should be able to handle 60+ amps. I don't think that blue wire could..
Hey great video but just wondering because it wasn't mentioned (unless I missed it) do you still need to unlock the car with an original key or can you re-program the starter key... anyone? Thanks in advance
So when you use the remote start to warm up, when you get in the car to put the key in, does it automatically shuts off so you can start using the key? Or do you press the brakes?
I wired it exactly how you did on a 08 expedition. When I turn it off with the control the lights radio and A/C stay on. Also when it turns off after 15 minutes, all the functions stay on. Lastly I am unable to start it with the key, remote start only. If you can help me figure out what I did wrong I would greatly appreciate it. I am afraid it’ll leave me stranded somewhere. Thanks.
Lol the battery run for a remote starter... I'm glad you solder your stuff though. So many I see come into our shop with not a lick of solder. The worst is when people drill through the firewall and just run a power wire for an Amp through it no grommet and connect it fuseless to the battery.
I saw a truck catch on fire from something like this... big 2 gauge wire just fed through the firewall, the guy who installed it had the fuse inside the cab... not between the battery and the firewall.
@@Oddman1980 novice here. Why does the fuse placement make a difference? If it's in the circuit won't it blow no matter what? Is it because if the fuse breaks, then the circuit could still be shorted out inside the engine compartment because the fuse break happened in the cab? (I may have started understanding as I was typing this LOL)
@@kona702 If the fuse is on the power wire, and the power wire shorts out, the fuse blows. If the fuse is on the ground wire, and the power wire shorts out... then the power wire is still hot and will continue to short to ground until it burns in two. If the fuse is in the cab, and the wire shorts to the hole cut in the firewall... then effectively there isn't a fuse.
@@Oddman1980 Thanks! As I was typing my question, that's exactly what I started thinking. The fuse might protect the equipment from a short, but the wire is still shorted out from the power to the cab/firewall because the fuse is farther down the line. Got it!
He did not. The remote starter had fuses on each supply wire so that is protected. If the supply wire from the battery to the controller shorts somewhere before that, then it will melt, burn, start on fire or just open. Good point to make and a good place to fuse it would be at the source.
Lots of people saying hate. I just want to say I appreciate your video and I'll chew the meat and spit out the bones. I like that you did it yourself with no knowledge. It works so f the haters(even if they had really good points) 👍 good video bro
Haha, thanks! The best hater comment really isn't a hater comment. Some said I should have shown the addition of a fuse off the battery and they are 100% correct! Thanks for watching.
Hi could you please help me to fix my remote starter (code alarm ca5055) to f150 2011 truck. Now i connected my ignition harness and brakes only , and it is working . But i need to leave a key in the key swich for remote start. Otherwise not start. I think some wrong wiring. I didn't cut the starter wire just joint the starter wire to that. Please help me to fix which wire connect to which colour. My truck Ignition harness wires are ign + white/orange, acc + purple/green, starter + Light blue/white, blue/gray, green/ red, white/ brown. Transponder wires are PATS power purple/ orange, ground black, TX data yellow/ orange, RX data purple/gray. Remote starter main wires are Tach input purple/white Start status/ active output(-) blue/black Factory DISARM/ active output(-) grn/blk Pulse after shutdown (-) green/ white Pulse during crank(-) black/ yellow Factory ARM/ Pulse after start (-) lt blue Ignition 1(+) pink Battery 12v red Ignition 2 (+) pink/ white Accessory 1(+) orange Battery 12v red/white Starter output - motor side(+) purple (Please ignore door and parking connections for now)
How do you get the beeping from the Peking light to stop? Every time I pull my key and exit the truck the radio stays on and when the doors open it keeps beeping
Hmm. I suppose it would be. But the trigger on this is for the remote, not a wired push start. You could always keep the remote on your dash... Maybe there is a version for that, but yes, a relay start should be pretty much the same.
Just installed the Crime stoppers remote on the wife's car. Uses a brain box to bypass the key detector. Much better than putting a key in a box under the dash only cost about 20 dollars more.
Hey buddy, I got one sitting in my room but once it arrived I got scared of doing it haha. Do you know if I have to do the locks and such or just wire up the remote start
@@Mr-kg5ij I would say it depends on the kit that you bought. MPC [My Parts Cart] sells one that just has one button on the remote, so you can wire it to use your factory remote to start the car. I bought mine from them and the instruction are in a PDF you down load. It is pretty detailed with pictures of the wiring for your particular vehicle.
@9 mins he said the lights came on when he disconnected the connector from the switch. In some cars you need to power the relay to turn off lights so that if the relay failes the lights will still work
Hi everybody, does anyone know how to troubleshoot or fix a message that says "command was received but vehicle did not execute the command " I have a compustar dc3 with drone as well, I can see the location and other things about the car in my phone, but can't get it to do anything with the phone or the remote
I tried to install a remote start to my car 2013 Honda Civic, but when I remote start after after a few seconds car loch the door and the engine turns off
There are systems that can be integrated with manual transmissions. The important thing is that your car has some way of sending a signal that it is in gear or in neutral. The last thing you want is for your starter to just try and try to start the car while it is parked in gear.
Actually yes you'll use the valet switch on your alarm/remote start while running in neutral with emergency brake applied an when you exit vehicle an hit lock itll kill ignition an then till remember its in neutral & itll be ready to start when you need to remote start vehicle ive done installs or custom accessories for years an I have to say for what he spent by a alarm/remote start spend that e tra few dollars an get a system that'll literally do it all touch window break cut heat an ac on can get that once it gets cold out an your car reaches certain temp itll auto start an run to keep engine warm but itll still be in alarm mode the. You habe hijacker mode so if someone try steal vehicle when you go get in it. An alot more I mean for 30 40 more you can have all that if you vehicle already has alarm but no remote start then you can still go with alarm an itll bypass factory alarm an let you have all on one remote as well as still sound you horm and the security system siren .
If you are on RU-vid to get help to install remote start… I would go to a professional. His battery lead was unfused til inside the cabin, if the protective coating comes off the wire as he described a fire is a high possibility. Lol and don’t get started on how he tied the three wires together and that thing is unfused straight to the battery!!!
@@TheCousinDan it’s possible they meant it was too complicated to save only a few hundred dollars for them. I think you did a fine job. One thing I would add is a fuse at the battery location for the power in the blue wire. This would be to protect the blue wire only if in the event of the blue wire rubbing bare to chassis ground. The controller was fused so that’s fine as you mentioned. I absolutely love that you soldered the wires. Great video.
@ 11:21, I cannot understand why you would put non-conductive grease on a ground connection inside the car. A clean, tight, bare metal connection is what is needed to provide a reliable ground. You do know dielectric grease is mad to be non-conductive, right?
Dielectric grease is not conductive, but it is designed to maintain a good connection by isolating the contact points from corrosion/oxidation. Adding dielectric grease to these kinds of connections has been done since nearly the beginning of humans using electricity.
Steering wheel lock will not matter during remote start. Once you get to your warm vehicle, you will insert the key and turn it to the on position. This will disengage the lock.
