what a great video. I wish I could get my roofer to watch it. Thanks for the introduction to the o'hagin vent. This is exactly what I need for my very old, poorly ventilated house

I didn't know about these vents until this video. I just had my roof redone and I specified the O'Hagin vents to be used. They have just been installed, and they look fantastic! I requested the shingle-over install like in the video. The vents blend in really well with the roof. I had Malarkey Legacy shingles in Silverstone color installed and had them use the light gray O'Hagin vents. I could not be happier with the results, and all because of this video. Thanks! 😀

Nice video. I don't see why the mastic should go over the underlayment unless it is I&W shield. Any water under the underlayment will go into the attic. Underlayment is penetrated by thousands of nails and so is not a reliable water barrier. How about putting a bead of sealant vertically a bit underneath the shingles to ensure no lateral seepage?

Was looking on youtube for a O'Hagin vent (on a roof quote I got) and came across this video. Very informative and see the quality of your install. Wish you were up here in the 650 area code (bay area). I'm replacing a roof and installing solar. Didn't like the quote sfrom the contractors that does both. They either didn't give details on the or the solar. Should I consider hiring a roofer and then go with Tesla to do the solar?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist 2 года назад
That's probably what I would recommend. Solar guys usually don't employ roofers, they usually sub contract the roofing out. I think hiring a reputable roofer and having them coordinate with the solar company, Tesla or whoever would be your best bet.

@@RoofRepairSpecialist thank you for you quick reply. I saw another video where you mentioned being an owens corning installer. Must be good stuff. All my quotes have been GAF or Certainteed but will see about getting a quote on OC. Have a great week!

Are there pitch limitations to using low-profile roof vents? The roof replacement I am designing only allows for a 1/2" per foot pitch increase from the existing flat roof.
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist 4 месяца назад
This vent is definitely not for that. I think the minimum is 2/12 pitch.

I have those vents but they look like they’re closed .how do you open ?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist 2 года назад
These vents are static, meaning they do not open or close, they are always open.

My only question is how do you prevent rodent and animal intrusion?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist 2 года назад
The vents have built in screens that prevent rodents getting in. Most new vents do.

After installation do I expect to see dim sunlight through the low profile vent once I enter attic?

I think depending on the time of day and angle of sun, yes

can we add solar panels on top of these vents?

Yes.

@@RoofRepairSpecialist Does adding a solar panel on top of the vents creates any problem to either the roof vents or panels?Just wondering, what if we need to remove/ replace the vents if something is wrong.

Only issue I have with this is ice backing up in that opening

I'm not sure how these vents preform in ice/ snowy conditions.

How much square foot of space is the vent good for. Also if the vent is considered as a air intake do you need a exhaust on top of roof?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist Год назад
That is a difficult question to answer. Depends on the state and the codes you have. California has two options for venting, 1) intake and exhaust 1/150 2) Cross venting is 1/300. You can use Ohagins as Intakes and exhaust, depending on where you place them. Intake at bottom exhaust at top. Here is a calculator that would help. ohagin.com/vent-calculator/

Whats the best place to install them?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist 11 месяцев назад
That is a complicated question. If you have eave vents and are using them as a exhaust then within 2 ft of the ridge. If you don’t have eave vents then I think the 1/3 down from the ridge in a staggered pattern. You don’t want them back to back
@letsrock8194

Can you use O”Hagen as an intake vent?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist Год назад
You can, it does meet code, however it doesn't preform the best as a intake from what I have heard. However don't know for certain, more hear say.
@EstateFlip
@EstateFlip Год назад
Could you install this along with a ridge vent.. or is it one or the other?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist Год назад
You can install both, especially if these vents are lower on the roof and act as a intake. However it is not the best solution as these vents are not the best intake vents. Venting is complicated and a whole science behind it.
@EstateFlip
@EstateFlip Год назад
@@RoofRepairSpecialist Oh, if you don't have one, could you please make a video on installing the best intake vents for your roof? 🙏🙏🙏 That would be a great video! What is the best intake system you would use with either a ridge vent or a low profile vent?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist Год назад
I do have a video on a Owens Corning Intake Vent. My favorite intake vents however are not even on a roof, it would be a soffit/ eave vent. I plan on doing a video eventually on venting science, however I still need to do some learning myself, venting is a complicated business.

what a goof as you first determine where the rafters are and go in between them.. Yeah, it's bulletproof but you can also run shingles on top of the o'hagin so water or snow don't sit behind o'hagin in a channel;; another thing; its for looks and how it's supposed to be done.... Don't let this dude show you how to do one on a Tile roof lol
