I plan on using octagonal vents. But your technique is quick. Neat. And I believe that bead of sealant is worthwhile. Very nicely produced. Thank you sir.

This is great! However, how would you put an exhaust fan then the vet?

You would have to mount it from the inside.

I'd maybe suggest mounting fans elsewhere. Or maybe 2 small fans to the laft and right of the center truss?

Is this backwards? I thought the vent is always flush with the house? Or is this because it’s still under construction?

How do you do this whens theres existing aluminum siding already there?... Or is there a specific gable thats made to go over existing siding?

You would have to remove the siding. Install the new vent and then cut the siding to fit the vent. Don't use a saw to cut the siding, you should be able to cut the aluminum siding with a pair of tin snips without too much trouble. Removing the siding shouldn't be too hard to do as it is probably nailed on. The hardest part would be to get the first piece off. Then remove the nails from the next peice. I hope this helps.

It depends on several things, how big, what is the framing like and so on. It would be hard to say without looking at it. Probably not replacement windows, but maybe a regular window.

Where did you get that vent? I need a back end flange since I have the stud behind the sheathing as depicted in your video. I cannot locate one in my area. Thanks.

I get mi e from a building supply company, not a lowes or home depot type. This is a store that sells siding and roofing materials. There should be one around. Look for a siding supply house for contractors. Most of them will sell to an individual, you don't have to be a contractor.

how far down from the top did you make your line?

Sorry for the delay, it has been a while since I did that job. I went back by and looked. It was about 6 to 8 inches. I hope this helps.

He picked 6 inches down from the peak but you be sure to factor in the size and shape of you vent and precisely how much distance there is between the top and bottom of your attic.

Installed it backwards. Vent should be inside the attic. I see there’s a beam blocking the hole so maybe that’s why you decided to do it backwards

It is not backwards. You don't know what you are talking about. If you installed it inside the attic, the frame that goes on last would not attach.

Can confirm. This is what happened to me. I'm trying to rig something together to make it work now cause there's no way I'm taking the siding off this 100 year old home. I'm thinking of making a wood rectangle frame and filling the void with spray foam. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what if there's existing old cedar siding. any tips on cutting a gable opening without wrecking the siding?

You would have to get a different type of vent and cut it to size. The type of vent I am using is specifically for vinyl siding. Most lumber yards should be able to tell what kind of vent to buy.

They don't make 45 foot ladders sorry and you probably won't need anything near that 24 footer will do just fine in most cases

I bought a gable vent to close off a hole in the gable where cats were getting in at. I don’t know if it will fit because I can’t get up there to measure too well.
