How to Install Games to USB on a Jailbroken PS4 | Extended Storage on 5.05

Utilizing Extended Storage on firmware 5.05 is now possible! Prior to this if you attempted to install any FPKG or copy any to a USB drive using the PS4 itself it would result in an error. This is where App2USB was helpful, however with this there is now no longer a need to utilize App2USB. Not only is this utilizing a native feature of the PS4's firmware, but this also avoids the need to do a double install so to speak. App2USB requires you to install the game to internal storage, then run the payload to move the install applications to your external drive. This works just like any normal PS4 by allowing you to hook up your drive, initialize it for your PS4, set it as the default install destination, and let you install or move applications to it all within the console's menus. The major requirement here aside from drive limitations and having a Jailbroken PS4 is making sure you use at least HEN 1.7! Any HEN release from xvortex lower than 1.7 does NOT have this functionality. In addition to that, be warned that this will completely format the drive you use for exclusive use with PS4 consoles. This is not a variant of FAT32 or exFAT, so you cannot transfer files to and from this drive anymore by hooking it up to a PC. Keep this in mind and make sure the drive you use is one you only want to use on your PS4!
If your PlayStation 4 is on any firmware higher than 5.05, you cannot utilize this tutorial. Downgrading a console is not possible either, so you must wait for an updated exploit to come out or purchase a second console on a low enough firmware. "How to add games if Windows no longer recognizes my hard drive?" Nobody seems to be answering this question. Correct, your PC will no longer recognize your hard drive. What you must do is 1 of 2 things. You can either use another hard drive/thumb drive to load games on then put it in your PS4 and install them like normal. Or, you can use remote fpkg installation. (Google it.) Which is essentially installing fpkg files over network.

Say I was going to upgrade to a Ps4 Pro from an Og Ps4, do you know if I'd be able to move the extended storage over without reformatting? Wasn't sure if it would work as you need PSN access normally but I'm guessing with HEN active it shouldn't matter? Thanks if you can help.

A question, as you said one cannot use the external hdd for copying or installing once the ps4 formats the hdd to it's native format & will be only compatible with the ps4. But we can format the external hdd with pc if we no longer want to use it with ps4 and wan to use as normal external hdd for copying stuff and installing fpkg's on ps4?

Fast forward a year. I have 5.05. However Hen has been updated past 1.7. Now with any of my 3.0 ext hdd over 250g. Plug em in and ps4 pops a notification saying must update to be able to use as extended storage. I wondered if hen 1.8 or higher doesn't have this but that makes no sense to get rid of this in an update. I see videos where they just plug up their hdd, format it, then run hen, then go to installer. I can't get the 1st part done as it keeps saying update. I like app2usb but here is the reason I don't wanna use app2usb anymore. Ps4 a week ago bugged out and reset. Had to reinstall 5.05 firmware and factory reset. I figured the ps4 exploit, or any of the exploits especially app2usb would find all the games on my ext hdd. It does not! I had to take all pkgs out and reinstall to ps4 hdd, then app2usb again, to backup to ext hdd...again. so annoying and tedious. I figured since app2usb put all those on there that it could find them and use them. It's taking me 7 days to get back to where I was before the reset. I am now revisiting why can't I use my 2tb like this video!? An update. Also I am pretty tech savvy and always have figured all this out by myself with trial and error. I notice many people that know how to do more then me never ever answer any questions. A few popular people on y.t. has videos but not enough info so all comments are questions..which never get answered. I never see anyone ever helping or answering questions.

when you install a game to your external drive it still install some part of the game into internal drive....which is terrible. it doesnt matter if you use app2usb or this method. it ALWAYS loads some part into internal hdd. sometimes its 50mb, and sometimes 6gb. It depends. It might not sound like a big deal but when you have like 500 games its a big problem. Now I have 5tb free space on my external drive but I cant install them because my 500gb internal system storage is filled with these little spaces. (i installed so many games so far) I checked this video and it happened here too.... before you install these 4 games it said you only used 100mb of your storage. but after installing these games to your EXTERNAL drive, magically your internal usage went up to 1.1gb... this is so annoying. wish there was a way to prevent this. guess i need a 2tb internal drive just for this.

you have to do this even if they're installed internally. you have to jailbreak the ps4 every time you turn it on, there's no cfw that can help you bypass this limitation yet.

I believe you can! You can only have one PS4 formatted external drive hooked up at a time, but I've seen people use both.

I tried to install the Test Pkg a few minutes ago and I keep getting an Error, what am I doing wrong?Clicked HEN/Mira was a success, went to DEBUG Settings, clicked on Game installer, clicked the Test PKG, it started to Download then it stopped and came back with an error.

Common Problems: 1. Wrong USB port (use closest to bluray drive) 2. Files not on USB (put files on usb) 3. Files are corrupted (check w/ md5) 4. Not on HFW (install hfw) 5. Formatted w/ GPT instead of MBR (format mbr) 6. Formatted NTFS instead of FAT32 (format fat32 MBR, you can also try FAT16 MBR) 7. Files on USB are for wrong HAN (use proper files) 8. User has not set page as homepage, causing memory issues (due to other page loads) 9. User has not retried enough times (i've seen reports that it took them a few attempts initially) 10. User is using older version of ps3xploit 11. USB Drive not compatible (does it show up in photos?) 12. Broken hardware component (fix hardware) 13. User did not try FAT16 when FAT32 did not work 14. User error not listed Though not in order, these are the most common issues people have w/ at least breadcrumbs to a solution. If it's not listed in the first 13, it's a bug or 14. :)

Thanks. So first install the pkg to the ps4 from another usb storage and then move the pkg from the ps4 to the extended storage i assume? So it's actually the same as before when using app2usb. Why is this better than installing a fpgk from an exfat usb drive to the ps4 and then moving the fpkg back to the exfat drive in order to play the game from the exfat drive? It's more or less the same. The only difference i see is that in this case the drive cannot be recognized anymore by Windows or any other system when hooking it by usb. So this the older way with app2usb is better... i think?

Yes. Thank you. I have not thought about that. Stupid me. All i was doing was thinking that the new extended storage was just another USB drive. But it is not USB anymore, it is Extended storage hooked by USB. The ps4 is treating it as internal storage. I should have paid attention when MrMario said to push the PS button in order to switch back from Extended- to Internal storage and vice versa. Thanks BOS5 for waking me up. This way is indeed much better than with App2Usb.

You can only use it on PS4 until you format it to another filesystem, which will wipe all the PS4 data on it.

I was confused about that too. This new way with the Extended storage is different compared to the other way with App2Usb. This new way the extended storage is treated by the ps4 as internal storage. So all you need to do is copy a pkg or pkgs from PC to a USB drive, unplug the USB drive from PC and hook it up to the ps4, and the install them as you have seen on MrMarios video. They will install automatically to your extended storage.

SkootDiggity so u mean i should have few packages on my 2nd drive and install them and copy other games from pc to the 2nd drive and install again and by putting few pkg u said, how many packages u had per installation? 3, 4 or more? ? can i do " install all " for 4-5 games at a time? and u formmated ur 2nd drive from where u installed pkgs or the 1st external drive where the games are meant to be installed?
