The tape is actually for hard water and how it can meld together metal over time. It makes it so you can have a better chance at unscrewing it in the future.

I bought Uxcell 1/2 NPT Brass Mini Ball Valve shut off valve online from Walmart. It was a two pack. They both leak through the shower head and on the base of the arm, where you first screw on the shut off valve. Yes I did use teflon tape. I am thinking it leak because of the water pressure going through.

Hi There, Most likely you need a rubber washer between the ball valve thread and the shower head. Hopefully this resolves the issue!

Do you need washers in the shower flow control 1:10

Make sure to use pipe tape or pipe dope. Hope this helps!

Very helpful, thanks! If I want to find a piece of hardware that looks exactly like the one in the video, what should I search for? I've been googling "shower head shutoff valve" but my results seem to be full of diverters and flow-control valves that only slow the flow to a trickle, not complete shut-off. Thanks in advance if you have any suggestions!
