THANK YOU for this video! I installed a self-closing hinge on my basement door to keep my 1-year-old grandchildren from tumbling down the basement steps. I had to chisel out the hinge mortises to accommodate the thicker hinge, but that was just another web tutorial.
Another good reason for a pantry to be self-closing: the off chance you get a mouse! That happened to us last year, what a nightmare that was. Then, too, for interior garage fire doors.
Little known fact, building code requires any fire rated door (such a 20 minute door to your garage) to have a self closing hinge. Rarely installed and rarely enforced

I know this is late, but I feel like it doesn't close due to air pressure, there would need to be some cents that allow air to pass freely instead of cushion the closing door. Like a gap underneath the door.
Did you end up installing the second one? I have installed one of these on my garage door and it doesn't latch. I wonder if installing the second one will fix the problem.
@@MrGizmo211 It's the cushion of air as the door is almost closed which stops the momentum of the swinging door. Also, the springs in those hinges apply the least closing force when the door is almost closed, just at the moment when the door needs the most force to overcome the air cushion and the friction of the latch. A louvred vent in the door might overcome the lack of closing.
How you adjusted them you do just the opposite release attention on the springs take your hinges off and take your door frame apart. It’s always you work backwards, common sense.
So close to being useful but you didn't show the only part I'm confused on -- how to get the little metal pin that holds the spring in. Your hinge doesn't have the pin while you are attaching it, and then magically does have the pin after the next cut when you are on the other side of the door -- you edited out the only part of the process that is actually difficult. :(
nice video. But, you really really really should have taken more time to demonstrate the adjustment process. Watching, I didn't actually see you adjust anything especially with that little pin??
Come on! If you can't figure that out you should not be handling tools. The Allen key holds the tension until the pin is placed into one of many holes in the barrel of the hinge.So, you increase tension, inset pin, remove Allen key and re-insert to apply more tension as you remove the pin and put it in a different hole.
