Thank you for tuning in to this video about bolt on hub caps and center caps! If you are unfamiliar with the type of systems used for keeping the hubcap or center cap on the wheel, then this is the video for you.
When you are dealing with a bolt on hub cap or wheel cap, there are few things that you need to remember. To start, it is VERY important that you do not use an impact wrench as it is very easy to strip the bolts with this particular tool. Next you need to know which type of bolt on (there are two) wheel covers that you have. 1). Yours might have fake plastic lug nuts that screw on top of the current lug nuts in order to hold the cap on. 2). You might have the kind that requires you to jack up the wheel, remove the lug nuts, install the hubcap and then put the lugs back on in order to secure the hubcap in place.

thank you, very informative. i just bought new set of hubcaps and didn't realize my versa '09 has these bolt on covers.... ugh, no wonder i could never pull them out.

Do you need special bolts for plastic bolt-on hubcaps? I'm thinking that when you bolt on the hubcap the torque will crack the plastic.

Does a Pontiac G6 have the fake plastic lug nuts?

+Julievonne The Pontiac G6 hubcaps have black plastic lug nuts that screw onto the lug nuts on the wheel. This would be referred to as a screw-on hubcap rather than a bolt-on hubcap.

My car currently has bolt on wheel covers. My question is if I can take those bolt on wheel covers off and replace them with snap on wheel covers? How does that work?

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, you can switch from a bolt-on hubcap to a pop-on style hubcap. However, we wouldn't recommend switching if you have bolt-on because pop-on hubcaps tend to fly off if hitting a pothole or different conditions of driving. Bolt-on hubcaps are held on by the lug nuts, therefore, are more secure on the vehicle.

My 2015 Hyundai Accent has a 4 lug bolt on hubcap, can I switch to a 5 lug snap on?

+SpiffyNico Yes, you are able to switch out to a pop-on hubcap. However, if the hubcap has 5 lug hole openings, it will be off since your vehicle only has 4 lug nuts. If the hubcap you are considering does not have open holes, but rather "fake" lug nuts (decorative), then it should be fine.

so whit this it would be harder to steal ? and less likely to fall off?

These are absolutely a lot harder to steal then a pop on hubcap because it takes a lot more time to remove the bolts in order to take off the hubcap. They do tend to last a lot longer then pop-on hubcaps.

If my car has bolt on hub caps but I want to put pop on hub caps will that work or do I have to use bolt on

+Mark Hamilton Typically, yes you can. However, not all steel wheels are the same. In some instances, the pop-on hubcap won't snap on because that specific steel wheel was not meant for pop-on styled hubcaps. What is the year, make and model of your vehicle, so we can better assist you?

+Ana Maria Dan Generic hubcaps and center caps can usually be found on Ebay or Craigslist. Often times, after market or custom wheel brands discontinue their wheel and caps over a period of time, which makes finding replacements rather difficult. Since we only specialize in factory caps, we usually also recommend trying a company, centercapsdirect.com, as they do specialize in custom wheel caps.
