I have a 1996 Ford F-150 4.9L S6 (great motors) work truck with dual fuel tanks. When I bought it the truck ran perfect on the rear tank. The front tank ran rough, stalled at lights, loss power when accelerating. I dealt with it for months. The Fuel from the rear tank started to flow to the front tank. It even moved overnight from rear to front tank for a couple weeks. One morning fuel was dripping from the front tank inlet tube. Not good and very dangerous. The fuel pump had finally gave up the ghost and the check valve was failing in it. I changed the fuel filter and replaced the OEM fuel pump module in the front tank with an Airtex 2059 bought at NAPA. We followed the instructions and the truck fired up on the first try on the front tank the very first time since I owned it. Replacing the fuel pump with an Airtex fuel pump has returned my valued F-150 work truck to new running condition. Do NOT believe the bad hype about Airtex, these fuel pumps are top notch. Thank you Airtex for providing a reasonable priced OEM quality pump, I promise you all, us working guys truly appreciate it!

@thecrittergitter7576
@thecrittergitter7576 2 года назад
@@onebodyelazar1870 they recommend that you clean the tank out. To ensure that the new pump doesn't pull any contaminants from the tank. When I was in the military fuel in the fuel tanks if they had gotten water in them condensation or foreign matter it would cause a biological growth of a gel looks like a blob and it would not allow the pumps to pull the fuel into the engines. So again clean the tank.

Had to replace a fuel pump on a 99 gmc z71 once. I just took the bed off. It was so much easier and faster than dropping the tank. I have to replace the pump on my 95 f350 soon so I’ll definitely be taking the bed off again.

@thecrittergitter7576
@thecrittergitter7576 2 года назад
If you have dual tanks remember you may have to disconnect the rear tank fill hose. Electrical connectors for the tail lights. I guess just be mindful of anything that attaches to the bed from the frame. They are also suggesting to clean the tank. Some tanks may have contamination from condensation, funky stuff growing in the fuel. When I was in the military airplanes Jets had to be inspected for fuel contaminants. When you get water in fuel it becomes a gelatinous blob inside the tank that in itself can get pulled into the pump assembly and cause it to fail. That is why they recommend taking the tank down and cleaning it to ensure that there's no contaminants in the tank. By not doing this you can void the warranty on the part that you are replacing.

Hello Sir, I have a question. I have a 1996 F250 5.8. It only has 116k miles on it and the engine sounded really good until a few weeks ago when I put about 2 year old gas in it. I KNOW THAT WAS STUPID. it was about 10 gallons. The very next day, it was rough starting up but it ran fine once it started, however, the next day, the truck was shaking, started sounding like it was misfiring, and whatever. I didnt siphon out the bad gas, instead I out fresh gas in. The fixes I have done on it thus far are: fuel filter, cleaned injectors, spark plugs and wires, new distributor cap and rotor. and it still isnt running right. I took it to a DIY mechanic who has been a mechanic for probably 50 years and he said it sounds like the lifters. What do you make of it?
@AirtexFuelPumps
@AirtexFuelPumps 6 лет назад
My first move would be to completely drain the tank; empty, not a drop left, then fill with fresh fuel. Once know good fuel is in place I would try cleaning the injectors and replace the plugs again. Once those plugs are fouled they will never fire correctly. It may sound like lifters as the engine detonates and rattles and pings due to the mis-fire created by the old gas.
@mnight207
@mnight207 6 лет назад
Ill do that. I appreciate the info. Also, the spark plug threads on the driver side have oil on the threads, not on the ceramic. Any thoughts?

It could be from a valve cover leaking. Clean everything off and check it periodically and see if you can trace the leak that way.

I do not have access to a pressure tester at the moment, but do you think it could possibly be my pump? I rolled into a parking lot,waited for a awhile and it started up again-no issues.So I proceeded on my trip,for about 25 miles and it cut out again-nothing no sputter,no jerking,just cut out and this time it would not restart.Now it will not restart or fire at all.Have lights,and everything else??? any thoughts?tried both tanks also.same on both.

Okay. So I've had some issues starting my 1996 Ford F250. It cranks forever and eventually starts, but the start is rough and then smooths out, and also it sometimes dies before it fully starts. I watched a another video to test the fuel pump. You turn the key to the on position and wait ten seconds, switch off for ten seconds and repeat three times. My truck starts right up, so I believe its the fuel pump. Okay so a few questions: 1. How heavy is the tank when empty? I dont have a shop or many tools, so would I be able to comfortably ease it on down, 2. Must the truck be lifted up or can this be done on four wheels?
@leewisinski2165
@leewisinski2165 6 лет назад
Is it a diesel? Sounds more like suspect glow plugs to me. If you're not cranking, the fuel pumps aren't pumping anything. I had the same symptoms in my '87 with 6.9l diesel. Turned out to be a lose hose from the fuel filter. It could be air in your fuel lines somewhere, but again, you would presumably need to turn it over for a bit to purge the air from the system and get a clean start.
@thecrittergitter7576

I have the same issue, same symptoms and it has been ongoing for over a 2 yrs. Usually worse when the weather gets warmer (summer). Mine is gasoline engine, I am suspecting the fuel pump as well. The fuel tank selection switch shows the amount of fuel in the tank. I plan on replacing both pumps.

Is a 1993 f150 fuel pump compatible with a 1994 f350?
@AirtexFuelPumps
@AirtexFuelPumps 6 лет назад
Yes and no. There are two different fuel pumps and tank setups for the gas engines in 1993 and 1994; center tank or 19 gallon rear plastic tank takes one pump. 18 gallon rear steel tank takes another pump. Each tank setup uses a different pump. Diesel is another configuration all together.
@massaileon4699
@massaileon4699 6 лет назад
Airtex-ASC Performance Pumps I figured it was a different setup, I gotta replace the front tank fuel pump on my f350, its a 7.5 gas and wanted to know if I could save a buck and take one of the pumps off the f150, its a 5.0, dont know if that would narrow it down or not.

Every vehicle ever built that has a fuel gauge sender in it has electrical wires inside the tank. Modern vehicles have an electric pump inside as well. The fuel pump module may have a pump, sender, pressure valves, all kinds of good stuff. No, it isn't an issue as long as it is all properly installed.
