I have a two car, one story detached garage and have insulated/sheet rocked the walls. I am going to insulate the roof this weekend and not the ceiling. Everything I have read and every contractor I talked to has said that I need rafter vents/baffles from the soffits to the ridge vent only if I am putting insulation in the rafters. Which I am. Is there a reason that you put in rafter vents/baffles if you are not insulating the roof? A problem I am having is that the garage rafters are 2x4 and not 2x6. Putting in the rafter vents takes some of the space but to keep it simple I am using 2x4 wall insulation (faced batt/roll) and just sucking up the R value loss. We are in N Alabama and not N Ohio.
Question here , in my garage i have 3 vents over the ceilings, do i cover them with insulation or do i cover just around them living the vent open ? And what about the poli ?
