I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll mention it again. This used to be an intimidating concept to me. But since I’ve been watching your content, the confidence slowly built up and I...(drumroll please...) have now successfully hooked my entire property to a very efficient drip system ! Thanks to you guys! So to my fellow subscribers to this channel, let me encourage you: it can be done!!! Keep on with the keeping on Laura and Aaron. Thanks for the content you share to us daily. God bless
That's funny DesiLiter ! I don't need drip either but always watch everything she does! I always learn something even if it isn't something I'm doing !
TheDesiLiter Me too even though I live in Puerto Rico. But, it turns out it was useful, because I ended up doing my mom’s garden in Los Angeles where it barely ever rains.
You’re right about standing in front of all the drip hardware bins at the store ! A sketch is a good idea , and your plan for the main manifold and then 1/4 inch feeds on each is a good idea. Thank you for the great videos !
Me too! I’ve been staring at bins all summer and haven’t done anything yet. I’m not sure I’m going to use the drip emitters that you did, but essentially everything else is exactly what I need. And I might go with the drip emitters anyway in the raised beds. For the in-ground beds I think I’m going to use a flat soaker hose, but I’m still thinking on that. I hope to get this done is the next couple of weeks for the fall garden and to make sure it’s in place before next spring so that I can finally go on a summer vacation and not have to pay someone to water every day. Of course I’ll have someone check on things every couple of days. But your video was so precise on what to get and how to put it together that I feel much more comfortable about what to buy and how to do it. Thank you so much!
I'm setting up raised beds for the first time this year and have watched this video probably 6 times. The links in the description for everything I need is a God send! How easy is that! Thank you so much!!
Another tip: you can take the end of your run of drip tubing and circle back to the beginning and connect with a "T" fitting. That way you don't have to plug it and it pressure balances the whole run. Also, do you guys have a pressure reducer on that zone or is it all line pressure?
I wish I could understand what this means. Lol. This sounds like another language to me. I need a visual. Do you have any videos on this? Thanks for your help!
@@ivy4559 he said the small tubes with holes drip water they end by pinching them closed or with a cap he said instead of having them in lines, make them into loops by attaching them together, end to end, with a plastic piece called a T It's called a T because it looks like a T by doing this the whole line is the same pressure because it's one long tube when all T'd together Hope this helps!!
Every one of your drip tubing videos has been helpful. I'm a visual learner as well so the more examples the better....and you have the best examples on youtube!!
I say it often, as do others, but good gravy I love this channel!😍 Not only do I learn SO much, but the content is just wonderful to watch! It's a true joy for me, it really is. My heart and my garden have been transformed! Thank you @Garden Answer! 💜
I just want to say I really appreciate how thorough your videos are. Watching your videos feels good because your always feeding my brain with helpful tips. Thanks!
Because of your great videos, I ran drip to a landscaped area in my yard last year. What a huge difference it made!! No more lugging water! Thank you so much for taking the fear and intimidation out of projects! You’re a game changer! 💚🌱
That shade of yellow on the willow tree is the prettiest. Like I always comment on your videos, I garden in pots in the tropics nothing like you do but your energy inspires me so much. Because of your videos I could probably start an entire garden and knew exactly what I was doing 😁😁.
Oh my goodness, so helpful! I too am totally overwhelmed. We have a multi-level set of beds and I had people telling me 'no it won't go up' then others saying 'yeah it will but you need a big expensive pump' etc etc. So confusing. But I trust you guys, I know you know your stuff. Thankyou!
I can't thank you enough for doing this video! I have been looking into so many different lines and im so lost. Now i know what to look for and im so excited to not spend two hours watering. I can give my family more time 💜
P.s in these uncertain times I am so excited when i get a notification from your channel. Gardening is a beautiful escape away from the stresses of life. God has blessed us with so many different plants and vegetation. Considering he created a garden in the first couple of days shows us how much he loved them. He went into the garden to pray and to seek peace and calm. I just went off on a tangent. Point is in these crazy times we can lean into what God has given us and seek peace and calm as He did 💜
Very helpful! We're building our first raised bed while my husband is working from home- this definitely gives us a guide for the future garden's water system!
I'm a visual learner and it was so helpful to see how to set up a drip. I was always so confused and intimidated about setting one up. Thanks for the easy, straightforward demonstration.
Thanks Laura I really needed this. Used to help my parents w/ this when they had their Dahlia fields, but that's been ages (& they always had the supplies ready so like you I feel intimidated at the store on what I need). Now I am disabled so ever year things get a little harder (but I still love to garden!), & dragging those big heavy hose around an hour or two every night in the Summers just about does me in!😖😞 🙂👍🍅🥒🌶🥦🥕💐🌸🌹🌷🌻🌼🌱
You have inspired me. I’ve wanted to put in drip irrigation every since I found you videos. This is it. Just ordered the supplies. Thank you for keeping things normal during this crazy time. I am a RN working at a hospital in Tulsa Oklahoma and your videos give me great inspiration when I’m off work. I just started a no dig ( Ruth Stout) garden instead of the traditional garden I had previously done. I will be running irrigation in my raised beds and all my flower beds. Thank you and God bless you and your family. By the way I think your husband is awesome. The behind the scenes is a big job.
I worked on my drip irrigation systems yesterday and I must admit, you definitely need to flex your muscles to get those fitting together. Plus I needed to watch your old videos about 4 times before I felt confident enough to try it here at the house. Thanks again!
This was so incredibly helpful. Like you, I have looked at the isle of stuff and became very overwhelmed, but now, I have the confidence to do this and the part know how. I absolutely have learned so much from you both and than God I found your channel. My garden has never been more fulfilling to work in and healthy!
Over a year later your video is a great resource for information regarding irrigating raised bed vegetable gardens (which we have in our yard). We ended up having to build a deer and groundhog proof fence around our raised bed garden, and figured why not move the current underground water line from our shed to inside the fenced area for irrigating our vegetables (and a second location outside the fenced area which will be closer to my flower garden). Sharing this with my hubby who will be doing the work.
Very good explanation. We choose to also install individual shut off valves at the base of each bed so if you harvest one bed but need water to go onto the next bed, you have that capability.
Great video, I have something similar and use the drip tubing not the soaker for the same reason. I heard Laura's phone go off at 11:38 or so and without skipping a beat saw her turn it off. Just kept talking like nothing happened. I just thought it was funny, that she can keep a thought with an interruption. I'm so easily distracted!
You did a good job explaining this, and because of your instructions I now know how to it. Something that at first glance seemed so over whelming and you broke it down into simple bite size steps thank you!!
I am hoping that my hubby will watch this and maybe set up our regular garden to this system. He just doesn't like to water regularly and our veggies suffer.
Jan....it’s pretty easy! You definitely could do it yourself (barring physical disability). I’m getting close to 60 and just put in drip irrigation in a 40’ x 4’ bed and will continue until my garden and front beds are done......Central Texas summers are brutal. Try it, you won’t be sorry!
I’m very much a visual learner also and drip irrigation has always seemed overwhelming to me but i tend to be a late riser and always wind up watering later in the day then I like. Thanks for this super helpful tour.
I am a self-taught drip installer from way back. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy. I have it set up with the PVC pipe and have different stations. Your video is very timely because I've been looking at smart irrigation watering systems but I am a bit intimidated to make the switch. I can do my own drip just fine, but changing the timer...not so much!!! I love your videos and how you teach us everything!
Thank you soo much for sharing this demonstration on the raised bed irritating.. I'm a beginner farmer (Fruits & vegetable ) and we have 12 beds made out of cinder blocks.. This will hp us with the irrigation management. Thanks again
Your video is the best one. It was perfectly concise and I actually copied your system and ordered all the necessary components for my beds while stopping and starting the first system you described. Thank you very much.
I just bought a basic kit on Amazon. I’m the same where I have to watch how to do something. I’m stressed it will be difficult but I’m going to go with the flow ;) and work from there.
We just set up drip irrigation today following your video as a guideline and it worked amazingly well! Thank you so much for posting this wonderful content!
Thank you soo soo much! I bought a drip system and it was sitting there for over a year. Even though I watched their instructions video, I still feel so intimidated to start. Now I feel much better after watching your video. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing this! I've been wanting to ask if Aaron could put a compilation video up on the other channel, for those of us who may be wanting to see just how involved the process is. We have no irrigation and have been considering it now that we're getting a little older. We have more time for our gardens, but who wants to stand around and hold a hose for an hour a day. Not me, that's for sure.
Just joined. I have been wanting to for a very long while and have recommended your site to many of my friends. Thanks so much for just being authentic! I appreciate especially the drip irrigation tips and your encouragement.
this helped me so much! I was literally standing in a store like you describe about an hour ago. We just built 2 new beds for strawberries and blueberries (5x30' each) and need a drip system for them. I love how simply you explain things and your ways are so efficient and easy to understand and retain, so i feel better about what we need for them now! You also helped with my raspberries and learned most were dead and hacked them all off last week, so i'm hoping some of the live ones left over fruit this year. thanks!
So timely..I will be putting in my forever raised garden beds shortly and will be adding drip irrigation. Thank you for demystifying it for those of us who have big ideas but no how-to. You are such a blessing.
This is exactly what I needed to watch as I plan my garden beds. I only have 2. Living in Southern California, I don't have nearly the space you do, but I'll optimize what space I have. A regular watering system will be a game changer for me. Thank you for the simple visual and walk thru. Very much appreciated!
Ahh coffee with Laura and information that I can pass onto my workmates as we try to figure out the best system for our garden. Thank you for all the plain talk about how to do drip as it makes it easier for me to understand lol Hope you are all doing well and thanks for the inspiration!!
Wow! What an excellent explanation and demonstration! Thank you so much. We are in the process of building new raised beds and I am considering adding drip irrigation to those. We are in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, but summers here can be very hot. A system like this will keep us from spending long times in the sun, and will keep our watering more consistent.
Hi Laura. My first post. After reviewing several you tube videos on installing drip irrigation systems, i finally worked up a flow design. Very simple in nature but more importantly, i found the confidence to do it myself. Ordered everything i need and I'm now just waiting for the items to arrive. Appreciate your easy to watch instructions.
Drip system is my goal this year for my raised beds. You're right, it's so confusing looking at at the parts and components. Hopefully I'll get it right. 🌻🌱🌻🌱
I e been wanting to try this for a year now and will be installing this season. Your break down was very helpful, as I too am a visual person and it was overwhelming before because I didn’t understand it. Thank you so much for all your work in sharing!!🌱🪴💦
I'm finally going to install drip irrigation in my garden. What was my first step in figuring out how to do it? Search Garden Answer to see how Laura does it, of course! You are always my go-to for everything garden-related, and this video is exactly what I needed--including the links to supplies and the excellent visual explanation. Thanks to you and Aaron for EVERYTHING you do. Gardening has been my therapy during rough times--I am grateful for your amazing spirit, and for your willingness to share. Thank you!
Thank you for this video!! I gave up last year on a drip system - I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I feel so much more confident now for this next year.
Visual learner too precious Laura and you are helping us so much, I cannot understand those jealous people putting 👎 with such generous people as you.. Thanks with all my ❤️. Lyne 😘
Thank you so much, I've been scouring RU-vid for a good explanation of drip irrigation, your video is spot on what I need to get this system started. THANK YOU!!!!
We’ve been using the tubing with holes every 6” in our window boxes and containers. We run it along the backside of the window boxes and ring it in a circle in containers. It saturates the soil quickly and is very efficient 😊
This is extremely helpful and so timely, since we are setting up the garden. Our weather has been so hot that we are having to water seedlings and transplants twice daily...like in July! They’re saying we will hit 90 today here in zone 8b! 🥵 That willow tree is absolutely stunning in spring color! 😍🌳 Thank y’all so much for doing this video! 💚♥️🌿
I miss being able to spend hours in the garden🥺. Time and the world disappear and it’s so good for the soul. I hope to get a community plot this year and I will spend may hours there, when we’re able. Stay safe❤️🇨🇦👍🏻💪🏻
THANK YOU! You explain concepts so well that it finally seems doable. We started putting in drip a few weeks ago from watching your other drip videos and it’s so easy and satisfying. My plants and I thank you! What wood is best for building raised beds? That’s the next project to tackle. We are on 5 acres and I’m so excited to watch every video yo share!!
Hi Laura!! I think having a drip irrigation system is great, especially for a property of your size. I have a standard size yard and I love to water my plants with a hose, old school style. I find it extremely therapeutic. 😃😄😀😂
Laura! You helped me develop a love of plants and gardening which I find so unbelievably therapeutic during self-quarantine. I started vegetable seeds this year so I could have a nice variety and I found the first tomato this morning! I almost cried I was so happy. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge.
THANK YOU!!!!! I have existing raised beds....and I am a visual person. This was very helpful, simple and straight forward. Not sure it will happen this year, but it's on my "goals" list. Love you guys!!!!
Morning Laura and family ,thanks for this great tutorial on drop system ,will definitely make things easier when have to shop for the parts. Happy gardening🐓🐔🦋🌷
I find this video so useful and informative. I have a container garden but this knowledge will help me moving forward and also advise my parents on how to do theirs 🙂
Drip systems are great and there are so many different options to work with, like different types of strips and sprayers. I was very intimidated when I first started but realize real quickly it was very easy to put together one thing Lauryn didn't mention is there is a limit to how long of a run you can have and how many sprayers and drivers you can have on each run. It's all based on how good your pressure is in your water system. One way I find to help if you have low pressure is instead of just running a long length that just ends by itself, loop it back onto itself so your system makes a closed circle. Connect the end peace to the beginning if that makes sense, it'll help with even distribution. It is hard to find drip by me, not enough people use it so I have to order it online. Have fun with it.
Thank you. Very helpful. I started my drip system last year. I have to make some adjustments this year but now I am much more confident about doing it.
WOW, I needed this!! I am in the process of building a new house and just got my raised beds built. Drip system has always intimated me but not now. Thanks Laura!!
Best tip for hands that aren't as strong as they use to be. I boil some water and put it in my thermos car mug then just dip the ends right before you put them on your splice or emitters. So much easier getting them on!!! Try it! No more struggle. 😁
Thank you Laura and Aaron. Your videos inspired me to put in my drip system. Last summer here in central Texas was BRUTAL. I just finished the drip system in a back 40‘ x 5‘ flower bed and I’m about to work on my veggie garden, then The front garden beds. All due to you Laura!💥💥 And hey, congrats on 724k subscribers!! 💥💥
such great information!! i usually let hubby do our sprinkler system but since watching you, i suddenly have "input", HAHAHA.. i have to be careful not to step too far into his territory (because hey, i don't want to lose my help!) but it's funny to see his expression when i have an opinion on it now... it's such good info to know tho, because i can communicate to him what i think we should have in various areas (even if he doesn't always agree, lol)... i just feel so much smarter! lol... totally off the subject: WHITE FENCE IN THE BACKGROUND!! looking so good over there!! so excited to see that area develop.. and speaking of watering systems, there's some work over there to be done, lol...
I agree...the ones I have planted (42) are the same size they were when we put them in...only because the deer ravish them in the winter and I loose a years worth of growth. And yes it was my fault again this winter for not taking care of the problem correctly. All the product on the market don't work for these deer here in Iowa. It will be electric fencing or burlap next year 2020-2021.
I just stood in front of all those boxes of parts a week or so ago. I left going ...ugh I better watch a few videos first. Thanks for the info, it’s very helpful!
Thank you for this video! I love learning about projects like this from you, you really do make it easy to understand and not intimidating at all! You are a gem. Can't wait to tackle a drip project when I have my own garden one day. Thank you!
Laura, thanks for your work. May I offer a correction? The three quarter threads on a faucet are hose threads which are different from standard pipe threat. If you try to connect the two it will probably leak. It takes an adapter to go from pipe threat to hose thread.
Im trying to find informative content about irrigation for my flower beds , i too have been very intimidated trying to figure out how..thank you for this great video !
Hi Laura! I just wanted to add that you can also add drip irrigation ball valves to each bed. So if you have a main faucet system (such as your first example) you can in fact turn it into your second example (faucet in each bed) and shut water off to certain beds while the other can continue to be use. Just another option :)
I’m going to ask you because you seem to know what to do....my veggie bed is about 30-40 ft away from the spigot. Should I attach 1/2 inch poly tubing to the spigot or run a hose to the veggie garden and attach the hose to the 1/2 inch poly? I’m worried I won’t have enough pressure if I have such a long stretch of poly.
Hi Laura. Can you please show how your Colette climbing roses that you’ve planted few seasons ago are doing? I’m planning to plant few of them this year. Thank you for all inspirations every day!
Good explanation! I, too, had to figure out irrigation for myself years ago when it wasn’t popular on the east coast and supplies were limited; it can be confusing. There are shutoff valves that can be added to the mainline tubing at each bed to turn off water when not needed for that bed. Thanks for the great video!
Great, I need to do this and you just made it so much easier for me. Like you I stand before the displays wondering what in the world I should use and I would've gone with the soaker ones if you hadn't shared your experience. Thank you!
Hi Laura! This is a great video! We have 2 raised beds and have ben using soaker hoses. What I don't like about them is the sprays of water everywhere, even when I put mulch on top. I think I may try the drip lines this year, if I can get out..... Thank you so much for this video! It is very helpful!
