Mk3 Golf Cabrio owners: out cars have two additional motor mounts. They use bushings similar to the rear lower control arms. Before you can lift the motor you have to disconnect them as well. One is on the transmission and connects sort of under the batter tray. The other is on the same site with the serptine belt, sorta under the intake arm.

Hey if anyone was wondering. When then showed how to swap the trans mount they didn’t show/tell you everything. Firstly the top bolt is actually a 17mm head not a 13. They only say to remove 3 bolts for the trans bracket and that’s right but they didn’t tell you that you had to disconnect 2 of the shift linkages that are connected to the mount. It’s very simple you need to unclip them by hand and you use a flat head to spread it out so you can take them off by hand. Very simple but if they are old it’s a good idea to get new ones in case you snap them when you take them off. Also make sure you take the last 2 bolts out of the trans bracket from the top with the support of the jack underneath the trans. If you don’t do this you will be crushed by the trans. Also when you are removing the 2 13mm nuts from the mount itself. You should remove the one closet to the tire first while you’re under the car. Then after you get the trans bracket out you can easily access the 2nd bolt right from the top with a ratchet.

Bro I just finished the shift linkage on my 97 Jetta and people say it’s a lil hard but it wasn’t too bad. Now it’s time to swap motor mounts.

you guys should do a video on the suspension bushing kit for these cars. It was kinda disappointing to open the box and realize they didn't come with instructions

PSA - The FRONT LOWER MOTOR MOUNT is 41ft lbs. - straight from the bentley. I, just two weeks ago, lost a lower front motor mount - already angry enough, i ordered a new one...installed it when it got here - to the recommended 18ft/lbs - with loctite this time - and still the bolt loosened from my drive to work and back, which is about 15-20m each way. I've been searching high and low for an answer as to what could be the cause for this lower bolt to be loosening...other than 18ft/lbs not being very tight, and the obvious terrible bumps and whatever else, of my city's roads. I asked BFI CHAT - any ideas what could be the cause of this? (stating ive followed installation instructions to the T, a second time) - to which they replied. "Hello.. Have you tried tightening more than 18ftlb" ...i replied no, as 18 is the recommended torque via this video. I was then again told "Try tighening it more" Referred to a bentley and go figure - 41ft lbs for the lower bolt. Just so nobody else loses a lower mount and has to shell out unnecessary cash to replace it.

Apologies for that misunderstanding. Our torque spec is 38 ft lbs for that bolt, and unfortunately we are unable to edit the video after it has been posted

Ever have that feeling where you're pissed off at a good friend? yea that was kind of it xD..my new bottom bolt is blue loc-tite'd in at 41ft lbs - took no chances. Maybe put updated information top line of the video description? ****WARNING**** - should catch some eyes atleast. All is well, Cheers!

@@donmowatt too late for me as well, lost a perfectly good delrin front motor mount. I'll be going back to VF engineering motor mounts after this happened TWICE to me with the BFI motor mounts. BFI had refused to send me a new one. Never had an issue with BFI before, but I will never buy their motor mounts ever again.... their shift knobs however I still appreciate.

@@JamezXMShorts brutal...i drive an mk7 gti stock now but my mk3 still has the bfi mounts on it...meh...havent checked it in a good while but 41ft/lbs held tight as far as i remember ....after this whole incident i was checking my front bolt after almost every drive for awhile.

PSA FOR CORRADO OWNERS: You will most likely have to remove the cv axle to get to the transmission mount

Do I need to remove the engine mounts to replace the driver side lower control arm? Or is there an easier method to do this? I notice the transmission's on the way with the pivot bolt of the control arm, thanks!

is the process for the trans mount different on an auto, because the shift cable is fixed to the top of the bracket?

These are excellent for that. We would likely suggest the "Stealth" Mount Kit as that will offer a substantial upgrade over stock, but still keep vibration to a minimum.

When do you re-install the transmission bracket? and when do you re-install the 2 bolts on the rear engine mount? Video just shows them being taken off.

It's extremely hard to get a shot of that bracket but you replace and torque those bolts before torquing the larger top bolt.
