Thanks for sharing your knowledge mate, as someone relatively new to plumbing I have picked up some really useful tips from you. One thing I do when testing sink waste for leaks is start with a small amount of water ran into sink with plug in the closed position, then open plug/pop up waste to check for leaks before giving it a large amount of water to deal with, this way if I have a leak from waste I don’t have a large amount of water on floor/to get rid of, hopefully that makes sense and is of use to someone.
I really like the way you reiterate to plan everything and mark measurements; that’s probably got to be the take home point. Having done several diy jobs that’s the number one point to always bear in mind, it ensures the job gets done smoothly and enjoyably.
I'm Laughing and learning a lot thanks James this knowledge is indespensible to someone who's just starting to do my own full bathroom fits after watching as a Labourer..Nice One
The way we put plumbers putty in the US is put it at the very top piece of the drain in the sink then have a rubber gasket at the bottom of the basin so the over flow doesn't leak. Plumbing seems very different in the UK from how we do things in the US. Love your vids. Keep up the good work
I get why you do that because porcelain sinks can be out of shape naturally from when they are made and dried in the oven and the sink waist dosn't always sit flat ! 👍🇬🇧
Hi. I followed your video to fit new vanity in bathroom and it was a great help, many thanks. Really good. However, one thing I found was I had to cut sink waste to run a new piece and the inside of pipe was lined in a horrible gunky slime(biofilm?). This went all way down pipe further than I could reach to clean. Could you recommend a cleaner to use to clean inside waste pipes? Thanks.
first time this week putting in vanity unit feel a lot better after watching james with some fantastic tips will be keeping the video on while fitting fingers crossed?
I love watching this and knowing the Customer wouldn’t be able to do this straight off the cuff and show how easy this looks lol. I always use plumbers mate on basin wastes and use a washer b4 the nut to tighten up onto the mate.
I’m not sure exactly how this happens, but after years of watching your videos, I still laugh every single time you say “Hold Tight”. I wait in anticipation for it at the start of every video. Now that’s a catchphrase!
Hi plumber parts.. really enjoy the videos and find them really helpful.. any chance of doing a video on pressure testing and joist notching.. cheers thanks
I don't know anything about plumbing but for me, your videos are like those ASMR videos of women eating watermelon. So hypnotising and relaxing. Great job, James!
Very nice. I was a bit worried about installing a standard sink unit in a corner but if you can do it it must be OK. Is thereproblem with the RH handle hitting the wall?
Great Video James. My partner has asked me to replace our peddle stool sink with a vanity type sink. I'm not plumber but is it something I can do myself? Peter
Just looking ourselves for a wall mounted vanity unit with drawers and has to be a dark colour. What would you recommend and suggest? Tidy videos by the way!
Floating vanity cabinets - assuming I can't chase the masonry behind it, what's a good way to hide the water pipes coming up from the floor would you suggest? Boxing it in or use chrome tails and leave exposed? (waste pipe goes out the wall)
I put 6 wraps of ptfe tape over the trap rubber it protects it from getting cuts in it and reduces leaks .i also use white silicone to build the basin up and tthe top waste washer i throw it away as ut generally pops out at the last minutes and ruins everything.
I tend to silicon the basin unit at the front as water can come down onto the vanity unit. If it isn't well made then it will expand and look rubbish. Get some chrome pipe or chrome covers on the tails for the towel warmer Jimbo.
Saw you put a washer of some kind just before you fitted the nut. Seemed to go in between the plumbers mate and the nut? What was it? Just a plastic washer you found, or something else??
I’m making a vanity unit from scratch with a solid oak top under a square deck mounted ceramic basin, What adhesive should I use to secure the basin to the worktop please?
What is the tap called and where can I buy this from, and the vanity unit? Is there a toilet and unit with same colour to buy as well James? HOLD TIGHT
These tap pipes will get rust sometime at 10:19, in that case, do I have to remove the entire vanity. How will the plumber put his head inside to unscrew and fit new pipes?
Clicked on links for the items installed and yep there they are.... but am I being a bit thick cos there's no prices and no where to buy? So I registered and no change! Woss appnin please?
If this unit was going onto a newly tiled wall, would you do the tiling first, then fix the vanity unit to the tiled wall? Or do you fix the vanity first then tile around it?
Why don’t you connected flexi tap connector on top of isolation valve thread instead of connecting to compression straight coupling thread. Will it make no different?
im fitting a vanity unit, but the water pipes are to far from the wall (coming out of the ground) how do i move the pipes so the unit fits flush to the wall ?
Nice vid but if you don't silicone the top of the waste and just use the plumbers mait underneath, the basin can drain with the plug in as the water runs between the basin and waste. Especially if the waste hole isn't quite round
Great video as usual. Not a criticism but a few things that I would have done differently would be:- Use swept elbows on the waste fittings - less likely to get blocked in the future. Use caulk rather than silicone down the sides of the unit - easier if you / customer wants to change colour of bathroom in the future. Got a basin that fitted flush with the top of the unit - as you’ve got the unit tight in the corner you’re unable to have the small overhang on both sides which makes the basin off center to the left - some of our customers would definitely notice that! Level the unit both ways - you may have done that but it wasn’t mentioned. Anyway, great install just thought I’d give my take on it for what it’s worth.
great advice. i also noticed the basin wasn't centered either and it would forever bug me. i get it though, it would then mean the vanity would have had a small gap on the RHS.
The trouble with flexis is they all have a tiny bore at the connector ends. My bathroom was designed with a 22mm pipe from the hot water cylinder, the new combi boiler has a 15mm output 😔 but the flexi hose to the hot tap fitted a decade ago? Less than 10mm bore through the brass 😫
