I've installed many vinyl plank floors. Cali long boards are the first time I've ever checked an installation video. These are more difficult than most similar floors. The length also makes installation more challenging.
Thanks for watching. We try to produce an installation video for each collection just in case customers don't want to rely on the instruction guide alone. It can help to see each step of the process. Depending on the milling or click-lock type, most floors have a slightly different way they like to go down. This is the technique that worked best for us, but you may discover an even better method! Best of luck with your project.
I agree too… I’ve done several LVT jobs and with Cali longboards, getting the butt ends to connect is not easy at all… it’s been a headache (and a backache) so far, and today was only the first day.
I have installed CaliBamboo. First time installing CaliVinyl Pro. Absolute Hell ! The interlock layer is so Fragile … ESPECIALLY the butt seam. The plastic breaks off, and I was merely using hands to ‘click’.
I've found it to be brittle too, and it takes a little while to learn its limitations and how it likes to be manipulated. By the last rows I had it going down pretty quickly with little breakage. Definately want to use a tapping block on the plank edges and a rubber mallet on those butt seams.
I wished I had seen this comment before I purchased 1800 sq ft. The only thing worse than installing this flooring is working with their customer service team. Im waiting for them to come look at it and return it...been waiting over 2 weeks now!!
It would be nice if the flooring came with instructions to tell you that with this style you have to start on the right side of the room--installed flooring in almost every room of our larger home and this is the first time the flooring had us start on the right. We initially started on the left side of the room...and after almost zero progress loaded up plethora of 54 pound boxes and made the six-hour round trip to our "nearest" Home Depot to return until my wife found this video and saved our souls...
We recently added QR codes to the plank cartons that take you directly to the install guides and videos. So sorry for the headache Joshua, but glad your wife cracked the code!
I understand the instructions for the first two rows, but I don’t understand the reason for having to “stagger” these rows. It seems like you could ensure appropriate spacing and length without this different process for the first two rows. What’s the reason? Thanks.
While you could install it end to end row after row, the stagger technique shown here helps ensure the first two rows are absolutely straight. If your first two rows are even the slightest bit not straight, it has a compounding effect for subsequent rows. The stagger technique has you locking together longer edges (rather than just the ends of the planks) which reduces the chances of thinks getting wonky.
Cali Bamboo flooring… I purchased over 3000 square feet of your LVP long boards and I am really struggling at door jams, cased openings etc. because typically one would just cut the door jam to the correct height and knock the LVP plank under it, but your planks require you to lift ~30 degrees upward to lock the planks into eachother. How can you lift when you need to tap the plank under a door jam? One side is easy, but then the other side of the door is impossible.
I feel you, this is the case with a lot of click flooring. Many times I found that my first solution wasn't ultimately the right one. Step back, and think about other possible ways to attack the problem, sometimes a new solution can come to you. If all else fails, you just try to get the plank in there as best you can and using a tapping block try to tap the click mechanism together and use a rubber mallet to get the click to enguage and lay flat. You may have to pul it out and try it a few times. Each time you do it gets a bit easier to work with. Best of luck!
So I’m having an issue in my basement laying cali vinyl pro. When installing the board what’s to angle up. I can’t figure out why it is doing it in some boards and not others.
Longboards and Pro are very similar but the correct install video for Pro Classic is this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xEcabwxtGIk.html
Same question here: Cali longboards come with a cushioned backing, so why is it being installed here over the Cali cushioned underlayment? Salesperson told me NO cushioned underlayment for this product. Also, here your video says the 6mil is optional, but the installation guide shows it as if it's required? Which is true? Thank you.
@@CaliFloors Yes, but it's double cushion here in the demo video. Cali complete + the mute step Longboards. A Cali rep said we couldn't/shouldn't use Cali Complete under something that already has cushion -- but that's how it's being installed in this video, against what the rep said was "correct". He said it was too thick. Please advise why the Complete and the mute step are being used together here. Thanks in advance.
This floor is a nightmare to install. Avoid getting it. Bought for my house about 2 years ago and hated the process. Now some of the planks are not staying together either.
If you are a DIYer DO NOT GET THESE. These planks are so difficult to lock together. I've installed countless floors and have never encountered anything so difficult. They also break extremely easy during installation, almost impossible to get them to lock when you are partially under a door jamb. A tapping block will break, so you have to use cut off pieces of board to hammer them into the grove. Kind of makes my job a living hell when people want these and most of the contractors in my area refuse to install them! Go with any other brand and something more flexible!
I wished I'd seen this sooner... I have over 1800 sq ft and these are the worst ever. Bad customer service too! I've installed tons of floors and never experienced anything this difficult to get locked. Going to take 4 times as long as it should and I'm worried it will still fail and I'll get a callback. Not good for DIY or contractors!
@@McCoyFamilyFarm I have installed countless floors in 35 years, and this product is the WORST. Job I recently did took 4 times as long as usual, I was beating my brains out. Never again!
Some of our floors lay left to right, while some lay right to left, but once you determine which direction it wants to go, it's the same general process either way.
