Thank you!!! It worked exactly like you said! I'm 68 years old and did it myself. I bought 3 cobalt drill sizes - 3/16, 1/4, and 3/8. I used titanium bits for in-between sizes. After the 3/8 size, I used a 7/16 and the lug nut came off!! Never had to use the 1/2! I noticed the cobalt bits drilled much better than the titanium. You really helped me. Thank you again.

Thank YOU~ You just saved me SO much TIME! I have a cheap set of tuner lugs that just snapped in half as your shown in the beginning of your video... Now being a mechanic of 12 years added with being one of those crazy drifting, racing, and going fast fanatic, I have seen and repaired alot of stud/lug issues but... Not once did I ever think to "just chill out and drill it out!" Going to pick up a new set of drill bits today

Thanks, got a grand cherokee jeep and the same problem with 2 nuts that were over torqued. The engineer who designed theses p.o.s. caps over soft nuts should have his license revoked. I was planning to try an acetylene or plasma torch to heat the nuts up, of which I have experience with neither, so you probably helped me avoid a catastrophe or at least saved my rims. Thanks again, your video made my day.

Thanks, this worked. Kids, listen carefully when he makes the comment about having a good quality bit. I was using Titanium ones from Harbor Freight, and broke two, but still continued to make slow progress with other sizes. The next day, I went and dropped 50 bucks for a set of COBALT bits from the Milwaukee line. It still took me a half hour, but the difference was very noticeable. I don't know if it's necessary, but I read something shopping for them online that you're supposed to spray machine oil, WD40 or some kind of lubricant to protect the bits when drilling into hard metals. I would stop and spray the stud every so often- not sure if it's needed but figured I would pass it along. Good luck, you can do it!

5 minutes may be a little optimistic, but this also works great if you have a seized lug nut (well over 300 foot-pounds of torque would not break it lose, and finally the outside of the nut stripped in my case.) If you have good wheels and don't want to damage them, the lug nuts are recessed, and you can get access to the end of the wheel stud, this works great - much better than bashing and torching. I was surprised that the stud is made of a very mild steel - easy to drill, especially if you lubricate good bits with some oil periodically. Took less than 30 minutes (I had to drill out almost 3/4 inch of stud), and a lot less frustrating than breaking sockets and nut removers. Many thanks to Hammerjockey for the Video!

You are not using an old wood tool. Old has a key Chuck. Maybe you meant to say wore-out it is not old. Old stuff is direct-drive just like the picture on your keyless Chuck that has a direct-drive selection. Direct drive along always break your bit or your wrist. As you notice your bits are getting doll on high-speed use low and hang on to it I'll show you have more control aiming at the whole because you're not using the Wimpy variable grip. Use low gear. 2nd gear is for mixing paint buffing your headlight. If you have a cheap battery drill it won't hurt anything except its own Gears and Battery the worst thing about this whole project is if you break a bit off in the hole your up a creek without a paddle. Go get a beer or your friend with a cutting torch

Question if someone can answer within two days: I have this issue with my kia. I looked it at originally (months ago) and figured I'd just get an impact and a punch and knock it out the other side. Get part for ten dollars. Install. Is that not possible? The threads (i wouldn't think) would run all the way through the wheel and further back? For extra info- there is no nut left on it, the bolt is broken further back and its clear they spray painted prior to putting the wheel back on.

Instead of destroying the stud, Grab an exctractor socket. I was super lucky that i didnt have to replace the stud.
@Hammerjockeyrepair
@Hammerjockeyrepair 3 года назад
It wasn’t due to a frozen lug nut, this was a case where the entire hex section broke right off, there was no possibility of getting it off without drilling. You know the tapered part of the lugnut at the bottom that meets the wheel? That’s the part that was left on the stud, the rest of the lugnut broke off.

I had a great run with my makitas, 10 plus years, got a hardon everytime i used my impact, but then my son came of age and bought all makita tools as well, then the prick took all my batteries and swaped them with his dead ones, then i said fuckem, i took the plunge and replaced all my battery operated makitas with milwaukee's m18 line, i have to say, when my makita impact that sits on the bench cant do it, i reach for the Milwaukee and bam, astounding difference! Like i said, had a good run with the makitas, but the Milwaukee tools are noticeably better. If and when bro, dont hesitate to try the Milwaukee's.

thats the easy part. Once the wheel and brake drum is off, smack the old wheel stud into the hub, itll pop right out and slide the new one in. Use the lugnut on wheel to seat the stud all the way back in

I burn them out with torch. Never any damage to wheel, just spray with mig anti splater spray. Much faster.

Matthew Westover for sure! I’ve also put copper pipe over the lug to torch out. I just put this video out so the average joe with basic crap bits and a drill sees they can get the job done. After seeing videos of people using cutoff wheels and hatchets, I had to
