My windows are on the INSIDE of the boat with a screen on the outside. It leaks at the bottom at the zipper because the screen lets water in and it lays in the gap between the outside screen/canvas and inside window/canvas. Our old boat had roll up windows also but did not leak. Not sure what needs to be done to fix this problem. ??? Any advice?
excellent content and you have an amazing shop & website. Thanks for so much great how-to help. One suggestion, the woman's finger nails are really dirty and she could have benefitted from cleaning them or some nail polish before close ups in videos were made.
I want to put a curved winndow with mesh in a tent (no vinyl) How would you combine this video with this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lb2WpVQygd0.html to do this?
I am looking at replacing the windows in the back of a canvas for a party cruiser. The current window is sown different from this application but I don't like because is leaks on the bottom corners. Can I use this application but put a zipper across the top so that window can be rolled down toward the bottom like it is now. Will there be a concern of this leaking if zipper is across top? The current top zipper doesn't leak because it is under the canvas.
Hi Stephen, Your approach sounds good. If the zipper at the top is under the canvas it should not leak. Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks, Eric
So there is no concern of water getting between the basting tapes that meet over the middle of the zipper and then leak through the zipper? Do you think it would be better if the top basting tape goes past the middle of the zipper to assure water run off? Thanks in advance for your reply.
When you say basting tapes, I think you are actually referring to binding tapes. If so, then you are correct if possible it is best to have the binding tape go past the middle of the zipper to help prevent water from leaking through the teeth of the zipper.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the video helpful. If you have any specific topics or questions you'd like me to cover in future videos, let me know!
+colin rat You are correct. We are using Tenara thread and the needle was too large (the slippery PTFE thread was not becoming bound in the hole in the fabric, it was too large). We changed the needle, after noticing the skipped stitches, to a smaller size and the issue was resolved, no more skipped stitches.
It can, but usually the heavier fabric helps clean the needle as it exits and enters the fabric. If it does gum up the needle I use a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol to clean the needle and keep sewing.
+jolange1414 This video may help with installing a screen: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lb2WpVQygd0.html It is not the same type of window, but will give you some pointers.
+Sailrite I was actually trying to put a smile shaped window/screen in a canvas panel (enclosure aft curtain), but couldn't figure it out, so ended up putting in a large rectangular window and then doing the smile zip/screen in the center of the window.
Wielkie dzięki za kanał :) Teraz już wiem jak wykonać pewne elementy naszego namiotu dachowego na wyprawy/wyjazdy. Namiot szyję domową metodą, czyli sam :) Pozdrawiam :)
