My biggest pet peeve is long intros and people talking about irrelevant stuff in tutorials... So in all my videos I get straight to the point and then put in some blah blah blah at the end.
Thanks for the great video. I was changing out the bulbs for a friend who was struggling with it. I knew there had to be something else holding the lens assembly besides the two nuts. It was just as I expected. Two pressure nipples making it difficult., but finally got it off and repaired.
That's awesome that you got it out I'm glad I could help. Next time I change it I want to try a suction cup handle on the lens hopefully that will help get it out
Great video but as others have discovered removing the cluster is often very difficult but after experimenting I finally found a repeatable method to remove the rear cluster. First remove the 2 retaining nuts from the back of the unit and unplug as shown then gently slide a luggage strap behind the front and another behind the rear of the light unit. Then pull both straps at the same time from the back of the car. This is similar to the solution posted elsewhere using zip ties but the luggage straps are far stronger and give you more leverage. No heat or hammers required. Good luck.
Wow, watched this video, said to myself... Yeah, this is simple enough. I went to Advanced Auto Parts, got the bulbs, replaced the bulb and light went off. Within 30 minutes, job complete. This video was PERFECT, thank you!
This taillight must have already been loose for you to get this off prior to the video because I followed to the T and it's not coming out. Nut are removed.
One thing that may help is heating up those rubber plugs to help with removal. I did this video in the summer time and it was tough to pull out but not terribly difficult no sledgehammers were needed. But winter time maybe a different story

I don't know if there is a difference between left hand drive and right hand drive Elantra's. I live in Australia and on my 2016 Elantra, there's two nuts and some sort of white clip. That white clip is the problem, it will not budge. I cannot get the tail light cover off. I watched the 2017, and that looks closer to my Elantra. But still no white clip.
I installed a single contact bulb instead of a double ended one just to try out if it works. To my surprise it did but the other to lights next to it wont work until its night and the headlights are on. I guess the double ended bulbs help turn the other two brake lights turn on
Replacing a brake light bulb shouldn't be this hard. Mine is seriously stuck. Replacing the front bulbs was nothing. Before posting this video you must've been at it for hours with your brake lights. As for me I've officially run out of patience. I appreciate your help, but I'm off to the mechanic. I'll pay them to cuss at it.
Same, I live in Australia. I don't know if there is a difference, between, left hand drive and right hand drive Elantra's. . . BUT there's some white coloured clip, that's stopping me from getting the back light cover off. I gave up, I tried for an hour too get this clip undone. Plus there's no mention of this clip in all the videos I watched.
Anybody have a third light in the cluster. Mine is out and it looks weird. I want to replace but bobody is bringing it up as something that meeds replacing
You may be able to use a plastic pry bar but I found if you can just get a little bit of wiggling and pulling straight back like in the video is the best way.
@@austinduff7317 I've gone out to do it twice and I couldn't get the light unit off. I like this video because of how he instructs us to remove it from that clip. I saw another video on youtube. That one the guy used shoelaces to wrap around the taillight assembly unit to remove it. I'm determined to spend the rest of my afternoon getting that taillight assembly out!lol. its that clip at the front that makes it so hard. I like how he explained the procedure to remove the taillight assembly,
You made it look so easy. Then I gave it a try. Been trying for an hour and a half. I don’t want to give up because I need a brake light but damn. Great video on how to do it but when it’s the first time it’s being taken off the car it’s on there tight.
Another hack that I found is using a small suction cup handle when you're pulling directly back make sure you're doing circular motions to pop those plugs out.
No actually that was the first time we pulled that off. It's all about the finesse gradually pull and go in circular motions to pop those rubber nipples out

One thing that I thought about after I made this video is that those rubber gaskets that hold the light in will be harder in colder weather. It might be a good idea to put a heater or blow dryer on it to soften them up. Disregard this if you live in a warm place...lol
Well, I took mine out... it only took me 10 minutes, but i dropped the entire case. Now, it is going to cost me 100 plus dollars to replace it 😂😢 That shit is tight and takes lots of force to remote it and is hard to hold at the same time. My suggestion is to have someone else be next to you, so if the case slips out of your hands the other person can grab it. Also, dont use uniform while doing it 😂😂😂... get comfy clothes... hard work to pull it out.
After over an hour and a half I finally got it off and broke the clip you warned us of. Oh well though at least it is back on and next time it will be easier to take off. Clip shmip who needs it? Lol
My next video I want to make is using a suction cup handle I found on Amazon to be able to pull directly back without the clip breaking. And you can always duct tape it back on lol
@@fix_stuff_make_stuff i have tried for hours and full force to slide it back but it’s stuck i almost wanted to smash the light so bad its freaking annoying tried wity zip ties too and whith shoe lace check everything on youtube but still didnt came in
@@fix_stuff_make_stuffit's very cold. Just had snow too. I finally got it off after an hour. I'm a big strong guy and I struggled. 😅 Used a circular motion and even the duct tape on the lens to pull trick that others posted and no luck. Finally it came off. But thanks for posting this video. Mechanics charged a friend a $125 in labor to do the same thing.
@@michaelshawjr66 I started getting a lot of comments that it's hard around winter time I think that the rubber gaskets get much harder in cold weather and you might be able to soft them up with a hair dryer or pull it into a heated garage.

Another useless video. My taillight will not come off no matter what I do. Where is a video for this problem? I have everything removed and using all of my strength and wigling it I can't budge it.
