this looks easier than I thought, thanks for the video, I'll be doing this to get a doulbe socket (usb and 12v) that is closer to my steering wheel on my passat b6, I hate it that it so far down, and i use a modulator so it's alwas a bother because it's interfeering with the gear shifter.

I have one of these. ON my one (and I suspect they are all the same, but do check if you have one) both USB ports are actually 1amp even though one says 2.1 amp. Other than that these are good, but I ended up getting a dual 2.4 amp USB plug that goes into the 12v 'lighter socket' and use that instead.

No the same car, but I installed Q plate wireless charging into the little recess at the bottom of the dash, a bit like where you pulled out the plastic to remove the tray unit. Don't even have to plug my phone in, it charges every time it's placed there.

Need your expertise, 07 Camry would just like to make the two sockets on the console "always on" would you be able to help with instructions. I'm somewhat handy so I think I can follow most step by step if it's easier for you to explain that way

Pretty cool. Yesterday i mounted a EXTRA cigerate lighter. Kind of the opposite of this video. I bought a xm radio kit to add to radio and it needs to plug into a cigerate lighter to work.wierd. Btw, some gps need cigerate lighter plugs, may be best not to remove it. That usb adaptor like this video shows is a very nice option. If i add one, maybe put it somewhere on center console ;) i thumbs up

Excellent video! just finished installing in my daughter's car. question, I want to install one in my car but I want to keep the cigarette connection for my air pump. can I still tap into the cigarette wires, like the way it's done in this video? my worry is I overload/overheat the amp/wires. any help would be appreciated.

Can I just cut the factory wire and connect red with red & black with black ? That way more easy since I don’t use the cigarette charger anymore .

My brother passed down to me his 2006 Avalon did not come with a cigarette lighter or any USB power outlet. Weird in my opinion. But never complain about a running car gift.

Nice video, I have 3 socket extending unit that plugs into the existing cigarette lighter socket giving me 2 extra when I plug into this, Is it possible to wire the 3 socket extending unit using a relay type switch to actually give me 3 extra sockets.? I'm thinking that if I did this the power would have to come from the battery direct with inline fuse fitted, or could I actually change the 3 socket adapter direct to the existing socket Thanks Shaun.

What's up this question might sound remedial but I'm stumped, I have an 03 dodge Durango it has a cigarette lighter ran direct to the battery (stock) and when I'd plug in a usb adapter for a phone it would illuminate and show the plug lit up, id plug in chord , when I then plug in the phone the charging light would shut of and no power to my phone ? Don't cannibalize the ground....just use a nearby trim screw with ring terminal..

usually on older cars the whole idea is GET off the ciggaret lighter wiring.. The wiring in my 30 year old Jeep for the cig lighter is thin ass like 20ga wiring.. not enough power for a cell phone.. So its not quite as simple as in your video. You should wire the new charger directly to the battery with proper sized wiring

Hey there! I have a 1992 chevy silverado and I want to install one of these but keep the stock cigarette lighter in place and not have the USB charger on all the time. Can I install a 12V toggle switch inline between my existing cigarette lighter wires and the USB charger? if so, will any automotive 12V toggle switch work and do I have to install a 10 amp fuse inline before or after the toggle? I probably won't use them both at the same time so I'm not worried about blowing the fuse. I have some decent room to mount both a toggle switch and the USB adapter below my old stock stereo location. Thanks for your help

Can someone help me? Is it possible that with a crimp connector, the resistance can be higher than normal (compared to that of a good solder joint) and as such might draw more current which could reduce the effectiveness of the charger resulting in slower/less effective device charging?

i have a question...im have an ipad mounted into my dash as a replacement to my radio...to make everything flush i ran the wires behind the dash..now my issue is as of right now im using a portable charging block to charge my ipad because when i use my cig usb adapter plug and connect my ipad it puts off this static through the speakers...is there anyway to get rid of that because i want the ipad to charge when i turn my car on by the cig lighter..instead of using a charging block and having to keep charging the block everytime it runs empty..if i connect a 12 volt usb charger to the car will that fix my issue and how can i do that and still retain my cig lighter because again i want everything flush and as of right now the charger is wired through the bottom of the dash to the cig plug or charging block.
