A fabric cover that isn’t ventilated can be more detrimental than using no cover at all, as condensation and heat can cause a lot of damage. Install vents in fabric covers to provide proper ventilation and truly protect your covered goods. In this tutorial video, we will show you how to install a boat vent near the top of a fabric cover’s side panel. These vents are perfect for many applications, including boat covers, RV covers, grill covers, patio covers and more.

I have both the corded and cordless hot knives from Sailrite, and they are both great tools. However, there should be a warning that the cordless version does not work for a left-handed person because there’s a safety button near the trigger that can only be pressed by your right thumb. If you’re lefty you have to defeat the the safety button or the tool is inoperable.

What kind of needle is used for this? I can't imagine that needle lasts beyond this single job punching through semi thick plastic.

We used the same needle to make an RV cover, about 64 yards of fabric and sewed in 4 of these vents and it is still working great. That is over 4oz of thread or 1350 yards of thread on one needle.
